Chapter 27

"When will I be given what I was promised?" I watched as Alma, the woman Rafael was going to make his Luna, stepped into the clearing. She was angry, shaking her finger in front of the rogue's face. "You were merely a pawn." He said to her as he reached out and snapped her neck. I gasped in horror as I watched her body hit the ground. Geneviève stepped up to the slab I was laid out on. "Are you comfortable?" She chuckled darkly. I said nothing, I refused to even look at her. She tilted her face up. I followed her line of vision, focusing on the full moon at the highest point in the sky.

"It's time." She told the rogue, he nodded his head in response. Geneviève pulled out a long, hooked blade. It was pure white, like it was carved from ivory. The hilt was silver with intricate carvings all over it. She brought the pointed tip to the hollow of my throat and drug the blade all the way to my navel. I felt no pain, surprisingly. I peeked down to see that she hadn't actually cut my skin. It was like a glowing cocoon that wrapped around my body. She was repeating the process over and over. Cutting away the layers of my cocoon. With each stroke of her blade I felt more nauseous and light headed.

"Dark Wood wolves are here!" I heard someone scream in the distance. My heart hammered in my chest, my Diego, he's coming for me. Geneviève's face twisted into a scowl as she slashed deeper and faster. I heard snarls and howls. Wolves were fighting against each other. A set of howls rang out through the night, sending a shiver up my spine. My mates.

DIEGO POV

I was vibrating with adrenaline as we burst through the clearing. The witches quickly hopped off of our backs and jumped into action. A blind rage fueled me as I watched the witch that was Marjorie's mother s***h into Lili's chest. Rafael and I howled in unison right before we attacked the first wolves we saw. I was snapping necks, slashing throats left and right. A giant wolf stepped into my line of vision. The other wolves cowered in his presence. This must be him, the deranged wolf that wants his mate back. Before I could form thoughts he was jumping on me. I rolled underneath him, dodging his attack and slamming my head into his gut. I felt the ground vibrate and looked out to see Rafael using his powers. I felt pride bubble in my chest at the image of my mate fighting for us. In that split second the rogue was on me. His teeth latched into my shoulder causing a howl to tear from my throat. I shook my body and slammed us backwards onto the ground. Thankfully I broke the hold he had on my shoulder, but the cut was damaging, causing me to limp. I could hardly put any pressure on my arm. I knew I could fight much longer so I let my body be consumed by my flames and created a wind tunnel around myself. MARJORIE POV

"Mother!" I screamed over the chaos as I jumped off of Rafael's wolf. She didn't even raise her head, too absorbed in her incantations. I watched in horror as she started to cut away at Lili's aura. She was peeling away the layers to get to her soul. I jumped across the slab Lili was chained to and tackled my mother to the ground. Her screams pierced my ears.

"You incompetent child!" She snarled at me. She kicked and scratched at me like a child.

"Mother stop!" I screamed as she kicked me off of her. Edith threw down a potion that exploded in my mothers face. She let out a shriek as she clawed at the air.

"You two are fools! We could all live forever, together!" My mother said, trying to convince us.

"It's not natural, we are meant to die." I told her and caused her rage to spike. Whatever Edith used quickly wore off. My mother lunged at Edith, the blade of ivory was clutched in her hand. She raised it above her head intending to s***h Edith.

"No!" I screamed as I slammed into my mothers side. The blade struck Edith's face, leaving a cut along her cheek. My mother and I wrestled along the forest floor. Fighting to get hold of the blade. In my peripheral vision I saw a wolf charge at us. Edith quickly jumped into action, throwing potions and slicing the beast with her silver blade. I was mesmerized by her beauty and elegance as she fought for us. I didn't notice my mothers hand slip from the hold I had on it. The hooked blade slipping under my ribs and diving straight into my heart.

"MARJORIE!" Edith's heart broken scream pierced the air.

EDITH POV

I saw red as Geneviève's blade pierced into Marjorie's chest. I felt rage and grief roll off of my body in waves. Geneviève flung Marjorie's body off of herself. She stood and walked back towards the slab.

"Geneviève!" I screamed her name, she didn't even flinch at the rage in my voice. I charged at her, but she was expecting me. When I came within arms reach she turned, swinging the blade in my direction. I ducked down and threw another hallucination potion at her face. She was temporarily blinded, flailing her arms around. I jumped at the opportunity to yank the blade from her grasp.

"I hope you rot in hell." I snarled as I drove the blade in her just as she did to my Marjorie. I forced the blade up harder and deeper. I watched as blood poured from her sputtering mouth. Her eyes rolled back as she fell to the forest floor. I turned and ran back to where Marjorie laid limp on the floor.

"Marjorie." I sobbed as I pulled her body into my lap.

"Come on baby, come back to me." I cupped her beautiful face, shaking her gently. I watched as she coughed and hacked on the blood that filled her lungs.

"Edith." She gasped my name, her eyes searching for mine.

"I'm here, I'm here." A smile spread across her face, the look of her bloody teeth twisted my gut.

"I love you, pet." She sighed, her eyes slowly closed.

"No, baby, you gotta keep your eyes open, okay?" I gently shook her, causing her glassy eyes to pop open again.

"It's my time, Edith-"

"No, don't say that! We're going to go away, remember? We're going to get a little house by the beach somewhere, just you and me, baby." I cut her off, my words coming out in broken sobs.

"Edith, listen to me, the Goddess has spoken to me." I bit back my words, trying to let her finish.

"This won't be the last time we see each other." The warmth in her smile sent a pain deep in my soul.

"I don't give a bloody f**k what she says, you're not leaving me, not when I just got you back." She let out a choked chuckle.

"I'm going to miss that mouth of yours." My vision blurred as I clutched her closer.

"You're not going to miss anything because you're not leaving me!" I sobbed as her breath grew more ragged.

"We will see each other again, pet." She let out a long breath, her head fell limp against me.

"No! Marjorie! Wake up!" I sobbed as I rocked her back and forth.

LILIANA POV

I cried as I watched Edith hold Marjorie's body. Gwen, the shy redhead, quickly ran to me and helped me out of my chains.

"Hurry, we have to run." She shouted over the chaos. I looked around and watched as wolves tore each other apart. My eyes immediately seek out my mates. Diego was locked in battle with the deranged rogue. Rafael fought off two wolves at the same time. I felt my wolf rise to the surface, the urge to protect my mates vibrating in my chest. The rogue that Diego was fighting shifted back into his human form.

"My fight isn't with you, it's with him." He declared, pointing at Rafael. Rafael's wolf stalked towards him after he'd finished off the other wolves.

"Your pack members killed my mate!" The rogue snarled.

"You attacked my pack!" Rafael snapped back after he shifted into his human form.

"We attacked your pack because your father ambushed us. He didn't want rogues near his pack so in the middle of the night he came to slaughter us." Rafael's body froze at the words, horror flashed across his face. "You're lying." Rafael snarled.

"If I can't have my mate, you can't have yours." The rogue said with an evil smirk. Diego and Rafael both growled at his words. The rogue looked over to me and nodded his head. I stared at him in confusion until I felt it. "I'm so sorry." Gwen whispered. I looked down to see a silver blade stabbed straight through my chest. I heard both my mates scream my name, the world I once knew turned black and I hit the forest floor.
