Chapter 252
Cynthia frowned. There were several ultrasound pictures on the bed, showing the baby inside. Though not very clear, you could vaguely see the shape of the baby, with the eyes, nose, and mouth forming
There were lots of pictures. The baby sucking its thumb, curled up, and even yawning. Lilian handed the pictures back to Cynthia, and she took them without thinking, her eyes fixed on the black-and-white images. Lilian carefully watched Cynthia's expression, "He's cute, isn't he Do you like him?"
Cynthia threw the pictures back on the bed and said, "Lilian, stop with the nonsense. This is your kid, not mine. How could I possibly like him?"
Lilian stared at Cynthia, "Would you like him if he were yours?"
Cynthia looked down at Lilian with a smirk, "Oh, are you trying to make me the kid's godmother or something?"
Lilian's eyes flickered. "It's a good thing you were here today. Honestly, I don't know what would have happened to me and the baby. If you're willing...
"I'm not willing Cynthia flicked her hair back, her expression becoming distant again, "Lilian, don't even think about your sneaky plans. You should know just how much I can't stand you right now
Lilian's face fell, her spirits dimming. Cynthia continued. "But I did save you today, that's a fact. If you're interested in repaying me, there might be a way."
A spark of hope flashed in Lilian's eyes. "What do
you want me to do? How can I possibly make you forgive me?"
Cynthia turned around swiftly. "Tell me, was it you who killed Silas?"
Lilian's expression changed, her eyes wide with surprise and a hint of panic.
She never expected Cynthia to ask this. After a brief pause, she said, "Cynthia. I don't know what you're talking about! How on earth could I ever kill anyone
Cynthia looked into Lilian's eyes, hoping to spot any hint of deception. But there wasn't anything obvious. Over the past few days, Cynthia had not accepted what Luke said to her.
t a call from Lilian, he disappeared. When they found him at the reservoir two days later, he had been dead to
After Silas quite some time.
Naturally, Lilian was the last person to see Silas, making her the most likely suspect.
"Cynthia, how could you charge me with such a severe crime? If I remember correctly, wasn't he found drowned in the reservoir? Maybe he just accidentally walked into it while traveling at night." Lilian said, "Walking at night? How do you know he died at night?" Actually, Cynthia hadn't known any of this.
A hint of panic flickered across Lilian's eyes. "I was just guessing usually, someone wouldn't just randomly fall into the water during the day."
Cynthia found it strange, an indescribable kind of strange. But she said this just to feel things out.
at Lilian, Cynthia said, "Lilian, I will definitely get to the bottom of this. The truth from back then will come
eventually. If you really did commit murder, you won't escape the law's justice."
With that Cynthia left. Lilian sat on the bed, her fingers turning the sheets white as she gripped them. She thought, If Cynthia uncovered everything I had done in the past, would she really send me to jail?" 10:32 Thu, Nov 14
Chapter 252
There were some things Lilian couldn't let Cynthia find out. At least, not yet.
After Cynthia left the hospital, she received a call from Filip. Cynthia frowned but answered it. Filip's drunken voice came through. "Cynthia, did you call me? Sorry, I missed it earlier."
Filip kept talking on his own. "All these years, it's the first time you've called me. I'm really happy, Cynthia..."
Cynthia's voice was calm and emotionless. "Lilian had a miscarriage. She's now in the maternity ward at Peace Hospital"
Filip sobered up instantly. "What? Say that again!"
Cynthia hung up immediately. A slight smirk appeared on her lips. As a father, he was completely incompetent. She exaggerated the miscarriage on purpose. Serves him right.
After leaving the hospital, Cynthia suddenly didn't know where to go. She headed to Roncrity Police Department. Cynthia had once interviewed the police chief there, namely Mr. Thomas. She had given him a heads-up. Mr. Thomas had specially arranged for an assistant to meet her
The assistant Bill searched for a long time before bringing out a stack of old files from the archive. He said, "Ms. Jones, these are the records of the case from five years ago that you requested" Cynthia accepted them gratefully. "Thank you for your help.
Bill had been working in the records department for many years, and it was the first time he had ever seen such a stunning beauty in real life.
He was especially attentive to Cynthia. "Ms. Jones, why are you looking through these records? It's just a typical drowning
"When the body was first discovered, it had beerf dead for two days. Silas was a well-known troublemaker in the local area, notorious for his violent and reckless actions,
"His unexpected death actually solved a big problem for the locals-it was like karma catching up with him."
Cynthia had already opened the case file and was carefully looking through the records from that year. Bill leaned in to explain to Cynthia, "Silas was from an orphanage, he had no patents.
"So, when he died, no one claimed his body, and no one cared. He was found at noon, and by the afternoon, the case was filed and archived.
"Ms. Jones, these are cases from five years ago, why are you looking into them?"
Cynthia didn't answer his nosy question. Her eyes were locked on a report, the forensic autopsy report. A line in it made her heart race and her pupils shrink. The deceased had no water in their lungs" She thought. If it was a drowning, how could Silas's lungs have no water? There was only one possibility. He must have been dead before entering the water.
Someone must have pushed his body into the reservoir after he died, which is why his lungs had no water.
Cynthia's fingers were clenched tightly, her expression tense like a string about to break
She turned and asked Bill. "His lungs aren't filled with water, which clearly means he didn't drown. Why is nobody investigating this?"
Bill scratched his head and said, "Tm just a records keeper, but because this was the first case I recorded when I started my internship, I remember it very clearly" 10:32 Thu, Nov 14
Chapter 259
Bill felt a hit emborrated and sand. There was never any report and he had no family to speak up for him Plus, he was considered a societal menace
"At that time, the department was overwhelmed with major case during the anti crime crackdown, in nobody wanted to take on this neglected case, and it just faded away
Cynthia was shocked to her core. Her instincts were right all along. She pondered, Silas didn't die by accident, it was murder. But who was the killer? Did it have anything to do with ine?
After leaving the police station, Cynthia received a call from Sinon, who said they had found Luke.
