Rejected, Broken And Forgotten -
Chapter 14
Walker’s POV
I look at Paris and realize she is not like Cecelia. Paris is down to earth, and she states facts. She does not look for sympathy, and I would not have known her story if it was not for Jeffrey, who keeps talking out of turn. I can tell by how she glares at him that she does not like her secrets out in the open. She does not trust me, and I guess she does not trust anyone easily. Can I blame her? Like me, she did not have parents she could count on when she was a pup. She looked after herself from age five, and her parents and pack did not care about her. She is strong, and I can tell by how she carries herself. The way she walks and talks tells me she is a fighter that is not used to being pampered. So she is not a pampered princess. It does not mean she will not get used to the luxury and wealthy lifestyle of the royals and will not enjoy it. I must be careful and guard my heart until I know what and who she is. She gets up and stares at me.
“What?” I ask.
“In what direction is the limo?” She asks.
“Listen, Paris. You need to relax and eat something before you leave,” I say.
“I am not hungry, and I have things to do. It would be best if you got on with your war, become King of Mercia so I can go home and forget about this whole bloody adventure,” Paris says.
“You are not going home until I say so,” I say. She is my mate, and she needs to be so damn stubborn.
“Yeah, I know I am your mate, and we will do the Luna thing before we go home. You know your pack will have to accept me first. I heard the Cloverfield pack does not allow just any wolf into their pack. They only allow very special wolves, or you must be of native heritage. Isn’t that true?” She asks.
“Yes, but you are a special wolf,” I say. I know she is because she is fearless, and only a powerful wolf can be bold and as tough as she is.
“There is nothing special about me. I am a warrior, and I want to fight. I do not want to sit and watch war and not be part of it,” Paris says.
“You are not getting involved in this war. Do you understand me, Paris? I do not want you near Oliver or John when you are alone,” I say. I know what lowly wolves John and Oliver are. Paris is beautiful, and they will try and get her into their beds. Yes, my despicable father likes younger she-wolves, and he is never faithful to his wife because they are not true mates.
“I will not get involved in the war if I can help it,” She says. I glare at her, but I know that is all I will get out of her. It does not help to argue with Paris. She is stubborn as f**k! I get up and start walking. If I do not let her go now, I will not let her go. I want to keep her by my side and protect her against everyone and everything that can hurt her. I know it is my instinct as her mate to do that, but I need to push my wolf back inside me and do what is best for our course. I need to get this war over so I can move on with my life. Can I love Paris? Only time will tell. I know I want her as my mate, and my wolf already adores her and her wolf, but my human side needs to be sure before I give my heart away again.
“Well, what are you waiting for? I thought you wanted to get to the palace and get this over with. I will try and end this war as soon as possible, but you need to tell me when Oliver and John will come to see the King. I will also have to see you every night, or our wolves will drive us crazy,” I say.
“I am coming. I hope the King will not see that I am not London and that he will not smell or hear the difference,” Paris says. I can see she is worried about meeting the King. I know King George. He may be old, but he is not stupid. He will realize she is not London in the first few minutes. I say nothing as I also know King George will not kill his grandchild, but he will be mad as f**k because they tried to fool him. Like any other wolf, the King will not like to be taken for a fool.
“Hmm, he will not hurt you even if he finds out the truth. King George is not as bad as everyone makes him out to be,” I say.
“I don’t know much about my grandfather. I only know that everyone that meets him has respect for him. I know he fought in the war until he got too old and wants peace as he does not want his people to suffer any longer, and that is the only reason he will allow London to marry Oliver,” Paris says.
“Your grandfather is one of the best warriors I have seen in action. He and his wolf are strong. I am sure he does not know that you are the oldest. If he knew, he would have taken you instead of London. Only the oldest child can inherit the throne. So, even if London became Queen, she would not have been the true Queen and would always submit to you. It is a kingdom thing, and the true heir to the throne is usually stronger than other wolves, but we will not know, as we will not put your fighting powers to the test. The reason why Oliver is not strong is that he is not the oldest child. I am. He was born after I was, but I am illegitimate and, therefore, can not inherit the throne. It is a long story, but my mother and John had an affair before Oliver was born, but not many know it,” I say.
“So you grew up without a mother and a father?” Paris asks.
