Chapter 19

This morning went from pretty f*****g perfect , to a disaster in the pace of five minutes. Peter was staring daggers at me and at Enzo and Devon and I was standing frozen like an i***t. “I’m just going to leave you all to it “, Devon said. Enzo growled at the side of me. Devon was trying to make a backwards retreat. ” You will go f*****g knowhere asshat , where was you ? Or your sense of smell ? How did you not know he was here dickwad, ” Enzo growled at him. Devon put the coffee down and held his hands up. ” I was on watch all night and didn’t get any sleep thanks to you two. I needed caffeine and my sense of smell was wrecked for probably a few more hours thanks to Anthea getting a couple of lucky hits in on it yesterday. Plus, I’m distracted Enzo , you forgot the full moon tonight and I am horny , especially after a full night of sound porno you gave me “

” Shut up “I hissed at him as my face got redder with embarrassment and Peters did with anger. “Your not helping ” I said, sweeping my hand in Peters, direction. Devon glanced at Peter with no shame , then shrugged back at me. ” What ? Since when are wolves ashamed of getting it on or talking about it for that matter ? I saw Peter banging behind the weapon sheds just yesterday. “

” Do you know what Devon take off ” Enzo sighed and Devon grinned, picking up one of the cups and backing off. ” You know it makes sense Enzo , oh and your dad wants you. That Alpha has been in touch. And he wants you to do the opening speech for the run tonight. He’s going to announce the date “. With that, he turned and walked back off. Leaving us with one very pissed-off-confused-looking brother of mine. ” Lets all take a seat , this is not just a short explanation ” Enzo said to my brother. He sounded bored or annoyed with it. I couldn’t tell.

The reminder of that alpha coming made me feel even shittier. It’s not how I imagined spending our last day. Peter wouldn’t understand all of this. Enzo tried to grab my hand and I pulled mine away. I felt the walls already going up , the ones I was prepared to build. The ones that would semi-protect me from the hurt I knew I was going to feel. Enzos words back in the cave had just accelerated the process , so it seems. Enzo looked down at me , his eyes narrowed and I stared right back.

He rolled his eyes and stomped off into the cave , then came back out dressed and he went to the rocks outside of the cave, taking a seat . I followed at a slower pace , trying to work out how I would tell Peter all of this. When we were all sitting down, I looked at enzo and he was sitting looking like a spoiled child, his mouth grit shut. It looked like he wasn’t going to help with explaining this. Peter sat looking pretty much the same to be fair. ” Enzo is my mate “. I threw it out there , just ripped the bandage off and let the wound ooze. Peter’s eyes widened and he looked between us in disbelief. It seemed whatever assumption he had made in his own mind from what he had heard , wasn’t that one.

” What ? How ? I mean since when ? ” he asked and, I looked down. Saying all of this out loud meant I could wallow in denial any longer. I think I had not wanted to really think too much about it. Obviously, I knew my situation. But I think I had just chosen to only concentrate on certain parts of it. Like s*x. Mainly just the s*x. ” Since the night I first turned and he was there “I said quietly. ” How is that f*****g possible? If that was true and he’s your mate, the whole pack would know by now. You’re not wearing his mark . So stop f*****g lying and tell me what’s going on. “

I looked up at Peter , he was looking between me and Enzo. “I’m not lying, he is my mate , and I don’t wear his mark because we haven’t completed the mating. ” He looked between us both again , his eyes searching. Looking for the lie. ” But I heard you , and what Devon said. You and he have been, ” he pointed to the cave , but was unable to say the words. ” I know , we have been careful and using protection”. How f*****g embarrassing. To tell my brother all of this. He didn’t look any less confused , if not more.

” Peter, we are not completing the bond, in fact. He’s been looking for ways for us to break it. We have tried rejecting each other but it didn’t work. ” Ouch , pain stabbed at me saying it out loud. ” Why ? ” he asked, sitting back down. I looked at Enzo , hoping he would step in there. So I wouldn’t have to say it. He just looked away from me. ” Enzo please “, I asked him. He looked back at me. We looked at each other for the longest time , before he broke the connection. He looked at Peter. “I’m going to be alpha , and Anthea is who Anthea is ” he said simply. My heart broke into a million pieces. I think deep down I was hoping he would say something else. Why ? I don’t know why. I have known the reason all along. I think a piece of me had hope that us spending a week together and the fact his dad seemed to accept me would change his mind.

