Rejected And Forsaken -
Chapter 9
David pov
Elder Barron’s eyes were wide and red with anger. I could see that he was shaking and trembling with rage. He pointed his index finger at me accusingly. “You are a freak, a curse and a bad omen. You have always been a disgrace to this pack and your family. I reject you as the alpha of this pack.” He screamed at the tope of his voice. Hailey snickered and stood up.
“I Hailey Spencer, reject you David Barton as my mate.” She said and smiled at Cade, who quickly put his arm around her waist. “I refuse to accept a curse and a freak as a mate. You look hideous David. I don’t want you.” She said and placed her hand on Cade’s chest, who smirked at me. There was an excruciating pain in my heart as she said those painful words. Finn was continuously howling in my mind. He was hurt and in pain, that his mate didn’t want him. I winced in pain as the stabbing sensation intensified as she walked away. She rejected me. My mate. My soulmate. The one who was supposed to love me and be my other half.
I felt my world come to a halt. I didn’t know what to feel. Hurt? Angry? Confused? Or all at once. The elders one by one left the meeting room. Cade’s father also left with them. Now what? I thought. Finn was of no help. He was still howling and whimpering. I slumped on to the seat and put my head on the desk. I no longer had the will power to do anything. I closed my eyes and sat like that to think about my life. Slowly, I felt sleep over powering me, and soon, I was in dreamland.
I was strolling through a green meadow. I looked around. Green grass was spread evenly and there were huge green trees at the far end of the sight. “Hey.” A gruff voice from behind startled me making me jump. I looked around to find a huge lycan with red eyes and black fur. “Finn?” I asked. He nodded and sat down. I sat beside him. Seems like it is a good time to talk and have a good conversation with someone I can really trust.
“It hurts.” He said before I could say anything. I smiled at him sadly and nodded. I know what he meant. It feels like being stabbed in the heart several times. “But we are stronger than that.” He told me, making me look in to his eyes. “Dad would want us to give up. You should just accept the rejection.” He told me. I frowned as I realised I didn’t know how to do that. Dad had taught me everything except the rejection part. He never told me about mates being rejected. Or how painful it was. He only told me how precious mates were. He told me that mates took care of each other and loved each other unconditionally.
I felt my tears stinging my eyes. “I miss dad” I whispered as I choked and looked at Finn, except that he was no longer there. He was gone. I took in a shaky breath and looked at the clear sky. What ever this place was, it was peaceful here. “Why can’t I stay here forever?” I asked myself.
“Because you have a lot of work to do.” Someone answered. Wait that is dad’s voice. I searched for the owner of that voice and my heart skipped a beat when I saw him smiling widely at me. “Daaad!” I gasped and almost stumbled as I ran towards him. He held me as I cried and gave me some comfort. “I am so sorry you have to go through all this David.” Came a female voice. I looked up. There was a woman with eyes like mine. She had a simple as she smiled, just like mine. I gaped at her in amazement. “M..mom?” I asked in a small voice. Her smile widened, and it looked as if the whole place just brightened up with her smile. “Hi baby.” She cooed and wrapped her arms around me.
I was stupefied. So many things were happening at once. I was overwhelmed with emotions. I was so confused that I didn’t know what to feel.
“Be strong David. Be yourself. You are on the right path. Don’t give in. And save the pack from the traitors.” She said. I furrowed my eyebrows.
“Traitors?” I asked and looked at them. They smiled and started to fade away. “Wait. Don’t go.” I pleaded.
“We must go now David. We can’t tell you much. You will know what to do. Follow your heart.” Dad said before completely disappearing in to the thin air.
I woke up with a gasp. I looked around. I was still in the meeting room. I sighed and leaned against the chair. When I looked through the window, I noticed that sun had already set. “Wow. I’ve been asleep for a long time.” I said to my self and stood up to make my way outside. I remembered that I had asked the chef to make a cake for grandma. So I took it to her room before retiring to my own room for the night. I was not going to work today. I was just too tired.
I barely made it to my room when I suddenly started to feel a painful stab in my chest. The pain only intensified as time passed. I clenched my shirt and gasped for breath as I dropped on to the floor in pain. It was so bad that could barely stand. What is happening Finn? I asked my lycan. He too was groaning painfully
Whatever this was, it was effecting him as well. Mate….. Mate…. He stuttered before going completely silent. I hugged myself and squeezed my eyes shut, hoping that the pain would go away. But the pain only worsened and continued to writhe in pain until finally darkness envelope my consciousness.
