Time spent at the villa was extremely boring.

“I want to go out.”

“Go out? I’ll help you find a tour guide”

Samantha nodded. After a while, a pretty young female student showed up. She greeted Samantha enthusiastically, looking very naive

The student made a few calls. She then took Samantha out of the villa to have a

wander.

After they’d walked around, they arrived at the roadside. There was a small car

parked before them.

“Please get in, Ms. Meadows.”

The female trainee invited her in.

Samantha pulled open the car door, holding the notebook she was taking her notes

Kendrick rubbed his forehead.

Samantha wriggled into the car and opened her notebook. She read the notes she

had made about the stories and other bits of information

The trainee blushed when she saw Kendrick Although she was seated in the passenger seat, she was being more enthusiastic to the person in the back.

Both Samantha and Kendrick were unexpectedly quiet.

The student felt rather awkward. Kendrick only spoke when they got out of the car.

“You can go back”

The female student stared at him uncomprehendingly until she finally realized that

Kendrick was talking to her. She was shocked. She only returned to the car when

she saw Kendrick take the first step up the stairs.

Samantha patted the female trainee on the shoulder, then turned and followed

Kendrick up the steps.

The hike up the mountain from where they were wasn’t on a muddy track. There

was a staircase that advanced deep into the forest. There were also platforms. They

were both special attractions unique to the place.

It was very quiet, and it was even quieter up on the mountain.

As she listened to the birds chirping, Samantha calmly took out her camera and

began snapping photos everywhere she went.

“Why did you want to adopt a child?” Kendrick finally spoke impassively after they

had walked for some time.

Samantha paused in the act of raising her camera. A look of reminiscence came

over her features.

“Because I’m an orphan too.”

Kendrick concluded that it was because she had been left by her parents for so long,

and that she was fond of the child.

Kendrick could feel Samantha’s sadness, even if he remained facing forward.

As they walked on the mountain path, Samantha maintained a distance from

Kendrick. They were still walking one behind the other even when they finally

descended the mountain.

In the few hours that they’d spent, they’d only said two sentences to each other.

They got into the car. The female student had already vanished from sight. Chandler

was now sitting in the passenger seat. His gaze drifted over the two of them.

“Mr. Ford, I heard that you’re departing today?”

Kendrick nodded slightly, then closed his eyes to rest.

Samantha looked calmly at the photos in her camera.

When they returned to the villa, Jude began reporting the progress of the work on the exhibition. Kendrick considered things for a while, and then decided to return to

the office.

Chandier immediately commanded the staff to pack up their luggage.

With the excuse of returning to her room to look for her charger, Samantha took a

call from Conrad instead.

“There’ll be a ball tomorrow night.”

Conrad’s voice was neither high nor low. He sounded as if he

was smiling.

He continued, “Kendrick will probably take you. You know what to do.”

“I can’t ruin my own reputation at a ball.”

Samantha frowned deeply.

The elite people there may not say anything to her face. Still, she refused to be so transparent in front of Kendrick.

“Didn’t you build this reputation so that you could get your revenge on Kendrick?”

Conrad refuted her.

“If you want to force Kendrick to lose it all, then I hope that you can keep up with me.

Samantha’s attitude toughened. Conrad was not her first choice as a partner to

collaborate with. So, it would be better if he was wholeheartedly willing to be her

pawn.

“If you don’t mind, Mr. Hayes, you can keep up with me.”

Samantha softened her toné a little.
