From Ethan’s point of view:

It wasn’t our intention to find Sussan in the woods, but once we caught her scent, it was nearly impossible for us to stop.

Liam and I locked eyes, our wolves inhaling the creamy aroma of their mate.

She was sitting alone on a large old log. Sunlight peeked through the trees, hitting her in the perfect spot. Her light, almost reddish hair shimmered under the sunlight, looking like freshly spun silk. The light fell upon her eyes, making them radiate with color.

“Are you going to eat me or not?” she said, her expression impassive, resigned to her fate, while looking at us.

Although it was evident that she was nervous, there was no fear in her eyes; only acceptance that her life could end that day. That fact sent a sharp resonating pain throughout my body, recalling the night we encountered her running, bent on finding a safe place to take shelter.

She stumbled along the sidewalk; Liam and I noticed her before she could see us.

That night, Sussan was indeed afraid, the kind of fear that drives people to do dangerous things. Her face was swollen, bruised; our packmate was injured.

Something had changed in Sussan in that short time. She smelled different, stronger than usual. Her scent swirled around us, amplified by some unseen force.

It was clear that something had happened inside the house where the party took place, something Sussan didn’t dare speak of. She distanced herself from us, begging us to leave her alone.

“What the hell happened to her?” Liam growled through the mental link. His eyes traveled up and down her body, trying to assess the damage she had suffered.

“Somebody hurt her,” I growled softly. “And they will pay for what they’ve done.”

From what we could see, only her face had been harmed. I let my gaze travel downward, noticing that her jeans were unbuttoned and the zipper was down.

I could feel my body trembling, fighting the urge to shift. Liam followed my line of sight and began his own battle, fighting the urge to shed our skin and hunt down the person who harmed our mate.

Sussan’s fear helped us maintain control. She needed us in that moment, and she was too frightened for us to harm her mind with our shift.

“Sussan…” Liam was the first to speak, and I saw the pain shatter my brother as Sussan moved away from him.

“Go away, leave me alone!” she shouted, like a frightened kitten.

Sussan ran off, leaping into the woods. Her speed was impressive considering her foot was in a surgical boot and she had injuries on her face. It was very strange.

“Follow her.” I turned to Liam. “Stay hidden, don’t get close to her. Just make sure she gets home safe.”

Determination mixed with pain in Liam’s eyes as he jumped into the forest behind our terrified mate. Every cell in my body wanted to follow her, to be the one to ensure Sussan made it safely home, but I couldn’t.

I needed to find out what had happened, to see the face of the person who hurt Sussan. Their terror-filled visage would haunt my dreams from that moment on, of that I was certain. Their eyes, which should have been filled with love and light, had been pierced by terror and pain.

I spent over an hour walking around the house, trying to understand what happened to Sussan. Only one person could give me something useful. A girl told me that Sussan had gone to the party with her friend, Vera.

I looked for Vera in the house, but she was nowhere to be found. If she had come to the party with Sussan, she was gone now. A light hand passed over my shoulder, and I knew who it was without even looking. The smell of perfume and hairspray reached my nose, making me wrinkle it involuntarily.

Liam had made things complicated for me by letting Sussan believe that I was still with Chloe. Come to think of it, I didn’t even understand why I was with her. Now I couldn’t even conceive the idea of being with anyone other than Sussan. All the other women were just cheap imitations of her, and I yearned for the real thing.

“I’m so glad you could make it,” Chloe purred, placing both hands on my shoulders as she stood on tiptoes.

“Not now,” I said, anger filling me. I removed her hands from my shoulders; even the thought of touching her skin disgusted me.

“You seem stressed,” Chloe said in a way that I’m sure she thought was seductive. Before, I might have been fooled because Chloe had always been easy, but nothing more. I didn’t make false promises to Chloe, and I never told her anything other than the truth. Love was not a factor in our relationship, nor were emotions.

“I’m sure there’s an empty room around here somewhere,” she said, laughing. She wrapped her manicured claw around my wrist and tried to push me towards one of the bedrooms. Something in her eyes made me pause. They seemed wide, and she exuded too much desperation, as if her life depended on what she was doing.

Before I could even blink, I slammed her against the wall. My eyes never left hers, even as a long c***k formed in the wall. Her eyes were almost bulging out, my hand wrapped around her slender neck.

“Chloe.” Her name was a growl that came out of my lips, dripping with disgust and anger. “I’ll ask only once. Did you touch Sussan?”

Chloe stammered for a moment, her face turning a deep shade of purple. I loosened my grip, realizing that I had almost killed her in my blinding rage.

“Sussan?” Chloe spat; it was no secret that Chloe didn’t like Sussan. “Why the hell would I touch her?” Her eyes were bright and defensive. She composed herself skillfully after almost being choked to death.

“Have you seen her tonight?” I forced my voice to remain calm, but I let my eyes burn with my true emotions. I was looking for b***d that night.

“Is she here?” Chloe snapped. “That’s great.”

I walked away from Chloe without saying another word; there were still more people to talk to. I planned to speak with each and every one of them, determined to find out who had their eyes on Sussan.

“You came all the way here,” Chloe complained. “Why don’t you hang out with me?”

“I didn’t come for you,” I kept my gaze forward as I walked away, refusing to look at Chloe again.

