One More Chance
Chapter 93: The persistent Luke

~~~I was as wrong as I could be to let you get away from me, I'll regret that move for as long as I'm living. But now that I've come to see the light, all I want to do is make things right. So just say the word and tell me that I'm forgiven. You and me we're gonna be better than we were before. I loved you then but now I intend to open up and love you even more~~~
-Sérgio Mendes-
The following day, I wasn't that surprised when I saw him again at the coffee shop, wearing his business suit and at the same time as the other days. But what surprised me was the people were eating with him. He told me they were his business colleagues and they have a meeting regarding their new project. Although I didn't ask him for an explanation, well, I just nodded, so he couldn't be embarrassed in front of his friends.
That day didn't just end there without me asking him about his intention for doing such thing every day.
"Luke, what are you doing?" I asked him when all his friends had already left the shop. I intentionally approached him and asked for him to sit back.
"What do you mean what I'm doing?" He leaned against his seat and stared at me with amusement written in his eyes.
"I know you know what I am talking about. Why are you doing this?
"Why am I doing what?"
I held my breath for a few seconds then slowly released it. A simple and effective way to calm my nerves.
"Why are you always here and always bringing companion? Yesterday, you were with Patrick and then now with some of your business friends? What is this--- why are you doing this?"
"I told you, we had a meeting and you saw it, didn't you? And about yesterday, I already explained to you that I don't want to go to work without having breakfast."
"Oh, come on, Luke! There are a lot of restaurants near your office building, so why do you bother coming here when you know it's out of the way?"
"I've already told you the reason, besides, I love your new flavours of frappe coffee."
"I don't believe you," I said in a serious tone, but he just chuckled at me.
"If you don't want to believe me, then what would be the reason why I come here every day?"
"I don't know!" I shrugged. "Why don't you tell me?"
He sighed. His smile slowly died as he stared at me seriously.
"Do you want an honest answer?"
I gulped. I don't know why I suddenly felt nervous.
"The truth is that I wanted to see you. I want to see you and ---"
I didn't let him finish his sentence as I raised my hand, motioning him to stop.
And a sarcastic chuckle left my lips before opening my mouth.
"We've already talked about this matter, haven't we? The only reason I'm talking to you is because of Cali, because of our daughter."
"I know, but I'm willing to do everything just for you to forgive me, Sam."
I just stared at him, shaking my head. This is why I don't want to talk to him, I just have no choice. I don't want to discuss anything related to our past.
"I've told you this before, but I'll repeat it again. Forgiveness is not something I can give you easily and to be honest, I don't know if I can find myself giving it to you. But yeah, you can keep doing your thing, but I can't promise you anything." I stood up. "Sam---"
"Thank you for coming, Sir, have a nice day." I smiled as I walked back to the counter.
"I'll keep coming back!" He said a little aloud that made some of the customers and even our employees to look at him.
"Then go ahead, no one's stopping you." I glanced at him before finally heading towards the counter.
But to my surprise, I didn't know he got up and followed me. He stopped right in front of the counter. "I'll keep coming back every day to ask your forgiveness...."
"Luke---"
"And every day I'll prove and show you the version of me that I should have shown you before."
"There's no need for doing that!" I started to get annoyed with what he's talking about as he also started gaining everyone's attention.
"No, I told you I would do everything to earn your forgiveness, so expect to see me every day, sweetheart." He winked at me.
"Huh!" My eyes as well as my mouth dropped open when I heard his last word. I don't know --- I'm not sure, but I think it's the first time he called me by that name.
"That's it, have a good day and thanks for the breakfast." He turned around and was just taking a few steps when he turned back to the counter again. "Hey---"
"I forgot to give you this." He smiled.
"What the hell is this?" I asked confused.
"Just open it." He said giving me a piece of paper before finally walking to the exit.
I really wanted to call him again, but I saw Jack's car through the glass window, parked right in front of the coffee shop, so I held back. I don't want her to know what's going on between us.
I slowly opened the white paper only to be surprised at what was written on it.
**Hi, thanks for giving me the best coffee in town and sorry if you think I'm bothering you again. But like I said, this time I'm willing to do everything to earn your forgiveness and I hope someday you can find it in your heart**
"What a childish act!" I was about to
crumple the paper and throw it in the bin, but remembered Jack. -'What if she sees it and gets curious about it? And with that thing in my head Pchanged my mind. I just folded it back into its original fold earlier and simply put in my pants pocket.
"Hi, guys, good morning." Jack greeted not just me but all of our employees.
"Good morning." I smiled at her and pretended as if nothing had happened before she arrived.
The next morning, my mouth hung open when ten or more children walked into the coffee shop with Daniel and Patrick following behind them.
I don't know what my reaction would be, seeing him attending to those kids.
"What are you doing this time, Mr Williams?" I asked him through gritted teeth, but of course, still having a smile on my lips as I don't want the kids to get startled.
"Don't worry, I'll pay for their orders." He said having the widest grin.
"Oh, my gosh! That's not I meant! What asking is hat are you doing with them
are their parents
why have you
here?"
"Ohh... they were from Give a child's love foundation, one of the foundations the company was helping. They no longer have parents, which means they're all completely orphans now."
My head snapped automatically to those children when the word 'orphans' came out of his mouth. Their eyes showed pure innocence as they stared back at me. I looked at Luke again with emotions I don't know how to explain, but I guess he understood as he gave me a sad smile.
"Yeah." He nodded. "Some of them
have been left since they were babies and others were found by the foundation on the streets." And then he sighed "And as for your questions, I decided to bring them out with the help and permission of the management, of course, for them to relax even at least for today as tomorrow is their foundation day and they have whole day activities."
I didn't know and I didn't notice that while he was speaking, a smile began to crawl across my lips. I just realized it when I heard my name being called by one of the kids, but when turned to them, I found out that it wasn't me who he was calling but one of the little girls. It just happened to be that we have the same name.
"Sam, what do you want?" The boy asked the little girl who I think is only five years old.
"I want a chocolate drink and I also want four chocolate cake, Felix."
I couldn't help but chuckle at what the girl said. I found it so cute. I know for sure, the little girl loves chocolate like my baby.
"Felix and Sam were siblings. Felix is seven years old while Samantha will turn five tomorrow."
"Really?" I turned to Luke, surprised, before turning my eyes back to the little girl. "Hello, so you are Samantha, right?" The little girl nodded. "Wow! Don't you know that we have the same name? My name is also Samantha." The look of surprise in her eyes made me laugh.
"We have the same name! Yehey!" She squealed and jumped on the floor in excitement.
"Yes, we have the same name and I heard tomorrow is your fifth birthday."
"Yes, that's why I asked Mister handsome if he can buy me a chocolate cake tomorrow because it's my birthday."
"Mister handsome?" I frowned and glanced at Luke.
"That's me." He smiled and I rolled my eyes.
"Anyway, since it's your birthday tomorrow, how about if I give you a large chocolate cake?"
"Wow!" Her eyes lit up with excitement. "Really?"
"Yup. It's my birthday gift to a beautiful girl like you." I winked at her and she started squealing again.
And our day started by attending and giving the orders of the little customers that occupied almost half of the space of the coffee shop. And since they were still kids, of course, they couldn't help but be so hyperactive and jolly. and write something...
