Ethan’s point of view:

I should have listened to that sinking feeling in my gut when I first laid eyes on Alpha Axel. I should have realized why Sussan seemed somewhat familiar to me. It was because I knew her father, Alpha Axel, quite well. It was known that he had a daughter, born to his mate, but there were no rumors of another child.

In the werewolf community, illegitimate children hold the same position. The Alpha’s firstborn is in line for the position, regardless of the woman who bore the child.

It didn’t take long to figure out. The day Liam and I went to Sussan’s house, only to find Axel standing at the door, some suspicions arose. Both of us knew for sure when we saw Sussan and Axel at the restaurant.

Her eyes were a copy of his face, her nose and cheekbones identical.

Indeed, Sussan resembled her father too much.

The moment we discovered the truth, a sinking feeling formed in my gut. Axel had never liked our family, always coveting what he couldn’t have. He was jealous that our territory extended beyond his, including some important cities within our reach.

What worried me the most was Sussan. Axel was a hound when he wanted something, and I knew Sussan wouldn’t be able to handle him. She had almost broken that day at the restaurant, for reasons still unknown.

The night we found her battered replayed in my dreams, reliving the fury of finding her broken and alone. Liam also dreamed of that night, only daring to mention it when we were alone.

Sussan had been a weakness that neither of us saw coming, yet it seemed we couldn’t let her go. Her secrets drove both of us insane. When she moved in with Axel, we were forced to stay away.

We had no idea if Alpha Axel was aware of our connection to Sussan, and we wondered what the repercussions of that could be. It was against our law to keep mates away from each other.

Axel was bound by law to hand Sussan over to us.

Alpha Axel’s house was completely unprotected, intended to taunt my brother and me. I knew he was safe in our pack, allowed to be in our territory because of his daughter.

The day everything went to s**t, Liam and I received a phone call from Aly.

Sussan had been at school that day, which surprised both Liam and me. She had willingly let us touch her, succumbing to the bond of a couple that we were trying to resist. It took all of our collective willpower not to take Sussan to that empty classroom, completing the bond before she knew the truth.

As much as we wanted to, we couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. We hadn’t revealed the truth to Sussan to protect her. Her fragility was evident, and the last thing we wanted was to scare her.

Aly had called us on Saturday morning, frustration reflected in her tone the moment I picked up. Liam and I weren’t close to Alysson, and we had our own group of friends that we hung out with, but Aly was Sussan’s friend, which made her important. Aly would tell us about her conversations with Sussan and how her day was going.

Sussan didn’t trust Aly much, a fact that angered her a lot.

“Sussan told me what happened to her face,” Aly mocked, her tone abrupt and angry.

Without pausing, Aly continued her train of thought.

“Chloe saw her getting close to you two and tried to scare her. She didn’t give me many details, but she seemed shocked. Apparently, Chloe threatened to hurt me if she told anyone. The human girl Vera was also involved, they set a trap for Sussan.”

Ethon’s point of view:

As much os we wonted to, we couldn’t bring ourselves to do it. We hodn’t reveoled the truth to Susson to protect her. Her frogility wos evident, ond the lost thing we wonted wos to score her.

Aly hod colled us on Soturdoy morning, frustrotion reflected in her tone the moment I picked up. “Susson told me whot hoppened to her foce,” Aly mocked, her tone obrupt ond ongry.

Without pousing, Aly continued her troin of thought.

“Chloe sow her getting close to you two ond tried to score her. She didn’t give me mony detoils, but she seemed shocked. Apporently, Chloe threotened to hurt me if she told onyone. The humon girl Vero wos olso involved, they set o trop for Susson.”

We needed some time to process Aly’s words. Liam’s dark eyes were fixed on mine as we listened. A wave passed between the two of us, our facial expressions mirrored each other as the killer rage flowed through our bodies.

Chloe had never been more than a toy to me, someone I had pushed the limits with for a long time. Regardless of the countless times I had told her the truth, Chloe refused to accept it.

“We’ll take care of Chloe. Were you planning to do something about it? Or were you happy to remain scared and silent?” I murmured, struggling to keep my voice even as my eyes remained on my brother. My anger shone through my words, and I wondered why Sussan wouldn’t tell both of us. Regardless of her thoughts toward us, she knew she could trust Liam and me, the bond of a couple told her that.

“You know how she is,” Aly complained irritably. “Always trying to deal with things on her own. It was hard enough to get her to admit what happened, and even then, I didn’t get many details.”

