Hailey lay beside Cade wide awake for a long time. She just couldn’t sleep. Different thoughts kept disturbing her until finally her eyes started to get too heavy for her keep them open. However, by that time it was already sunrise and Cade woke up to start his day.

After giving a bored look to his chosen Luna who slept beside him, he freshened up and left. When Hailey woke up, it was already almost noon. Frantically looking around for any signs of Cade, she ran around the alpha quarters in her night gown and soon realised that it has been quiet some time since he left. She looked at the untouched table that she had set for last night. Her eyes stung with tears she remembered how eager she was for that night. She was longing for him to come and hopefully spend some time together. After all, the pack duties have caused them to spend fewer and fewer quality time together.

However, it looks like that she was mistaken. Perhaps it was not only the pack duties that caused him to distance himself from her. Perhaps there was more to it. Frowning and gritting her teeth at the same time, she prepared herself and got dressed to barge in to the alpha office. She was not a toy to play with and throw away when he is done. He owes her an explanation. If it was something that she had done, she would try to correct it. She had tried to think of anything she could have possibly done to anger him, but she just couldn’t think of anything.

But if the reason was that he had found his mate, she would be damned if he chose some lousy she wolf over her. She had rejected her mate for him, why can’t he also do the same?

Huffing in anger, she stomped her way from the alpha quarters to the alpha’s office. Her loose hair swayed with the breeze as she took long, angry steps towards the office. Her white loose button up shirt and blue skinny jeans made her look sophisticated. She forced a smile and nodded in response to those who greeted her on the way and halted right in front of the office.

Taking in a deep breath, she put her hand on the door knob and turned it. To her surprise, it was locked. Furrowing her eyebrows together, she tried harder to turn it but failed. It really was locked.

“Luna.”

Hailey turned around to find Cade’s father behind her.

“Hello. Where is Cade?” Hailey went straight to the point. His eyes widened in surprise.

“He said he was going on a lunch date. I thought…..” he trailed off as a frown made way to his face.

Hailey was certain that Cade was hiding something.

“Tell me. With whom he went.” She demanded.

“I….I don’t know. I thought he was going out with you.” He murmured.

“Do you know where he went?” Hailey questioned once again. She felt her anger bubbling inside her. He was going out on a lunch date? With who? How dare he! He had left her alone on the bed the whole morning and now he was going out with someone other than her? She wanted to give him a piece of her mind!

“I…. I am sorry. I have no idea where he went.” He said, his eyes suddenly had a hint of sadness in it.

“Fine!” she stated and stomped away, thudding her footsteps on the floor and slammed the door to the room close.

She paced around in the room.

“Cade! I will find out what is going on.” She promised and frantically searched through her contacts to look for someone to contact.

Michael! She grinned from ear to ear. He sure will help her. He picked her call with in a couple of rings.

“Hello Luna.” He greeted.

“Hello. Where is Cade? Now don’t lie to me. I know you will be aware of his whereabouts.” She demanded, but, all what she heard was silence on the other end. After a long pause, Michael answered.

“I am sorry Luna. But alpha had ordered me to not tell you.” He said.

Screaming in frustration, she cut the call and slammed her fists on the table nearby. But then she had an idea. If they weren’t going to tell her, she will find out on her own. She opened her phone once again, but this time, instead of calling anyone, she started to trace them. It was a good thing that Michael’s phone had his GPS on. It showed her that he was in a restaurant which was on the outskirts of the pack boundaries. That was a place where wolves of the all the packs could meet. They would have an easy excess to that place since it was not deep in the pack territory.

“What was he doing there?” she smirked. “Time to do some detective work.” Murmuring to herself, she walked out of the room, determined to get to the bottom of this.

She casually walked towards the dense woods. She looked around before stripping and shifting in to her wolf. Her wolf shook her red fur and focused her eyes on the route within the trees. After making sure that she had secured her clothes around her hind legs, she ran all the way towards the outskirts of the pack where the restaurant was. Half of her hoped that she wouldn’t find anything that would hurt her feelings. She hoped that her suspicions was wrong. Maybe he came here to meet an important delegate.

In her wolf form she was able to run all the way in much shorter time than it would have taken her if she chose to come by car. In her wolf form, she could take the short cut with in the trees and that was the whole reason why she chose to run all the way. She hid in the trees and sniffed the air, trying catch any scent of Cade or Michael.

She didn’t have to wait for a long time. Her keen eyes spotted a familiar Audi parked in the parking zone. Then her eyes zeroed on Michael, who was apparently keeping an eye on who was lurking around. She waited still, hidden in the trees, hoping and praying that, they didn’t catch her scent in the air.

Soon Cade stepped out of the restaurant holding hands with a young blond. Hailey felt her heart skip a beat. She watched them k**s and say goodbye with her heart shattering and breaking in to tiny pieces. She carefully studied the woman and realised that she is the alpha’s daughter of the neighbouring pack. They had recently signed a treaty with them.

Was she his mate? She thought as her heart continued to break.

Cade bid her goodbye and watched her leave in her brand new Tesla. She could see, even from a distance, how elated and excited he looked as he watched her drive away. She couldn’t take it anymore. She quickly shifted back to her human form and wore her clothes that she had tied around her legs.

“Cade!” she screamed and dashed towards him, who was just about to climb in his car.

“What is the meaning of this?” she demanded. Michael’s eyes widened in shock when he saw his Luna angry and read to break anyone who would get in her way.

Cade froze at first, but then he relaxed and he gave her a nonchalant glance. He stayed silent for a long time before finally smiling at her. That smile only disturbed Hailey. Here, her life was in chaos and this idiot here is smiling at her? And while he is the reason for her mayhem?

“Cade! I am asking you something!” she demanded.

“What? I found my mate. I just couldn’t resist her.” Cade shrugged as if it was nothing to him.

Hailey couldn’t believe her ears. “What?!???” she gasped. She was right! Her instincts were right!

“Yeah. Now that I’ve found mine, I wonder how you were able to resist yours. You know your mate…. David.” He smirked sinisterly and turned around to leave.

“Oh you mean your best friend.” She also wanted to say something that might disturb him. “You slept with your best friend’s mate!” she pointed out and crossed her arms.

But Cade laughed as if he had heard the funniest thing ever.

“Really? I was able to because you let me. Now I have to go. I have important things to attend.” He smirked and climbed in.

Michael too followed him and climbed in the driver’s seat after giving her a sorry look.

“Go.” Cade ordered to Michael’s surprise.

“Are we leaving her here?” he couldn’t hold back his utter shock.

“She got here on her own. She will go back how ever she got here.” Cade leaned against his seat and closed his eyes. “Now go.”

Michael gave one last glance at the heart broken Luna, but then, he drove off, being compelled to obey his alpha.

Hailey, stood frozen on her spot. Her heart breaking and tears streaming down her eyes. Suddenly she started to regret rejecting David. Maybe she was being punished for being such a bitch. Wiping her tears away, she shifted back, ripping her clothes and ran through the forest, dodging the low lying branches and jumping over the fallen logs. She skid to a halt behind the pack house and shifted back. Not caring if anyone saw her, she ran inside through the back door and ran right in to the alpha quarters. There, she slammed the door close and cried her heart out.

“I am being punished. I am definitely being punished.” She sobbed as she slid down the door and hugged her knees.
