Promises Forgotten -
Chapter 29
Evie’s eyes widen a bit as the words left my mouth. “Z…”
“Tell me you don’t feel it. Tell me it’s just me and I’ll leave now.”
“And if…if I do feel it? The pull? The need?”
I stared at her for a few moments without saying a word. Leaning in, I kissed her lips gently, barely pressing against them. As I leaned back, I smiled. “Take responsibility. Remember, you’re the adult in this. I will defer to my elders.”
Her surprise was quickly replaced by laughter.
“As you wish.” She said before standing up, out of my view.
As she walking down the aisle, I got to see her in the bridesmaid dress. It was soft lavender and in a very Grecian looking style. There were braided ties that held up the dress and crossed around the back. She walked up to the alter and headed to the far left. Her eyes caught mine and she winked. I watched as she picked up a violin that was plugged into a small amp on the deck. Placing the instrument at her neck, she started to pick at the strings and make adjustments. To say I was shocked was an understatement.
Taking a deep breath, she looked behind me before nodding. I turned and saw the other bridesmaids at the door. Turning back, I watched her as she brought the bow up and started to play. Her eyes closed and the music came over the landscape and hushed everyone in their seats. Her words from last night come filtering back in.
‘Do you like music?’
‘You could say that.’
Looking at her now, she didn’t just like music; she loved it. Her body moved and swayed as she played, ignorant of the men stepping up to the deck or the bridesmaids making their way down the aisle. Her eyes did open when people oo-ed and aw-ed at the little flower girl and ring bearer, holding hands as they toddled down the aisle together. My eyes watched hers as she watched the door. As soon as the two toddlers made their way to the front, I listened to the switch in music.
It wasn’t the usual wedding march, but something far more intimate and sultry. The bride walked down alone and everyone stood. I did as well, but my eyes focused on Evie. She was smiling, a wistful look on her face. Stepping forward as she played, Evie met the bride at the aisle. Still playing, tears shining in her eyes, she bowed gracefully in front of the bride. The bride brought her hands to her mouth, tears also in her eyes. The last note dropped, and Evie put the bow and violin down. Taking the hand of the bride, she walked her from the end of the aisle up to the deck, to her waiting groom.
“Just know, I’m giving you my best friend. I could have married her if I wanted to but I’m allowing you to. Don’t f**k it up.”
The whole place erupted in laughter and so do the bride and groom. The bride kissed her cheek and she stepped back, picking up her violin and bow again. For the rest of the ceremony, I watched Evie. She was smiling, tears still falling down every so often as she watched her friend get married. I wanted to wipe the tears off her face. They were tears of joy, I knew that, but I didn’t want her to cry. My hands itched to hold her to me. Worse, I wanted to hike that dress up her thighs and f**k her silly. Anywhere. It didn’t matter. I needed her.
For a moment, her eyes met mine and a soft smile reached my heart and pulled it out. It was official. I was whipped. Not even two days. Jason was going to f*****g kill me. My parents were going to kill me. My brother would laugh hysterically. Hell, Stacy would also kill me. I didn’t care, though. It didn’t matter. All that mattered was that I followed this woman wherever she went.
All the things my grandfather said. That sometimes, very rarely, there was a love out there that defied all expectation. A love that didn’t need time. Didn’t need to cultivate or grow. It struck in full force, but it never dissipated. Only glowed brighter over time. He said he had that with my grandmother. I thought he was joking. Trying to give excuses for marrying Grandmother after four days. Now, I knew he wasn’t lying. For the first time in years, I wished he was still alive. I wished I could speak to him. Tell him I was sorry and that he was right. It did exist. Mine was called Evie and I would be damned if I let her go easily.
The whole crowd around stood up and clapped as the bride and groom kissed. Evie started to play a more lively tune and the whole bridal party exited the deck and went inside. I knew there were double doors that lead into where they were most likely having the reception, but I waited for everyone to filter out before heading in. Once I did, I headed down the hallway that I had seen Angelica walk down.
A body slammed into mine but I immediately wrapped my arms around her. Evie was stunned for a moment before her face broke into a smile.
“You shouldn’t be on this side. This is for the bridal party only.”
I hummed and looked around. There was a room to our right and I reached down, turning the handle. Looking in, it was a powder room. It had a vanity, as well as space to get dressed with a mirror on the wall and a sink. Pulling her in, I shut the door behind me and locked it.
“Z…what…”
“I can’t f*****g wait. Not in that dress.”
Cupping her a*s, I lifted her up and pressed her back against the wall. My lips crashed into hers and I felt her hands wrap around my neck. Her legs also wrapped around me, the dress spilling over her thighs as it was brought up into her lap.
“F**k…Evie…”
“I need to be back for the first dance, Z. I promised I would play.”
