Alpha Leo's POV

As I made my way to them, I held her gaze and saw her roll her eyes and look away. She looked different and lively today, and it's all thanks to my mother's hospitality. "You are here?" I asked Mother and saw her nod.

"Why didn't you ask me to bring you? I was expecting you tomorrow." I spoke in a calm tone so that she wouldn't notice the uneasiness in my voice. She was supposed to arrive tomorrow and meet Vera at the mansion, but her surprise arrival made me uncomfortable.

"Yes, I decided to surprise you." She said while getting on her feet. "I didn't know we've gotten a new library keeper." She spoke while flashing a big smile at Nora, which turned my stomach. This was Mother, always open to making new friends. "I believe you've already met her," I spoke with a frown while eyeing Nora, who didn't look my way. I could tell she was uncomfortable with my presence.

"Where is your mate? I thought she would be living here already?" Mother asked,

"She wanted us to get married before moving here," I responded quickly, so she wouldn't get suspicious.

"Oh, I think I like her already. She has principles." Mom praised while I held the gaze of Nora and saw the hurt in her eyes. I knew she wished she could tell everyone that we were mates, but she was also scared of rejection. She knew if she did that, then I'll definitely reject her and such pain would destroy her wolf.

"Let's talk better in my room, Mom," I said and got a nod from Mother.

Without looking her way, I made my way out of the room while I heard Mom behind me, telling her she would be back.

"What you are doing, I'm totally against it."my wolf warned, but I totally ignored and made a mind link. "Vera?" I called through mind link and quickly got a response.

"Yes, alpha."

"You have to be in the mansion, be sure you've marked yourself before coming."

"Your mother is here?" she spoke excitedly; not even a hint of nervousness could be heard in her voice.

"It seems you are not nervous." I asked and got a soft scoff from her, "Not at all Alpha, I'm a born actress, Watch me go into play."" she responded while I shook my head even though she couldn't see me.

"I'll see you in two hours. And dress properly". With those words, I ended the mind link and sat on the couch opposite Mom.

"I believe you are happy that you will no longer marry Lady Annabelle," Mom spoke while I scoffed before responding. "I will never marry her, and I pity the man who would end up as her partner," I said and saw Mom roll her eyes. "She is not that bad." Mom tried defending her, but I knew she knew what I meant.

"So when am I meeting your mate?" Mother asked, "In the next two hours." I responded.

"Then we have to get ready." Mom said, getting me confused, "Don't tell me you've forgotten that every soon-to-be Luna is to be welcomed into the mansion traditionally?" She asked while I nodded and went into deep thought. I had totally forgotten.
