One More Chance
Chapter 136: Is she your girlfriend?

~~~You sheltered me from harm, kept me warm, kept me warm. You gave my life to me, set me free, set me free. The finest years I ever knew were all the years I had with you. And I would give anything I own, I'd give my life, my heart, my home. I would give everything I own, just to have you back again... just to touch you once again~~~
LUKE's POV:
I was currently reading the reports that my team submitted to me when I noticed my two employees whispering something in their seats.
"Eherm!" I cleared my throat which made everyone look at me. "Is there anything else you want to share in this meeting, Salonga, Montes?" I asked in a deep, serious voice and put down the papers I was reading. "Huh?"
"Sir?" They uttered at the same time, surprise was evident in their expression.
"I am asking you if there is anything else that you want to share in this discussion?"
"I-I'm sorry, Sir." Montes apologized with his head down.
"Sorry? Why are you saying sorry?" I asked seriously.
"Because we're interrupting the meeting with our silly conversation."
"Silly conversation? What is it? Why don't you share it with us?"
They shared glances before looking at the counter. I followed their gazes only to find that they were looking at Sam who cheerfully talking to one of their staff at the counter.
"Salonga keeps bothering me about the woman at the counter."
I raised an eyebrow when Salonga nudged Montes' elbow, motioning him to keep quiet.
"So you were saying he's bothering you about that woman? What did he tell you about her?"
"He wanted to know her name and he also wanted us to take a picture with her."
"And why would he want to know her name?"
But this time, it was Salonga who answered my not-so-silly question.
"Because she's beautiful, Mr. Williams, even the way she speaks. She's like an angel and lucky is the one who will have her heart."
I held my breath for a few seconds after hearing what he said and glanced at the smiling face of my ex-wife. It has been a long time since I realized that I would have been that 'lucky guy' if I hadn't just been a fool then. "Oh, my God!" Sam suddenly screamed and giggled.
"Yeah, indeed." I unconsciously muttered which caused the 14 employees to look at me.
"Sir?" Mia, the head of the marketing department called my attention. "You were saying something?"
"Oh, I mean, yeah, she's indeed beautiful, but please focus on the meeting. I want you all to listen and list down the important things I will discuss with you and one more thing..." I paused, looking at them one by one. "I don't want to repeat myself! Do you understand?" "Yes, Sir." They replied in unison.
"Good, now, let's continue. Mia, what was the last topic we were discussing earlier?"
"It's about the company's marketing strategy, Sir."
"Okay, let's continue the discussion and I want you all to focus."
But as soon as those words came out of my mouth, my eyes automatically flew in Sam's direction who was now laughing at the long-haired guy in front of the counter. I really tried to hear their conversation but since Mia was just sitting to my left and her voice was too loud for my ears, I couldn't even hear nor understand what Sam and that guy were talking about.
I gripped the pen so hard under the table that he suddenly took her hand and said something that made her giggle. It's as if he were pretending to be a tarot reader.
"Guys, continue your discussion, I'll just ask for another cup of coffee," I said getting their attention but was surprised when Salonga stood up before me.
"Let me get you another cup of coffee, Mr. Williams." He offered himself, his eyes lit up with excitement.
I stared at him for a few seconds and turned down his offer with a smile.
"No, thanks, Salonga, but I can do it myself, besides, didn't I say you must focus on the meeting?" I told him, raising an eyebrow. In my head... -'I'm not yet insane to give you a chance to get close to her and flirt with her!'- "Yes, Sir." He nodded and returned to his seat while scratching the back of his neck.
I took the now empty mug and headed towards the counter.
SAM's POV:
"Did you really do it?" I asked Martin wide-eyed as I couldn't believe he once pretended to be a tarot reader to get the attention of the woman he liked in the past.
"Yeah, I know that was a stupid trick and I have already apologized to her." He replied, still grinning.
"So what did she say when she found out the truth that you were lying?"
"Well, what do you expect? She got so mad at me that when I went to see her the last time, she untied her dog and let that black Aspin chase me until I almost lost my breath!"
"Oh, my gosh! I can't imagine you being chased by a dog." And we continued to laugh, oblivious of the stares we were getting from the man who was now walking his way towards us. "Yeah, that's hilarious, right?"
"Yes---" but someone interrupted me before I could even react to Martin's question.
"Excuse me,"
We both turned at Luke who was wearing a serious expression while staring at Martin intently.
"Can I have a refill?" He asked, but his eyes were not leaving Martin's face.
"Of course, Sir!" I intentionally made my voice louder to get his attention, but I suddenly held my breath when he looked at me. I took the mug from his hand. "Martin, please wait a second." I smiled at the guy who was just the same height as my ex-husband and turned around to prepare another cup of coffee.
"Oh, sure, sweetheart." He smiled at me, but to my surprise, Luke snapped at him.
"Did you just call her 'your sweetheart?" I heard him ask Martin while I was preparing his coffee.
"Yes, what's wrong with that?" Martin asked him back, confused.
"What's wrong with that---seriously?" Luke's voice held dominance and irritation.
-What the hell is going on with him?'- I asked silently as I make his coffee as quickly as possible because I don't want them to catch the attention of other customers.
"Yeah, what's wrong with calling her sweetheart? Do you have any problem with it? Is she your girlfriend?" Martin stood up and Luke sneered.
-'Oh, good Lord!'-
"That's the same question I wanted to ask you! Is she your girlfriend for you to call her 'sweetheart?"
"No---"
"Hey, guys! What the hell is going on here?" I asked raising an eyebrow at my ex-husband who was still glaring at Martin. "Mr. Williams, here is your coffee, Sir," I emphasized the last word and that was just the time he turned to me with an incredulous look in his eyes. "Sir?" He repeated.
"Yes! Sir." I nodded, repeating the same word he uttered. "Here is the refill of your coffee, Sir."
"Huh!" And he sneered at me before accepting the mug. "Thanks," he mentioned the word without looking at me and he turned around immediately.
I scrunched my forehead as I watched him back to their table.
-What the hell---' but my thoughts were suspended in the air when Martin spoke in front of me.
"Tss! Such a dude! A pain in the ass!"
I just gave him an awkward smile.
"Do you know him?"
"Huh?"
"That guy, do you know him?"
"Uhm... yeah, he's Caleb and Dana's friend." I decided not to mention that Luke is my ex-husband because I believe he doesn't have to know about it.
"I see," he snorted. "I don't know what got into him nor his problem as he reacted that way when I called you sweetheart. Duh! It was just an endearment, what's wrong with that? He seemed like a jealous freak!"
I just bit my bottom lip as I also didn't have an idea why Luke reacted that way. He couldn't be jealous because that's too impossible. Ohh... could he be? But why?
"Anyway, what is he doing here and who are those people with him?" He pointed to Luke's table and his employees.
"Uhm... they are in a business meeting and those are his employees."
"A business meeting?" He asked, his voice was a bit louder.
"Yeah, an outdoor meeting." I shrugged.