“She’s home safe,” Liam’s voice flooded my mind. A thick sense of relief washed over me.

“Good.” I nodded. “All I knew was that Sussan came here with a girl named Vera.” “Did no one else see her there?” Liam growled, his voice full of irritation.

“So far, no luck,” I grimaced, feeling the same way. “I won’t leave until I talk to everyone here. Someone saw her, I know it. I found myself in the kitchen, trying to talk to a girl who had had too much to drink.”

“Sussan?” She slurred, “No, I’m Rachel.”

“Have you seen Sussan?” I pressed the bridge of my nose and exhaled sharply in a futile attempt to maintain patience.

“I don’t know who that is,” the girl mumbled, shrugging her shoulders before stumbling to the side. “You can call me Sussan if you want.”

“The long, reddish hair.” I closed my eyes, picturing her in my head. “She was wearing a long-sleeved shirt and jeans. I’m sure you would have noticed.”

All the girls at this party were dressed to impress, in tight short dresses and heels. Sussan was the only one dressed casually, dressed for comfort.

“Oh, that girl,” the tipsy girl hiccuped, but caught my attention.

“Where did you see her?” The words came out of my lips quickly as I loomed over the drunk girl.

“Mm, Erick picked her up off the floor.” The girl shrugged. “I think your friend was really drunk.”

A grimace formed on my face. Sussan wasn’t drunk; that was clear when we met her. Liam and I would have been able to smell it coming off her breath.

She wasn’t drunk, yet she was on the floor? The name Erick registered in my mind, sending possessive jealousy surging through me. It wasn’t a coincidence that another man had her in his arms and she ran out of the house with her pants undone.

My vision started turning red, and I stormed through the house in an attempt to find that Erick guy.

It didn’t take me long to recognize his name. He was a member of our pack, two years older than Liam and me, but still a humble Omega. Begging constantly for some shred of power was what Erick was known for.

“Have you seen Erick?” My voice was a harsh growl as I asked person after person.

Finally, someone pointed me in the right direction. I rushed up the stairs, opening door after door until I found the person I was looking for. Erick sat in one of the bathrooms, looking at himself in the mirror as he cautiously touched his head. B***d stained the tips of his fingers. If only he knew, he was going to bleed a lot more before the night was over.

Erick looked into my eyes for a fraction of a second before running towards the window. I was much faster, my senses heightened by experience and b***d.

I held Erick against the wall, my claws painfully piercing his abdomen. B***d pooled, seeping into his shirt.

“What did you do to Sussan?” My voice was calm, relaxed. I was beyond the point of blinding rage. This pup would die in my hands for the crime he committed.

“I… Alpha, I didn’t do it,” Erick stammered. It’s hard to lie with a pair of claws piercing your skin.

I pushed them a little deeper, hearing the splatter of his torn flesh.

“Okay, okay, okay,” Erick pleaded, his face already slick with sweat. His body trembled, undoubtedly fueled by adrenaline. His body knew he was going to die, even before he did.

“What did you do?” I repeated, flexing my fingers slightly to bring just another pinch of pain.

“I just did what they told me, I swear,” Erick whimpered, his lips trembling. His eyes were wide and probing, and I wondered if he truly thought he would come out of this alive.

“Did you r**e her?” I approached, my chest vibrating as I awaited his response.

“No,” Erick stammered. “She hit me, escaped, I’m so sorry.”

Erick dissolved into a trembling, sobbing mess. It was a shame that men couldn’t retain the slightest shred of dignity in the face of death. Many people tremble in fear, soiling themselves as they beg for their lives.

I refuse to die like that, stubborn and insolent until the end.

“As your Alpha, I condemn you to death for the crimes against Sussan, your Luna.” The words were calm, but my eyes gleamed with everything I truly felt.

For just a fraction of a second, Erick’s eyes lit up with realization. That didn’t last long as I drove my claws into his chest, cutting his heart.

“Where are you?” Liam’s voice echoed in my head. “I’m back at the party.”

“Second floor, fifth door on the left,” I replied.

A minute later, the bathroom door swung open. Liam’s eyes widened as he saw Erick’s lifeless body. I walked to the sink, cleaning his b***d off my hands.

“Damn,” Liam nodded, “He was one of ours, wasn’t he?”

I nodded, allowing my claws to retract into my hands.

“What did he do?” Liam grimaced.

“He tried to r**e Sussan,” I said as calmly as I could. The words alone sent my wolf into a bloodthirsty rage. Sussan was ours, as much as we were hers.

“He said someone urged him to do it. I’m afraid my anger got the best of me before I could ask who induced him,” Liam seemed frustrated, but he sighed in understanding.

“I can’t say I wouldn’t have done the same in your place.” Liam grimaced, “But I would have been much cleaner about it.”

Liam and I were almost identical in every way. The only thing that set us apart were our personalities. We both enjoyed killing, fighting, and defending what was ours. The only difference was that I was more bloodthirsty than my brother, wilder in the way I killed. Liam was more strategic. He could bring anyone and anything down just by looking at them for a moment. He preferred to kill in a smarter way, while I simply sank my teeth and claws into any piece of flesh I could handle.

“We’ll find out who induced him, brother,” I growled lowly.

“Until then, we’ll keep an eye on Sussan.” Liam nodded, “If she goes anywhere, we’ll follow her.”
