Carol couldn’t sleep. She tossed and turned on her bed thinking about how she would break the news to David. A constant grin was pasted on her face. She sure was exhilarated. It took a long time for her to get too tired to stay awake and finally her eyelids grew too heavy to stay opened.

David on the other hand hunted a deer to satisfy his hunger and this time, he dug a deep hole in the ground and buried the left outs. What carol had told him had taught him a lesson. He should have cleaned up after himself in the first place. He washed himself and got ready to the best he can for carol to come and meet him. He used some herbs and flowers he found in the wilderness, to make himself smell good. Finn kept snickering in his mind, teasing him about his efforts to look good for carol.

“Oh shut up Finn. What is so wrong in wanting to look good when I meet a friend?” David retorted. Finn chuckled in his mind.

But I think you like her more than just a friend. Finn replied, making David roll his eyes. Here he was trying to groom himself and Finn has to tease him about everything.

The whole day seemed longer to David.

David chose to stare at the bright blue sky in the afternoon. He didn’t want to go out in to the scorching afternoon sun. The day was moving too slowly for David’s liking. He covered his face in frustration and g*****d. “Why does the time seem to drag when you are eager to meet someone?” he muttered to himself. Finn snickered in his mind but chose not to say anything.

David couldn’t help wonder what about what Finn was hiding from him. It was pretty obvious that Finn knows something and is not telling him. But what?

Finn? Dude. Is there something you are hiding from me? David questioned. Finn chuckled.

Come one, tell me. David urged. But Finn shook his head.

I can’t. You will know when it is time David. Finn replied and retreated to the back of his mind.

David closed his eyes and waited for evening to come. When the sun finally was close to set, he climbed down the tree, and waited for the young vampire princess to come to see him once again. They had met only two times, but those brief meetings were enough for her to successfully make her way to his heart. Now, his dreams were filled with her images when he slept and during the day, his time was occupied with waiting eagerly for their next meeting. He sat down near the creek, where he first met her. While his lips were curved in to a silly smile, his eyes kept counting the fish he saw swimming freely in the creek.

He took a pebble and threw it in to the water. Time elapsed, but there was no sign of the girl he was waiting for. David started to worry. He looked around and up in to the sky. The once blue sky was now painted red and orange, showing that the sun was going to set. Where is she? Did she choose to ignore him? His heart broke a little, but what the heck. His heart had been broken numerous times. He can handle this.

But what if she is in trouble? What if her father found out about her sneaking out and locked her up? This thought didn’t sit right with him. Even Finn started to stir uncomfortably in his mind.

Finn. Why do you think she didn’t come today? David asked his lycan. But Finn didn’t have a satisfactory answer. He too had no idea what could have happened to her.

I don’t know buddy. I just hope that she is fine. Finn replied.

The sun set after fulfilling it’s duty for the day, allowing the darkness of the night to spread in the enchanted forest. David, retreated back to a huge oak tree with a heavy heart and was about to extend his claws, so that he could climb to a high branch and try to get some sleep. But the sound of the rustling of the leaves caught his attention. He turned his head in the direction of the sound and used his wolf hearing and vision to find out what or who it could be.

There was a high chance that it could be a vampire, since it was already night. So he made sure that he had masked his scent, so that he would smell like a human. He listened carefully. Some one was certainly hiding in the trees. Whoever it was, was trying to be really quiet, but the sound of their footsteps cannot be unnoticed by a lycan. Soon, the scent of death hit his nose. Vampires! His eyes widened in realisation. He was being surrounded by vampires! He pressed his back against the tree and waited for them to make their appearance. He gulped and waited and sniffed the air. There was another smell mixed with the smell of death. A smell he loved. The one which he longed to smell. Pine. He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. Why was the scent of vampires mixed with Carol’s scent?

His eyes widened. Carol! Where was she? Was she with them. His heart started to race as he stared in to the dark woods, in anticipation.

“I told you! He is just a mere human!”

He heard a hushed whisper. That voice could only belong to the girl he had been looking forward to meet. He let out a sigh of relief. She was with them, and she is fine. Now what he had to do was wait for them to show themselves. Until then, he will have to act like a human.

Meanwhile, Carol was feeling impatient, hiding in the trees. She had tried to explain that he was a human numerous times but they still just wouldn’t believe her. Her father’s guards were being too much. Finally, after waiting for what felt like an eternity to Carol, she stepped out in to the open.

“David!” she called out. David grinned from ear to ear when he saw the girl whom he had been waiting for the entire day.

“I thought you were not coming today.” He said as the vampire guards stepped out of their hiding places.

Carol sighed. “What can I do? Daddy found out about me sneaking out. He had placed guards near my window so that I wouldn’t be able to climb down anymore.” She replied in frustration. “But he agreed to let you stay with us. Please come with me. I am here to fetch you.” She said and looked at the guards who were glaring at David. Carol rolled her eyes. She knew they would try to intimidate David. Her father must have told them to test him as much as they could, despite of her insisting that he was just a human, who possibly couldn’t cause any harm to them.

“Don’t mind them David. Daddy wouldn’t let me come here with out them. I am here to take you to the palace. Then I can spend time with you everyday.” She told him.

David took in a deep breath. It was a good thing that he had discussed this with Finn earlier. Even though he was advised by Finn to go with her, and despite him feeling attracted to the young princess, he was still reluctant to go to their palace. That place would be crawling with vampires. He didn’t want to cause any trouble. Even though he came in peace and doesn’t want to cause any trouble, he highly doubted that the vampire king would believe him, if he ever found out who David really was.

“Are you sure that this is a good idea?” David asked making Carol smile at him.

David’s heart skipped a beat. She looked even better when she smiled. He thought.

“It is ok David. You are there to be with me. I will protect you. If anyone dare bully you or threaten you, I will suck him dry.” She said casually.

“Well…. That is scary.” David muttered. Carol giggled and walked towards him and held on his arm.

“Now come on. Let’s go. With you in the palace, I wouldn’t have to get bored anymore.” She said as she started to pull his arm. “When we go there, we will buy you new clothes and other things. I will make sure daddy gets you everything you need.” She said.

David thought about it. “Will your dad do that for me?” he asked.

Carol nodded. “Of course he will.”

David smiled sadly as he thought about his own father. The lone tear that escaped David’s eye didn’t go unnoticed by the cunning eyes of the vampire princess.

“David?” she frowned. “Aren’t you happy that you are coming with me?” she asked.

“I am. It’s just that……. I thought about my own dad.” He told her honestly. Carol intertwined her fingers with hers and squeezed his hand.

“I don’t know about human laws David. But I have the confidence to say that those who hurt you won’t get away with that. They will have to face the consequences sooner or later.” She told him.

She paused for a while. She started to feel the anger and hate for those pathetic humans who dared hurt an innocent soul like David. “Do you want me to punish them David?” she asked in a low voice. David snapped his head at her in surprise. “What?” he asked. He was sure that he had misheard her.

“I said, do you want me to punish them? I can find them and completely destroy them. You don’t deserve to be driven out of your home like that. And whoever killed your grandma needs to pay.” She said, anger evident in her voice.

But David shook his head. “No. Not like that Carol. And you are right. They will pay for what they did somehow.” He said and walked forward with them towards the vampire palace.

His jaw clenched as he strengthened his resolution. One way or the other, he was going to come back stronger and make them pay for what they did. But for now, he was going to spend some time to think of a good way to get his revenge.