I smiled, nipping her exposed neck and shoulders. “I guess I better be quick then.”
She hummed and I felt her h**s move against my hard d**k. Groaning, I licked her collarbone and moved a hand off her a*s. Unbuckling my pants and pulling my zipper down, I released my hard-on. A sigh of relief left me but her lips stole it away. She kissed me passionately, this time taking control and dipping her tongue in my mouth. She explored while I moved the offending material of the dress out of my way. My hand finally brushed the inside of her thigh and I reached up but my fingers only touched the slick lips.
“Evie, why aren’t you wearing any underwear?”
Her k**s stopped for a split second as I felt her mouth curl up in that f*****g smirk of hers. “I knew you would come.”
Taking a deep breath, I shook my head. This woman. Apparently, I was taking too long and she moved her h**s so that my e******n brushed up against her entrance. We both m****d and I nearly lost my footing. Stepping forward to better hold her up and brace her, my d**k went into her and we were both already panting.
“Z…I thought you said quick?”
Growling, I started to f**k her against the wall. She bit down on her bottom l*p to quiet her m***s but when she finally climaxed, I captured her lips in mine as she lost composure and cried out. I quickly finished as well, but we don’t break apart, kissing each other as though we would never k**s again. Our lips left one another as we gasped for breath.
“Shit. I don’t want to go out anymore.”
I laughed. “I mean, you’re the one who said you needed to do the first dance.”
She cursed again and nodded.
“You never told me you were a musician.”
A look flashed across her face that I couldn’t read. “I’m not.”
“You could have fooled me. You play beautifully.”
“I guess I should say, I’m not anymore.”
I brushed her cheek with my thumb. “Again, could have fooled me.”
“Alright, Mr. Fooled. What about you? You’re a musician as well, but you didn’t say shit.”
My brows furrowed. “I’m not…”
She put a finger on my lips. “No, sir. You are Mr. Fooled, not me. I saw you last night. You at least play the guitar, right?”
My eyes widened, stunned. I hadn’t told anyone about my little hobby. Not even Adrian. It was something small that I controlled solely in my life. I didn’t allow anyone to see or hear me. The only time anyone knew I had any type of talent was Adrian. After mom died, I would sing him to sleep from time to time, but Evie guessed from one night.
“What gave it away?”
“Musician to musician. We can tell. Will you play for me?”
I shook my head. “No. I don’t play in front of people. Or anyone.”
Her feet dropped to the floor and I gasped as I pulled out of her. She reached over to the vanity and handed me some convenient wipes. I went down on my knees and lifted up her dress, cleaning her up as well after I zipped up my pants.
“What if I say please?”
Standing up, I tossed the wipes in the trash and combed my hair back. She was already re-braiding her hair that I ruined at some point. “I told you. It’s not something I share.”
“But if your goddess requests to be worshiped with song?”
Her eyes caught mine in the mirror. I stood behind her, towering over her tiny frame. Brushing her shoulder with my fingers, I kissed it.
“If my goddess demands it of me, I guess I can’t say no. If you find a guitar, I will play for you and you alone.”
Her face lit up and it was almost like I’d handed her the world. I hadn’t spent a single penny on this girl, but she acted like I’d given her everything she needed to live. Turning her around, I captured her lips one more time before unlocking the door and pushing her out.
“Go. Before we end up going another round.”
She laughed and took off down the hall. I closed the door again and locked it, resting my head against the door. My phone in my pocket started to buzz and I looked at the caller ID. Sighing, I brought the phone up to my ear.
“What do you want, A?”
“Z, what the hell? Dad is so f*****g pissed. No one can get ahold of you. Mom is beside herself. You were supposed to go to a function today.”
I rolled my eyes and stood up. “I don’t care. About any of it. Got anything better to talk about before I hang up?”
“Is Jason there with you? His parents called and they are having dinner with Mom and Dad on Sunday. You’ll fly back then, right?”
“Jason is in Vegas with me, yes. Is he here right now? No. But I’m sure he knows his parents are coming back. I don’t know if I will be back on Sunday, honestly.”
The phone went quiet as my brother took a deep breath. “What the hell, Z? Why the hell won’t you be back?”
“I…met someone.”
Adrian started to laugh immediately, and I rolled my eyes. He wondered why I didn’t tell him shit.
“Are you serious? You’re joking right?”
“F**k off, A. I don’t know if I’m coming home. I’ll talk to you later.” Hanging up the phone, I rolled my shoulders, trying to crack my back.
Opening the door, I headed back in the direction of the reception, back in the direction I knew Evie would be. Just thinking about her brought a smile to my face and I was happy to bear through the wedding for her sake. Knowing we were going back to Vegas when all this was over and I was going to throw her in my bed, devouring every inch of her.
