Chapter 243

Cynthia wandered around the school. It wasn't a weekend, and although the school was open to the public, there weren't many visitors. The students were all in their regular classes.

After a while, it was already noon, so Cynthia went to the student cafeteria for a meal. Even though this was the place of her birth and the origin of everything, after twenty years, there was no trace of the old hospital left. Cynthia had come here today simply to pay her respects. After finishing her meal, she left the school. Not far from the school gate was a small alley, Cynthia saw two students being beaten up by a bald man.

She hurried over. The two students were just from ordinary middle schools, around their teens, but both looked lanky and frail. They were no match for the tattooed, yellow-haired thug who was kicking and punching them. Cynthia quickened her pace and soon reached the bald man. Without a word, she grabbed his hand, and with a sharp crack, it sounded like bones breaking.

The bald man, sweating profusely from the pain, shouted, "Who are you?!"

Ignoring the bald man, Cynthia turned to the two small boys and asked. "What's going on here?"

One of the boys, looking at the bald man with fear, stammered, H-He comes every day to collect protection money. If we don't give it to him, he drags us into the woods at night and beats us up." Cynthia couldn't believe that in a society governed by law, such things could still happen in broad daylight. Frowning, she asked, 'Does the school know? Do your teachers know?"

The two kids shook their heads in unison. He wouldn't let us. If we told, he'd beat us even worse."

"How long has he been threatening you like this?

"A month..."

The bald man was already charging over, his fists clenched. "You bitch, mind your own business, he growled. Before he could finish, Cynthia kicked him square in the chest, sending him sprawling to the ground. Turning back to the boys, Cynthia said, "Go back to school now. I can assure you; that the bald man won't show up here again.

"And remember, if something like this happens again, tell your teacher or call the police. The more scared you are, the more he'll take advantage of it. Got it?"

The two boys nodded vigorously, then hurried off to school. Only then did Cynthia turn around. She flexed her fingers, then dragged the bald man deeper into the alley. Soon, the sound of a man's agonized walls filled the air. Some people outside the alley heard the commotion and peeked in. They saw a battered and bruised bald man desperately crawling out, shouting for help. He kept pleading with passersby to call the police.

But most of the locals had been bullied or extorted by the bald man at some point-Everyone knew him as a thug named

Luke.

Because of his influential relatives, he always managed to get out of trouble quickly. This made many people too afraid to confront him. Cynthia, however, had hit just hard enough. Though Luke looked like he'd been through hell, Cynthia was confident that if he were taken to the hospital, they'd find nothing more than minor bruises.

Cynthia dusted off her hands and said, "Listen up. Fll be coming here every day. Every time I see you,

you bullying people or extoring protection money, I'll beat you twice,"

With that, Cynthia turned to leave. She was confident that today's lesson would keep Luke from coming back to this place easily.

But after just a few steps, she heard Luke's voice, filled with venoit, behind her. "I know who you are. You're the girl that Silas brought to the hotel four years ago..."

At the mention of "Silas," Cynthia's blood ran cold, and her feet felt frozen. She suddenly felt chilled and couldn't stop trembling. Was the Silas he mentioned Silas Wood?

"The same thug who had conspired with Lilian to assault her?' Cynthia thought. To be honest, Cynthia had never actually seen this man. She had no memory of him at all. She had been drugged and assaulted while unconscious.

Cynthia had only heard Silas's rough, gravelly voice in a video on Lilian's phone, and it made her feel sick. Even though she had never seen him, his name had become an inescapable nightmare and a stain on her life. Cynthia slowly turned around, her eyes wide with shock as she looked at Luke lying on the ground. Seeing the look of shock and a hint of fear on Cynthia's face, Luke thought he had found her weakness. "Didn't expect me to recognize you, did you? You're the woman Silas toyed with. Either you finish me off today, or when I

better, I make sure to finish you all, he sneered.

The bald man mustered all his strength and managed to crawl to his feet. He laughed smugly, "Do you know who I am? I'm Luke, the big boss around here."

The last word got stuck in her throat. Cynthia grabbed him by the neck and, with surprising strength, lifted him up with one hand Her strength was astonishing Luke thought to himself.

Luke clawed at Cynthia's hand, struggling fiercely, but it was like being trapped in the grip of a giant python. No matter how hard he fought, he couldn't break free.

His face turned beet red, almost to the point of dripping blood, and his lips started to turn purple. His eyes bulged, bloodshot and on the verge of popping out. For the first time, real fear flashed across his face. He looked at Cynthia as if she were a demon. He thought, 'She was not only strong but also seemed to have a wild, unpredictable side.

The air in Luke's lungs was rapidly depleting, and he felt stars dancing in front of his eyes. The sensation of suffocation made him feel like he was drowning. But he had no more strength left to struggle.

Just when he thought he was about to meet his end, Cynthia suddenly released her grip. Luke crumpled to the ground. clutching his throat and coughing violently, gasping for air.

Those few minutes felt like he had been to the gates of hell and back. When he looked up at Cynthia again, his eyes were filled with sheer terror.

Cynthia slowly approached. Luke kicked his legs and scrambled backward, "Stay away! You crazy wolnan, stay away!"

Cynthia had regained her composure. She spoke each word with icy clarity, "Tell me everything you know, word for word. Otherwise, you won't be leaving this alley with all your limbs intact today Luke looked at Cynthia, genuine fear in his eyes. "Actually, I don't really know much. Back then, I was just a lookout for Silas.

"I saw him bring a woman into the hotel. Her face was so beautiful that it left a strong impression on me. That's why I recognized you the moment I saw you today.

"But that day, you weren't the one who was assaulted."
