One month after the birth . . . .

” Anthea, can you throw me the lotion please ? ” I asked, turning towards her. She was dressing Kian and Kali, her son and my daughter at the other side of the room. While I was dressing Leo and Lena , my son and her daughter. It was pretty obvious from the get go who was mated to who. That first night of the babies being born , they wouldn’t settle to sleep until Devon threw out the idea of testing who was mated to who. We had laid them brother to sister and they hadn’t been happy with that. Since then, they have only been happy being beside each other. Before Anthea had the chance to throw me the lotion, it started floating through the air to me. Anthea looked at the babies she had , and I looked at mine. Shaking my head and smiling at Leo.

You could tell which baby was using magic. For some reason, we didn’t know their eyes would turn white when they were using their gifts . ” Leo stop being a show off “, I smiled at him . I went to lotion him first and he started wailing. Rolling my eyes at my one-month-old chivalrous son , I moved to Lena first to lotion her and he settled down. ” Happy now “, I grinned and lotioned my goddaughter first . ” Your going to have your hands full with him Lena ,, he’s a head strong little man. Just like his daddy “, Lena smiled in response and kicked her tiny little legs.

Anthea laughed, ” Kian , I was just about to get her a bottle. ” Looking over my shoulder, I saw one of the bottles we had prepared floating in the air but feeding Kali. ” He is never one to be out done in the making sure he looks after his lady is he ? “I laughed at Anthea. She looked back at me and shook her head. ” I am sure we are just spare parts here , and they would happily just look after themselves if we let them ” she complained. I understood it , most of the time it was like they didn’t need us. But come tomorrow, that will all change. We are binding the kids magic and their mating bond. So they couldn’t do the silly antics they do now.

” Let them get it in while they can ” I said sadly, looking back down at Leo and Lena. I swear for babies they were giving me understanding looks , like they knew what was to come and understood it. Anthea brought Kian over , and placed him at the side of Lena, then went back for Kali. Lying her down too. I finished dressing my two and went for the bottles but found them floating across the room. The door opened , Devon and Enzo walked in grinning and moved us out of the way so they could look down at the babies.

” Don’t get them all hyped up. We are settling them down for their naps ” I chided as Devon started, making his silly voice the kids loved so much. And Enzo was caught reaching in to pick his daughter up and my son knowing he couldn’t take one without the other. And Devon was reaching in for the other two. They both froze in their movements , you could see them warring with themselves. We ended up having all the kids’ cribs in the room at the side of their room and we took the room at the other side. Enzo had then had conjoining doors knocked through , so we could all get to the nursery when needed in the night.

” If you two pick them up , you two will deal with them ” Anthea warned. Both Enzo and Devon were looking at each other , no doubt mind linking. In the end, they both scooped up two babies and me and Anthea threw our hands up. ” Fine , we will be in the forest meeting the girls , come on Violet ” Anthea said, rolling her eyes at the guys who were already not listening to her. As we headed downstairs, the previous alpha and Luna walked into the pack house. Her face dropped. ” Have we come while they are napping ? “she asked, sounding disappointed. ” Nope, the guys came home just as we were getting them to sleep , now the babies are no doubt wide awake ready for play time ” I said smiling. I couldn’t really be pissed at them.

They would make sure they went down for their naps soon , they had to pack business to attend to so they didn’t see them as much as we did. They always tried to call back home at midday to see them. They must have just run over today. The grandparents’ faces lit up knowing they hadn’t missed them. Enzo’s father went bounding upstairs. ” Where are you two off to ? ” my chosen mother asked us. ” To the forest , to make sure we are all prepared for tomorrow “, Anthea told her. I think she could sense our sadness about it , because she came forward and pulled us both into a hug. ” It is for the best , and they will understand when they are older. ” She whispered to us , we both one arm hugged her back. ” We know ” we both said in unison , before letting her go.