Liam was dressed and ready to go before I hung up the phone. His dark eyes had the same deadly hue as mine. In five minutes, we were leaving the house, the plans we had for that day postponed.

Liam and I were supposed to meet Alpha Thomas, a man who had earned his title by sheer coincidence. Thomas was the leader of a rogue group that had rapidly grown in size over the years. Alpha Thomas had earned his title a month ago and had made good use of his time.

His claimed territory overlapped with ours. Our meeting was to discuss a possible treaty and a potential reshaping of our own land.

Liam is the nicer twin between the two of us, quick to reach an agreement. I tend to be reckless, living in the moment without worrying about the consequences. The only thing similar between the two of us is our appearance and our fiery temperaments.

While our parents took a step back and let us take the reins, they closely monitored every decision we made. Liam and I had never let anything stop us; we had willingly stepped forward to assume the role. While they advised our decisions, they took a step back and let us take control. It had been difficult for Dad at first, but he had never been one to enjoy relinquishing control.

We still had to tell them about finding our mate. Neither of us looked forward to the conversation, unsure of the outcome. Twins sharing the same mate had never happened before, and there were no records of Alpha twins either. Sussan belonged to Liam as much as I belonged to him. Neither of us worried about what others would think, as we wouldn’t change anything about our feelings and connection to Sussan.

Both of them were in the kitchen, laughing while Dad prepared breakfast. Dad had been cruel at times during his reign as Alpha, but he always had a weakness for Mom. They were the perfect picture of what mates should be.

“It was about time you two woke up.” Our mom chuckled under her breath; her eyes sparkled as she looked at our dad.

Liam and I looked identical to our dad. The three of us had the same dark brown hair, dark brown eyes, and almost the same facial features. Our mom stood out next to the three of us. Her light blonde hair cascaded around her slim face, with the faintest hint of lines around her eyes and mouth. Bright eyes the color of sea foam, nothing like the dark eyes that belonged to her husband and sons.

“We’re delaying the meeting with Alpha Thomas.” I got straight to the point, wanting to waste as little time as possible.

“Is there something you need to talk about?” Mom looked between the two of us, her sea foam eyes scanning our angry features.

“No.” Liam shook his head, his eyes hardened.

“Do what you believe is right.” Dad could see the anger in our eyes, as well as our impatience.

Liam and I left the house, storming our way to Chloe’s house.

When we first took on the Alpha position, we decided to choose two Betas. Raised by their side, we chose our two best friends. Jacob and Michael are two of the pack’s finest warriors, and both took on the role of Beta. The downside of that decision was the constant influx of voices in our heads. There was rarely a moment of silence with Jacob and Michael around.

“We need to postpone the meeting with Alpha Thomas,” Liam was the first to speak through the mind link, addressing his words to Jacob and Michael.

“For how long?” Michael’s voice overlapped Jacob’s in the mind link.

“Three hours?” Liam turned and asked me, his eyes stern as we sped down the road.

“We can gather information from her in just two, brother.” I glanced away from the road, a grim smile on my lips.

“Then that’s what we need, just two hours.” Liam replied, cutting off the mind link before they could say anything else.

The two of us remained silent as we stopped at Chloe’s driveway. Her parents had been murdered when she was young, barely old enough to remember them. Her aunt had raised her, but from a distance. Money when she needed it, servants to attend to her needs, but her aunt never offered her love or boundaries. Chloe had let her life embitter her, with the intention of ruining anything good.

I knocked on the door of her house, my gaze turning a sickly shade of red. My wolf scratched at the edges of my mind, telling me to break down the damn door.

Chloe had failed miserably at hiding the flicker of fear in her eyes when she opened the door. A timid smile formed on her lips as she looked at the two of us, but I could still see that small trace of fear in her eyes. She had asked the Countess many times if Liam and I would share her. My patience wore thin as she continued to reject her suggestion.

“Ethan…” My name escaped Chloe’s lips, my self-control wavering as I pushed her inside the house. I stopped when her back collided with the wall. Fear bled into her eyes as she realized we knew.

“It doesn’t matter. You won’t see her again.” Chloe chuckled under her breath; her face flushed from my grip on her throat.

“What the hell are you talking about?” I asked, making a supernatural effort to control my wolf, which longed to snap her neck right then and there.

Chloe kept smiling. It was as if she enjoyed the anger she saw suppressed in my eyes.
