One More Chance -
Chapter 96: I screwed up
~~~Looking back now it seems so clear, I had it all when you were here. Oh, you gave it all but I took it for granted. But if there's some feeling left in you, some flickers of love that still shines through, let's talk it out, let's talk about second chances. Wait and see, it's gonna be sweeter than it was before. I gave some then but now I intend to dedicate myself to giving more~~~
LUKE's POV:
"What? You told her you're going to sell your house... I mean you and her house?" Patrick asked me in shock as soon as I told him my plan the next morning.
"Yes." I nodded, sighing and then got up to join him on the couch in front of my desk.
"What did she say? Did she agree?" His eyes showed confusion as he followed my moves until I finally seated in front of him.
"Yes, and she was shocked. She couldn't believe I kept the house. She thought I'd already sold the property a long time ago."
"Ohh... so what made her agree in an instant when you told her about your plan?"
That question made me take a deep breath and let it out loud.
"Hmm... I think I already knew the answer."
My head snapped at him, frowning as I saw him smirking.
"Let me guess, she said like this... (he pretended to be Sam and mimicked the way she talks)...why would I want to keep that house? I don't remember even a single memory that we became a family in that old house, besides, it would just remind me of how you fucking cheated on me! So yes, I agree to sell the house---ouch! Why did you hit me?" His face scrunched as he asked me after hitting him with a throw pillow.
"Because that's not what she said, idiot!"
He just gave me a hilarious laugh before shaking his head.
"Anyway, what exactly is the reason why you suddenly wanted to sell the house?"
I looked at him, sighing.
"Honestly, one reason is in what you said. We never had fond memories to remember from that house. Even from the day of our wedding and on the first day we moved in. All I gave her was pain and sadness. The only happy memory we had in that house was when we had Cali and the rest were hurtful ones."
"I got it---"
"But that's not what I told her."
"What?" His eyes turned to me in confusion.
"I told her I had to sell the house because I wanted to donate my shares to the charity I was helping personally and to Give a child love foundation."
"Oh, dude, why did you do that? Why didn't you tell her the truth?"
"Well, at first, I was just trying to find out what her reaction would be, but what she answered me was like a sharp knife that stabbed me instantly. Whew!" I let out a heavy breath. "Suddenly the mistakes I've done to her came back to me and brought me back to the moment when all I did was being an asshole, a dumbass and useless husband!"
"What exactly did she say?"
"She said there's no reason to keep the house as we already divorced four years ago and we're not going back together anymore."
"Ohh... see? I was right!" He chuckled but I narrowed my eyes on him. "Aherm! So, what did she say when you told her about your plan of donating your shares to the 'charity'?" He emphasized the last word.
"She agreed and suggested to take her shares and donate them to the foundation as well. She said those kids needed the money than Cali."
"What? She said that?"
"Because Cali's father is rich and can buy his daughter even bigger than that old house." I chuckled.
"Whoa! She has a point there, but the fact that you haven't told her the truth had just added to the things you haven't told her yet. Well, this thing doesn't have much an impact compared to the things you chose not to tell her---"
"Hey, it's not like I don't want to tell her. I just couldn't find the perfect timing and opportunity to talk to her!"
"Oh, then use this as an opportunity to tell her that you didn't file the divorce papers she left on your study table four years ago! And not to mention that you discovered something or let's say, you discovered the truth that she didn't really seduce you that night at the bar! That there was a sex video that scattered through the internet six months after she left! And that video contained the truth that it was you who made the first move and not her! You raped her---"
"What the hell, Patrick! I didn't rape her! I was drugged that night and so was she!"
"Fine! I'm sorry! But what I'm trying to say is that you easily blamed her and judged her for what she did, man! Andas what you told me, you said never asked for her
you
explanation and four years had past and you never talked again about what happened!"
I chose to stay quiet for a few seconds. It's not that I lost my words, but what he was saying was right and I had no courage to defend myself.
"Dude, what if you didn't bump into that stupid, idiot, dumbass of a bartender and you didn't have the chance to talk to him, what are you going to do? Are you still going to believe that Sam, your wife was to blame for what happened?"
"It doesn't matter anymore, Patrick! Either she or I made the first move, it doesn't matter to me as long as we had Cali---"
"Oh, really? But man, that's not what you did because you still blamed her, you accused her!"
Again, silence embraced me for the second time. It's hard to hear all of those things, especially that I was the one who made them.
"And that's my fault, Patrick. I
screwed up. My life, my marriage, I messed up everything and soon I lost her. I didn't even realize that what I had was the most precious gem back then and I just easily let her go. I easily let go of the Wonderful family I have had for more than four years."
At that moment, I thanked God that Patrick cooperated with my silence. My elbows were on my knees and my hands were currently supporting the weight of my head. And even though I wasn't looking at him,T know that at that moment, he was staring at me, shaking his head.
And yeah, I already knew what's running through his mind. I'm sure he was silently saying... 'Now you understand the pain you caused her! Take it, take it all because it's just you who caused it to yourself!' I heard him sigh after a few minutes.
"So, how long will you be like this, I mean, how long will you keep the truth from her?"
"I will tell her everything once I get the chance." I looked up and glanced at him.
"Alright, what if she hates you more when she finds out the truth?"
"Well, I'll do everything to explain it to her."
"And what if she asked or let's say, she wanted to divorce you and this time is for real? What will you do?"
"I won't let that happen!"
"Damn! The spirit! Okay, what if---"
"How many what-ifs do you have, Patrick?" I asked him seriously that made him scratch the back of his neck as he chuckled.
"Fine! I just want to wish good luck, dude. May you bring your family back---but I highly doubt it!" He was just the one who contradicted his statement.
"Tss! You know what, I really don't know why am I sharing my thoughts with you when all do was played out as if you've never made a mistake in your life!" I stood up but not before hitting him with the throw pillow again. "Ouch!"
I went back to my chair and thought of starting to check the reports he just brought from the finance department this morning.
"Dude, just hear me out why I have doubts---"
"Stop it, Patrick, and go back to your office!"
"No! I doubt you can get your wife back because she already has a boyfriend and that is David, the genius and handsome Doctor! And not to mention that they are going to get married soon."
"That's not going to happen! I won't let that happen!" I screamed, but he never even flinched, instead, he just returned it with a chuckle.
"Haha... as if you can stop the wedding."
"Of course! I haven't filed the divorce papers, so technically, I'm still her husband and we're still legally married!"
"Oops! In case you have forgotten, these exact words came from you, you're married just in papers."
I took a deep breath and glared at him as if I were a predator ready to attack his prey.
"You better get out now, Patrick, before I could break your neck!"
"Oh, whoa! Chill, dude! Actually, that's what I was going to do even before you mentioned it." He immediately got up and ran towards the door. "Have a good day, Sir." He said his hand to his forehead in a salute gesture before finally leaving my office. "Haist!" I couldn't help but scream when he left.
