One More Chance -
Chapter 145: Do you still love him?
~~~Just smile for me and let the day begin. You are the sunshine that lights my heart within. And I'm sure that you're an angel in disguise. Come take my hand and together we will rise. You look at me and I begin to melt just like the snow when a ray of sun is felt. I'm crazy 'bout you baby, can't you see? I'd be so delighted if you would come with me~~~
-Kyla Alvarez-
"... Yes, you belong to me and I'm yours exclusively. Right now we live and breathe each other. Inseparable it seems, we're flowing like a stream, running free, traveling on the wings of love..."
A smile formed on my lips when I saw how happy Dana was as she danced with her now husband, Caleb. Indeed, the two are a great pair. We are now at their wedding reception and a beautiful love song was playing around the venue.
I looked around with a smile on my lips and couldn't help but sigh. It has been ten years since I experienced getting married, it's just that it wasn't like this... it was far from this because instead of happiness, smiles of uncertainty were on my lips at that time. I wanted to enjoy and celebrate my wedding because who wouldn't be--- it's my wedding! But I couldn't because I knew that the man I married didn't feel the same for me.
I took a deep breath, closing my eyes for a few seconds to prevent the tears from falling. Tears that I don't understand where they came from.
"...On the wings of love up and above the clouds the only way to fly is on the wings of love. On the wings of love only the two of us together flying high, flying high up on the wings of love..."
"Eherm!"
I gasped slightly when Dana suddenly came in front of me and called my attention. I didn't notice her walking in my direction as I stayed in close eyes while humming the lyrics of the song.
"Hmm... what are you thinking?" She asked smiling as she took the vacant seat next to me. "Are you upset because you didn't see your husband in the church earlier and even here at the reception?" "Tss! Why should I be upset? And for once, Dana, he's no longer my husband, okay?" But she just chuckled at me.
Rolling my eyes, I straightened my seat but then suddenly, I saw something--- someone rather from the corner of my eyes and I turned in his direction. And my mouth dropped at the scene that came into my sight. "Ohh... he's here," I heard Dana mutter.
Yeah, he's here. My ex-husband is here with the bitch clinging onto his arm.
"What the hell is she doing here?"
I turned to her as the tone of her voice suddenly changed from cheerful to annoyed.
"That's the same question I have in mind. Did you invite her?"
"No, of course, not! Why would I?" She replied frowning.
"Maybe your husband did," I mumbled with a shrug.
"Hmmp! Don't worry, she won't stay long!"
"It's okay, let her be---"
"No! This is my wedding and I didn't invite her, besides, you are my friend! You hate her and so am! And now I will make sure she will leave the party with or without Luke!"
"Dana---" I tried to grab her hand to stop her but it's too late as she already stood up and marched in her husband's direction. "Oh, my..." I just bit my lip and averted my eyes away from the incoming scene. But I think luck was on my side at that time as I saw Martin approaching my seat.
"Guess who's the most beautiful woman I've seen at this wedding?" He asked, grinning as he sat down on the chair Dana had left.
"The bride?" There was a question mark at the end.
"Oh, believe me, I really wanted to agree with you but my heart couldn't."
"Haist!" I chuckled, raising an eyebrow.
"It's true and it's you. You looked so gorgeous earlier as you walked down the aisle."
"Really?"
"Hmhm." He hummed his answer.
"Then what about now? Do I still look gorgeous?"
"Yes, of course! You look stunning, Sam, and how I wish I could dance with you."
"Tss! Then why don't you just ask me?" I asked him, laughing.
"May I?" He then asked, scratching the back of his neck.
"Sure," I nodded, grabbing his hand, and then we walked slowly towards the center where some are a couple dancing to the sweet music.
"By the way, I met your daughter earlier," He said right after I put my hands on his shoulders.
"Huh?" I gazed up at him, reading his expression. He is one of our regular customers in the coffee shop and yes, we somehow have become friends, but I didn't disclose anything about my personal life to him, so it kinda shocked me to hear what he said. "Yeah, and she is as beautiful as you,"
"Thanks for telling me I'm beautiful," I shrugged and he chuckled. We started to move on to the soft melody playing around the venue.
"Whoa! This is what I like about you, Sam, you speak what you have in your mind."
"Because that's what makes me, me." I shrugged with a smile. "But honestly, I wasn't like this before... a few years back."
"Why? What happened?"
"Hmm... let's just say that everyone changes because of what they have been through in their life."
"Is it because of your daughter's father?"
I smiled and shrugged again. "Kinda,"
Maybe if he had asked me a few years ago, I'm sure I would have run out of the venue immediately, but today is different. Perhaps the time has really healed the wound.
"Alright, I won't ask about it again and will just wait for you to open up about it."
"Thanks, Martin," I appreciate what he said.
"But, anyway, can I ask about your daughter's father? I mean, where is he now?"
And that question made me laugh for a few seconds.
"He's here,"
"What? What do you mean he's here?" Shock and confusion laced in his reaction.
"He's here and actually, you've already met him,"
"Oh, where did I meet him? And is he really here at the venue? Whoa! It suddenly made me intrigued."
I nodded. "Yes, he had just arrived a few minutes ago, but you've met him at the coffee shop two or three weeks ago."
He stared at me. Maybe he was thinking which of the men he encountered at the coffee shop was my ex-husband. "Who would that be?"
I couldn't help but chuckle as he asked himself subconsciously.
"Do you want some clues?" I grinned.
"Oh, sure, baby!" His voice came a bit loud that caught the attention of the couple who was dancing near us. "Shhh!"
"I'm sorry," he shrugged.
"Okay... it's the CEO,"
"The CEO?" He frowned.
"Yes, the CEO,"
He turned into silence for a few seconds and then screamed unexpectedly.
"Oh, my God! The CEO! So he is your--- I mean he is your ex-husband?"
"Yup," I replied popping the letter 'p'. "He's my ex-husband and the father of my beautiful daughter."
"Whoa! I wonder what that jerk CEO had done to break your heart. But I can tell you've already moved on from the pain he had caused you."
"Really? How can you say so?" I asked, looking straight into his eyes.
"Because I can see it through your smile... the way you move and the way you talk to him."
"I want to ask you something," I said seriously.
"Sure, anything, baby," he replied and I giggled.
"If the person you love so much hurt you, and a few years later, you met again and said that he's regretting everything he did to you and then apologized and asked for another chance, do you think you should give him another chance?"
"I like your question, baby," he grinned.
"So, what do you think?"
"Do you still love him?"
I was surprised at his question and was about to respond because I really wanted to know what he was going to say, but I didn't get the chance to hear anything of it as the person we were just talking about appeared in front of us that made us exchange glances and look at him at the same time.