“I had a mother and a father that cared for me, but they were not my parents. They had no relations to me, but they were great people,” I say. I do not like to talk about the two wolves I grew up with. It still hurts when I think of them, which is why I am here.
“Were? They are not alive anymore?” Paris asks.
“John and Oliver sent an assassin to kill me. I was not home and would not have intervened in their kingdom or war if their hunter-assassin did not kill the people I grew up with. I hate the royals and will kill all royals if I can,” I say. I don’t talk about it, so very few people know the real reason why I am here. I know some see me as a modern-day Robin Hood and others as their liberator, but I am just an Alpha of a pack in America that is here to avenge the death of the two people I cared most for.
“I am sorry that they killed your parents,” Paris says. I am glad she understands I saw Aldo and Dakota as my parents, not King John or Princess Alicia. I look at her, and I know she understands me. Cecelia wanted me to take the throne so she could be a Queen, and when I refused, she rejected me and became an actress.
“Thank you for understanding. You are the first she-wolf that does not call Alicia my mother,” I say. Many she-wolves only want me because they think I am a princess. I feel the danger before I see it. I grab Paris, and we hide behind a tree. I am pressing hard against her as I look at the soldiers walking past us. Wallis and Jeffrey, and the rest of their men are also hiding. They are King John’s men.
“I do not know why the King wants us to bring his future daughter-in-law to him. I am telling you we are looking for trouble. Princess London has permission to drive through Mercia,” One of the soldiers says.
“You know what a dirty old wolf John is. I bet he wants to warm her up for his son,” Another soldier laughs.
“Yeah, I bet he is,” The first one laughs.
“Well, she is not in her car, and I bet she ran into the rebel prince. We need to find her before King John finds out we were too late and that she went with Walker. He will be pissed off,” The other soldier says as they move past us. I feel Paris moving as if she wants to kill them, and I hold her tied. I also feel like killing them for disrespecting a she-wolf, but they were talking about London and not Paris, so I do not feel the need to protect my mate, but I know she wants to save her sister’s name. I have to hold her closer as she is stronger than she looks. She wants to talk, so I k**s her to shut her up, and I feel her stop struggling to get out of my grip. She relaxes against me, and every fiber in my body wants her. I will lose control and can not allow it with the danger so close to us. I m**n softly as I let go of Paris. The soldiers are gone, and I see Jeffrey and Wallis waving to us to go. I grab Paris’ hand and run with her to the limo. There are a few guards of King John at the car. We are standing behind a bush and looking at the soldiers moving around the cars.
“What are you doing here?” Paris asks in her fake accent. The guards look at Paris, who is standing behind them. How the hell did she get away from me? The guards spin around and smile as they see Paris standing behind them. I feel my heart almost stop beating. I am holding my breath. They will mind-link the other soldiers. Wallis and Jeffrey run to Paris. I start moving, but as I move, I see Paris kicking one of the soldiers and breaking another one’s neck. She grabs the other by the arm and throws her over her back onto the ground. She bends down and rips out his heart.
I move fast and stand back to back with her. We fight as a team, and the guards soon lie on the ground. Wallis, Jeffrey, their soldiers, and my soldiers are fighting the other soldiers of King John that came running when they heard Princess London is at her car. Paris and I run to where the fight is taking place, and I see Paris go straight for the two soldiers that were disrespectful towards London. I leave her as it is her fight. I know now she is not all talk. She can fight. She is a true warrior, and she is strong. I fight with my men against the rest, and I see Paris breaking one wolf’s neck while she rips the other one to shreds. She joins me as we fight the remaining wolves. I enjoy fighting with my mate. I never thought that I would be able to say that one day. I always thought my mate would be like Cecelia and unable to fight. I thought she would be all lady-like as that is the type of she-wolf that always liked me. I never thought my mate would be a true warrior Princess, and I am very proud to call Paris Sawyer my mate. The fight is over, and we gave King John’s army a hard blow.
“Wow, you can fight,” I say as I look at my mate with pride.
“I told you! I am not just a useless princess that wants to sit on my butt all day and be served,” Paris says. I smile at her as I take her face in my hands and k**s her on the lips.
“You will never be a useless princess in my eyes. You will always be my warrior Princess,” I say as I bring my lips down on hers again.
