Rebirth of the Prime Dragon Master -
Chapter 155 A Great Success
The spirit manipulators of the sixth squad all gathered in the village, anxiously waiting by the opening of the tunnel. All of them restlessly and painstakingly sat tight for Rocky's return. A piece of broken rope was casually lying beside them.
"Thor, is our captain dead?" one of the spirit manipulators asked.
"Stop talking nonsense. Our captain has escaped death before. He will be fine,” Joss interjected. "But it has been a while and he still hasn't come out," another spirit manipulator chimed in.
"Maybe there were more than one spirit-manipulated beast down there. "He must be in danger! If he weren't, the rope would have been still intact,” someone added. All of a sudden, the entire group of spirit manipulators fell silent.
"Maybe it's true that..." Thor whispered to himself. He had grown sullen from the amount of time Rocky had spent underground. It was not impossible he had run across some danger.
"Captain! Why did you leave us?" The whole squad bawled in unison. They mourned like there was no tomorrow.
Despite the commotion, Uriah lied calmly on the ground. It disdainfully howled at how big of crybabies these cowards were.
"Oh, for goodness’ sake, stop screaming.” A familiar voice emerged from behind them.
"Am I going crazy? I think I just heard our captain's voice.”
"I heard him too! Maybe he got lonely in the afterlife and wanted us to keep him company.” "Captain, please let us go. We will pray for your soul's repose. Just please don't hurt us!"
All the spirit manipulators were frightened upon hearing the voice of their squad leader, who they thought had already passed on. They were so terrified none of them was able to move.
"Now, all of you, please shut up and just please turn around!" The familiar voice roared again.
The spirit manipulators slowly turned around and found Rocky standing in front of them, safe and sound.
"Captain! You're okay?" Joss asked, pleasantly surprised.
"Were you guys praying for danger to befall me?" Rocky rolled his eyes at his subordinates. They all believed their squad leader had perished down there and were ready to burn ghost money if he wouldn't turn up soon enough.
"No, no, no! Not at all!" Rocky's underlings vigorously shook their heads in disagreement.
"I will be going now," Rocky coldly told his squad, turned around, and started walking away. Uriah followed at once.
"Captain, where is the treasure?” the spirit manipulators asked quietly.
"Did you think I was able to find any treasure down there? There's none. We will move on to another place tomorrow," Rocky casually replied. He left with Uriah at once.
All the spirit manipulators believed Rocky's words and followed suit without asking any more questions.
The squad finally wrapped up their patrolling task. Rocky asked Thor and Joss to lead the members back to the camp. When everybody had gone away, he went back to the village in the east and picked up Rubygon.
Rocky unraveled a Gehenna Border map and marked all the areas controlled by the northeast military camp. Starting from the eastern village, he studied all the possible places which dens of Dark Heaven Insects could possibly be in.
In finding dens of Dark Heaven Insects, Rocky had to go to places where the soil was fertile. Dark Heaven Insects needed fertile soil to feed on. This narrowed down the areas to be searched for. The areas under the control of northeast military camp mostly consisted of hard sandy soil. The fertile soils were mostly close to water sources. Soon enough, Rocky had narrowed his list to five areas under the control of northeast military camp.
But each of these areas was quite large and had intricate terrains. He needed to reduce the search area again.
Out of these five areas, three had swamps. These were the most likely hiding places for the Dark Heaven Insects since they had a preference for swamp water.
Rocky needed to go down there on his own to verify his hunch.
The following morning, Rocky tasked Thor and Joss to manage the sixth squad. He also went over to Sue's and handed over Rubygon. He started inspecting the places where Dark Heaven Insects might reside in. He only brought some tools and Uriah to help him with his hunt.
It was near, but it still took a while before Rocky reached it. They finally arrived at a foul-smelling forest. He knew exactly what it was: the Death Forest.
No life-form could be observed around this place. There was no grass at all, let alone trees or flowers. There were only wilted tree branches and muddy soil filled with unknown matters. To make matters worse, a thick fog engulfed the entire forest. The scene looked like it was taken straight out of a horror movie
Rocky knew this was home to a lot of wild spirit-manipulated beasts. He was very careful in searching, and Uriah did the same. Its ears were raised all throughout the search and its eyes remained vigilant, scouting their surroundings.
They walked cautiously around the Death Forest.
Rocky took note of the forest's terrains. As they moved forward, he couldn't help but think why they had not crossed paths with a Dark Heaven Insect yet. Dark Heaven Insects fed on the nutrients from the soil. Finding them in places with abnormally barren soil should be easy.
The Death Forest was so much larger that Rocky thought it would be. They were not able to locate any doubtful point immediately after entering, and even during their journey inside, signs were scarce.
"Guess I'll have to try my luck right now," Rocky uttered to himself, as he took out a vial full of magical saliva from his bag.
The magical saliva, just like spiritual crystals and Dark Heaven Eggs, released a special kind of spiritual power. Dark Heaven Insects were drawn to the scent of this magical spit and would come scrambling towards it.
Rocky put the vial down by the swamp bank. He then hid behind a withered tree tens of meters away, waiting for the spirit-manipulated beasts to come.
The entire afternoon had passed.
The Death Forest grew more menacing as darkness befell it. The atmosphere grew gloomier and more frigid.
"Maybe this is no place to find a Dark Heaven Insect,” Rocky blurted, disappointment clear in his voice. He had accepted defeat and was ready to leave when a loud booming sound came from far away.
