Just as she finished speaking, Alex and Nina came down the spiral staircase together. Nina seemed surprised to see Cynthia and Jonathan there too. She thought, 'Did they also pair up successfully?'

Nina and Alex approached them both. Alex teased, "So, you two are paired up too, huh?"

Cynthia casually explained, "It's the reward for winning first place in the show's cooking contest."

Nina felt a bit more at ease after hearing that. Actually, right after she boarded the plane with Alex, she started to regret it.

She had never disobeyed Jonathan since she was a child and knew he was concerned about her. She worried that Jonathan would stop caring about her from that point on.

"Mr. Bennett," Nina called out. "I have something to say to you."

Alex was savvy and said, "Nina, I'll head out first. Catch up with me later."

Cynthia just turned to the butler and said, "Please take me to my room." Cynthia followed the butler and left.

Nina took Jonathan to a garden where there were no cameras. "Mr. Bennett, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have been so impulsive," Nina apologized first.

Jonathan's face was serious. "Nina, you clearly understand our situation. This reality show was orchestrated by Whitney. She hasn't acted yet, and I'm uncertain about her true intentions, so I must be cautious at every step. I can only keep you safe if you work with me." Nina felt more and more guilty. "I won't act like that again, Mr. Bennett. Whatever you need me to do, I'll do it."

Jonathan nodded. "Keep your distance from Alex. Even though we can't confirm it, he's been overly attentive to you, so he might have bad intentions."

Nina replied, "I'll follow your advice."

Jonathan's expression gradually softened. "Be careful and don't let Whitney find an opening." With that, he gently patted Nina's head. "Good, you can go back now."

Jonathan had already turned away, but Nina still stood there. His every move and gentle tone made her feel like Jonathan was still the same as before. Jonathan had already walked a few steps away.

Nina bit her lip, summoning all her courage. Suddenly, she ran towards Jonathan and hugged him from behind. With her eyes tightly shut, she was almost bursting with nervousness.

Mustered all her courage, she shouted loudly, "Mr. Bennett, I like you, I really, really like you!

"When I was twelve, trapped in Whitney's basement, barely hanging on, you appeared like a hero. From that moment, I started liking you. Later, when you took a knife for me, I vowed would spend my whole life repaying you.

"Mr. Bennett, all these years I've secretly had a crush on you. Everyone says you've been waiting for me to grow up, and that made me really happy. Now that I'm grown up, I don't want to keep my feelings a secret anymore.

"Mr. Bennett, please let me be yours," Nina blurted out in one breath, her body trembling uncontrollably. She clung tightly to Jonathan.

It was kind of ridiculous. Everyone thought Nina was Jonathan's girlfriend. But actually, except for when he rescued her from the basement, they hadn't even hugged. She always missed his scent, a feeling of absolute safety that comforted her. Jonathan stood silently, not saying a word. Nina's heart sank more and more until Jonathan gently pried her fingers open

one by one.

Nina felt like she was drowning, the water closing over her head, cutting off her air.

After Jonathan let her go, he turned away, his voice flat and emotionless. "Nina, why are you taking others' opinions to heart? I've always told you, I'm just your Mr. Bennett. You should know that by now."

Nina remembered all too well. At eighteen, she'd tried to confess her feelings, and he'd given her the same answer. But the whispers outside had her believing she was the only one Mr. Bennett cared about. The more she heard it, the more she wanted to believe it. Maybe she just wanted it to be true. Her arms dropped, her head hung low, and tears streamed down her cheeks.

"I've watched you grow up," Jonathan said. "I see a bit of my younger self in you, Nina. I protect you because I want you to be independent, maybe even outdo Whitney someday.

"I don't want you to get lost in emotions. You have a mission, for yourself and your family. I can't be there to protect you forever."

Nina wasn't really listening. "Mr. Bennett, is it Cynthia? Is that why you're pushing me away?" Jonathan's eyes hardened, and the air between them seemed to freeze.

Looking up at him, her eyes brimmed with tears. "I know what Celine said is true. Cynthia was your girlfriend in Roncrity, but you broke up. Why can't you accept me? I like you so much I would do anything for you."

"Nina!" Jonathan's voice was firm. "I could never like you. I will never be able to like anyone else."

'Am I just someone else?' Tears welled in Nina's eyes, a trace of a smile on her lips. "You still like Cynthia, don't you?"

"Yes," Jonathan answered confidently. "If someday I have a wife, it will definitely be her, and only her."

"What if Cynthia loves someone else?" Nina could tell Cynthia wasn't that interested in Jonathan; she was even a bit dismissive and uninterested.

Nina didn't know why they broke up, but now that Preston was also pursuing Cynthia, maybe Cynthia wouldn't want to go back to Jonathan.

Jonathan answered firmly, "Then I'd remain alone for the rest of my life."

Nina hadn't expected Jonathan to give such an answer, and seeing him, she still held onto a glimmer of hope.

But now, all hope seemed to have turned to ashes. Biting her lip, Nina said, "I understand, Mr. Bennett," and then she left.

Watching Nina's retreating figure, Jonathan let out a deep sigh, feeling somewhat irritated. As he looked up, he suddenly noticed a figure on the third floor-it was Cynthia.

Cynthia was standing on the balcony, her body half hanging out as she leaned over, listening with a gossip-loving expression on her face.

Cynthia didn't actually hear anything. The wind was strong tonight, and she was too far away. But she had an idea.

From the looks of it, Nina had confessed to Jonathan. But Jonathan didn't seem to have accepted it. If he had, the two would-be hugging by now.

When she leaned back, Cynthia glanced down and noticed Jonathan was looking up at her. She felt a little uneasy for no reason. But she acted like nothing was wrong, picked up the glass of red wine nearby, and turned to her room casually. She had just entered the room for less than three minutes when a loud knock came from the door.