I woke up when it was early morning. And this time Finn was absolutely furious. Let me take over. He growled in anger and allowed him to. He stomped out of my room and towards the beta’s quarters. I watched eagerly what he was up to. He walked straight up to the beta’s room and pounded on the door.
“Open this damn door right now! Or else I am going to break it open.” He ordered. Cade opened it after sometime. Finn kicked the door, making him open it wider. My eyes widened at the sight inside. Hailey was sitting on his bed trying to cover herself with the blankets. It was pretty obvious what happened between them. “What do you want?” Cade asked irritated and looked in to our eyes. His expression soften a bit. “It is your lycan.” He sure was not happy with my intrusion. I am giving you the control. Now say that you accept her damn rejection and we wouldn’t have to put up with this bullshit. He said and gave me the control back.
I glared at the woman who was supposed to be my other half with hate and utter disgust. “I David Barton accept your rejection.” I practically spat those words out and I felt an unwanted burden being lifted off me. I turned around and walked away from them. They can be with each other if they please. I wonder what they will be doing when Cade finds his mate. I scoffed. It was not of my concern. I almost reached my room when I received a mind link. Alpha! High Luna is poisoned. She is now taken to the infirmary. My breath hitched and I took off towards the infirmary. How was she poisoned? Who dared poison my grandma? I was sweating profusely when I entered the infirmary. The guards who I had placed as her body guards were there. I grabbed one of them by his shirt. “How did this happen?” he looked at me in fear and gulped.
“Alpha. We were guarding her just like we always do. No one came in. Only you brought a small cake for her in the evening when you visited her today. She didn’t go out after that. And tonight, she was coughing out b***d and breathing heavily when she asked for help from us.” He said.
“She didn’t go downstairs for dinner?” I asked and they nodded. “She said that she would have the cake tonight and it would be enough for her. I let him go. My mind was invaded with different thoughts. Did the cake do this to her. But I had asked the chef to make it specially for her. And I had taken it to her personally. What happened? I was baffled with questions when the doctor opened the doors. I looked at him hopefully but my heart dropped when I saw his expression. “Alpha, high Luna has passed. I am sorry.” He said making me stunned. I staggered a little but I managed to sit down on a seat nearby. Grandma is dead? She too is gone? Now I am completely alone!
Then, I realised that she was murdered. Someone poisoned her. But who? I knitted my eyebrows angrily. Whoever did this is going to pay. You still have me pal. Finn said and I nodded. Yes. I’m glad. Let’s find who did this.
But before I could move, the five elders walked in to the infirmary, their grey robes swaying with their swift movements. I g*****d internally. Just what I don’t need right now. But I kept a neutral demeanour as they marched right up to me and surrounded me. A small crowd quickly gathered to witness the drama. I frowned. This definitely didn’t look good.
“I elder Barron, order to arrest you David for poisoning the high Luna.” He declared. I was shocked beyond words.
“What!” I screamed. “I didn’t do it.” I yelled.
Barron held out an envelop. “The reports says otherwise. The cake you gave her was laced with a poison made form liquid silver and wolfsbane. You are under arrest David. You are no longer the alpha of this pack.” He stated. “Guards!” He screamed. Two guards reluctantly held on to me.
I was fuming. I was breathing hard, with my heart pumping furiously. This week has been the worst week of my life. Being framed and accused of your own grandma’s death was far worse than being rejected by your own mate.
Let’s get out of here. Let me take over David. I will help. Finn said. I didn’t think twice before I let him take over. I quickly shifted and soon the guards who were holding me were thrown across the lobby. I knew everyone was probably staring and me. But I no longer care. I let Finn race out of the infirmary and towards the borders of the pack. I heard footsteps behind me, but good luck with that. There was no way in hell that they will catch up with my lycan. I was the strongest and fastest in my pack even in my human form and my lycan is just extraordinary. Finn ran until we were a good distance away from the pack boundaries before relaxing and letting me take over. I found myself in the middle of the thick jungle.
Looks like we have gone rogue Finn. I told him. He snickered. There will come a time when they have to pay for what they did David. But for now, let’s hunt. I’m starving. He replied. I agreed. I was famished. All that running had burnt out all the energy. I looked around for anything that we could eat when my eyes landed on a small deer.
Bon appetite. I said and jumped right on top of it. I didn’t loose a moment before slicing through its neck with my extended claws, killing it on the spot. Time to eat.