When we reached the forest, all the girls were there waiting for us. I looked at Penny to see her cradling her growing bump and at Willow, who was there too. Shira had been waiting a while before her and Usif had children. They wanted the pride lands to be fully finished first. Rosie was there too. Smiling, I walked up to her. ” Your back “I said cheerfully, and drew her into a hug. ” I wouldn’t miss supporting you through this , my mate flew us all back here this morning ” she smiled. The triad had taken a trip to Rhiala’s secret location where she kept her hoard. Penny and Willow, along with their mates, agreed that while they were pregnant they would stay here , all the dragons now lived between here and their hoards now. Ryken and Enzo had agreed his thunder could build a home here. It was where they felt safe.

” Thank you ” I told her and she rolled her eyes. ” Like you need to thank me for this ” she huffed in amusement. ” Are we all set for tomorrow ? ” Anthea asked Dataneye. ” We are , we have all that we need. Me and the girls have been working on something too. We know you are both sad to break the mating bond. So , we came up with something ” she smiled at us and looked at the amazing women surrounding us. ” We adjusted the spell a little , we are confident we have it just right. It will mask the children’s mating , but we can leave a bit of the bond behind ” she announced.

Me and Anthea looked at her confused . ” What do you mean ? ” I asked her. ” Well , the spells we are casting will break when the children hit eighteen. By then we will need them ready. We also don’t want anything silly happening like one of the boys unknowingly getting a girl pregnant at a young age or anything. These things happen. And it could hurt their matings. So , we all spoke and we discussed that we should just push the girls to not shift until they hit eighteen. A spell to prolong them for a few months, gaining their wolves. Instead of masking the mating. They will sense they mean a lot to each other , but without the girls shifting, it can not be confirmed . But we would also need to lock their wolves back. They have them already and that could be dangerous too. Make them into normal shifters that don’t gain their wolves to confirm they are mates until they shift. It will keep the bond they feel in place , but nothing will be confirmed until shifting ” she explained. It was all a little confusing.

” So the feelings they have will be there , but nothing confirmed ? ” I asked and she nodded. “Basically, ” she answered. I looked at Anthea to see what she thought. And her eyes were glazed over so I knew she was conversing with Sianna. When she was done, she looked at me and nodded. ” Sianna says it is a good idea , it keeps them loyal to each other. “

” But that would mean we have to keep how we live now. The babies don’t settle at all without each other. If the feelings are there they’ll still feel the same “, I told her. And her face dropped. I realized how that must have sounded. ” Anthea , I don’t mean it bothers me, it doesn’t. I like living close to you , but it could mean no holidays or trips without each other. Living together until the kids are grown , we would need to see if our mates were OK with this too “, I told her , trying to convey what I meant properly.

” Well , the bond won’t be as strong as it is now. It will be muted some. So you might have some distance. It will be more like I feel protective and attracted to that person. Why ? Which could be passed off as a crush “, Dataneye explained. Anthea still looked a little sad. Grabbing her hand, I got her to look at me. ” Anthea , I love you . You know that , but we spoke about having our own space back before. That was all I was thinking. If you want space from us, get your home back to yourself. I did not mean it as I don’t like being around you “, I told her. She squeezed my hand. ” I know, Violet, we have practically been stuck at the h*p for over a year now. It seems odd we may get a little space is all ” she smiled. I got what she meant. After we spoke to the women and spent a few hours with them , we went back to find the guys.

We found Enzo in the living room with the babies , lying on the floor on the play mats with them. Devons walked into the room behind us carrying bottles. ” They’ve just woken up ” he told us. Sitting down, we told them the change in the spell we could do , and as we spoke about it the babies eyes were glued to us like they understood every word. And maybe they did , because to show us they liked that idea, all of their eyes went white and they did something amazing. All four babies started to float , one landing in each of our arms and when Kali landed in my arms, a vision played in front of my eyes. It was me, Devon , Enzo and Anthea. All on the porch of the pack house , watching on and smiling as four kids at the age of around six were playing happily. It skipped to where we looked a little older and we looked on disappearing as fours older kids walked up to us, heads down because they had gotten in trouble. A few more showed but one thing was clear, we were always together.