” WHAT IS THAT A f*****g JOKE “, Peter roared, standing up. Enzo did the same , his body tight. He looked ready for a fight. I think nothing would please Enzo right now , then for him and my brother to start fighting. Same for Peter. Jumping up, I got in the middle of where they had been walking towards one another . Holding my hands up at both of them and my head swinging back and forth between the two of them. ” NO STOP both of you no ” I shouted , but even though their advances at one another had stopped they stared, murderous at each other. “Enzo leave. I will explain all of this to Peter. “

He didn’t look at me , or act like he had even heard me. ” ENZO LEAVE “, I screamed at him. He glanced down at me , his face harsh. He snarled at me , then looked back up at Peter. ” You breathe a word of any of this to anyone , I will kill you and your brothers. Before I banish your parents out of the pack “, I gasped at his threat. Not recognizing the man who stood in front of me right now. This was a side of Enzo I hadn’t witnessed yet. ” Threat received loud and clear Alpha “, Peter sneered at him. Enzo snarled , his fists clenching at his sides. ” Enzo please just leave ” I said , my voice cracking.

He looked back at me. ” Be on the run tonight. We need to talk if you don’t show up. Believe me, when I say, I’ll find you. ” he wasn’t kidding , the promise was in his tone. He waited , watching me. Once I nodded my head, I would be. He looked once more at Peter. He then shifted into his big wolf. His clothes ripped around the beast’s big limbs. The wolf growled once more at Peter, then took off. Once he was gone , I let out the breath I had been holding. And hung my head. Once I had gathered myself and stopped the tears that threatened to fall. I lifted my head back up and looked at Peter. He was standing with his hands shoved into his pockets , still looking pissed. But , he also looked at me with pity. That killed me more than anything. The tears I had tried hard to hold back fell and I ran at him. Throwing myself into his big body and sobbed. His arms went around me and held me tight.

It took me a long time to settle down and tell him everything. He sat with different emotions flitting across his face as I spilled my guts. I didn’t blame it all on Enzo. It wasn’t all his fault. I also didn’t want to be Luna , it was so conflicting to want enzo to change his mind. But then I do not want him to because of what that would mean for me. Who would I have to become , if we did mate and he wanted to stay there in the pack. When I was done , Peter looked sad. All the fight drained from his body. ” Anthea , I don’t even know what to soya or how to comfort you. You, after all you have been through in life , you didn’t deserve this on top of all of that. What if he does bond with this female coming? What about you ? What will you do ? “

I hadn’t thought much about that. ” You would have to witness them together “, like I needed that reminder. I shrug, ” I am hoping when it breaks our bond I will feel indifferent to it all. ” He gives me a look that calls me on my bullshit. Peter knows me. Maybe the bond will be broken , but what about what my heart felt? I doubt a link would make that go away. “I’ll figure it out when it happens ” I say in reply to his dissaproving look. Standing up, I looked down at him. ” I need some sleep and a wash in the river before I go into the house smelling of our future alpha”. He follows me to the river not saying a word , he just turns his back as I strip off and jump into the cold water. I make it quick. Then I got out and pulled my clothes on whilst my body was still wet. It didn’t feel nice. But I had no choice.

It was as we were slowly walking back and we were near home he spoke. ” Why would you ask him to spend the week with you, Anthea ? Wouldn’t it have been best to keep away from one another ? Lessen the heartbreak you will no doubt feel, you have basically ripped your own heart out by doing this “. I smiled sadly at him. ” For just a short period of time , I wanted to feel normal ” I told him. ” Be damned with the consequences , plus ever try to resit your fated mate ?” He shakes his head and laughs at the silly question. ” Exactly , when you find her. Try to resist her for even a day and ask me that question again ” he throws his arm over my shoulder and hugs me to his side. ” Just to be clear, you didn’t sleep with Devon, did you ? Because what he said sure sounded like you did. ” I laughed and poked him in the ribs. ” Hell no , he and I were sparring yesterday, that is all. ” He pulled back and looked at me shocked “Where’s my sister and who are you ? I have been trying to get you to spar with me and you won’t. ” I pulled back and began to mock jab at him. ” That was pre Wolf Anthea. Apparently, I have potential now. And I don’t get tired like I used to. ” His eyes lit up and I knew I had f****d up. Peter would have me training with him every day now.
