Rejected, Broken And Forgotten -
Chapter 41
Third person’s POV
“I agree we should take out the airfield base first. I am sure the government will know what happened when they see the destruction, and maybe they will leave the wolves in this area alone. Or they could send in a lot of troops and kill us all,” Elena says, who brought a she-wolf with her, which is very good at technology.
“It is almost like an x-ray but does not work the same. It is a new technology, but it is all connected to a mainframe, and we need to jam their signals,” Jasmine says as she looks up at Elena. Samuel, Val’s son, can not keep his eyes off the she-wolf who is talking. He knows it is scarce for a hunter and a werewolf to be mates, and he might only find her attractive, but he also knows that it is unlikely for a hunter to find a she-wolf attractive.
“So we need to destroy their signal towers?” Samuel asks. He is also good at technology and understands what she is saying.
“Okay, we will do as you say, as I have no idea about technology, only about how to heal werewolves,” She laughs. Walker nods as he knows a lot about finances and stuff like that, but not much about technology.
“We will do as the two of you think is the best,” Walker says.
“We must buy time and keep communication with the main base. We will let them know that it would be better to move south as there is more activity, and we are moving the base. We will move the destroyed base south from here, and when they eventually come and look, they will think that something or someone attacked them far away from the Kingdom,” Samuel suggests.
“What about the airbase?” Walker asks.
“We will keep it intact and fetch our supplies as we always do. That way, they will not suspect anything. The hunters will run the base when you go to the states to see what the hell is happening there,” Val says.
“It sounds like a plan,” Paris says. They can not let humans know that they know about their plans and how they treat werewolves worldwide, and it would be better to take them out one by one in every country where they have bases and are aware of werewolves. They know there are countries in the world that still do not believe in werewolves and will not even bother to talk about it. Some countries are busy with civil wars, and others fight against other countries. The least of their problems will be werewolves, which they see as mythical creatures. Then there are the curious humans that will come and look for rogues and werewolves. They will worry about them later. Right now, their biggest concern is the human army and how to stop them. They are the biggest threat to werewolves at the moment. They can not allow the human troops to destroy packs of wolves, and they hope they are not too late, as some werewolf packs have started to disappear worldwide.
First, they must intercept the communication towers and put the devices out of order. They will ensure the communications show only human skeletons, not werewolves’ skeletons. They will also intercept all communications the base has with their main base and ensure the main base thinks everything is still going according to plan. Samuel and Jasmine get to work from their laptops. They will have to hack in without anyone knowing what they are doing. Mariam helps with her magic, and the humans have no idea what is happening. Magic can work on the human mind, but not on their technology. Or not what they know of, as no one has ever tried magic on technology.
Not that Mariam knows of, and she is unwilling to put them all in danger by trying her magic on human technology. She can, however, scramble the human brains working with the technology and make them not as alert as they will normally be. She ensures that the humans operating on the technology do not detect that someone is messing with their communication systems. Soon, the werewolves intercept all human communications. They decide to listen in and hear what the humans are up to before they take over the base communications and make sure they can not send any distress signals to the humans at the main base. They also want to ensure that the base has no other way of communicating with the humans at the main base and cut all cell phone reception. They know humans will not think much of it as cell phone reception is not good around here. They know humans will have a satellite communication system in case of an emergency, and they cut it off as the humans will not use it unless there is an attack on the base and all other communications are down. It costs a lot to use, and they only use it in emergencies. Val told them all of it as his men working on the base told him everything there was to know about the base. Not all armies and bases work the same, but that is how this one operates, and they know everything there is to know about it.
“We are all set. We have taken over the communication towers, and if you want to hear what the humans have to say, you can come and listen,” Samuel says. They all walk over to where Samual and Jasmine are sitting, curious about what the humans are planning.
“Operation Wolf to London,” A human voice comes over the radio.
“This is London. Go ahead, operation Wolf,” Another human voice sounds over the radio.
“Everything is quiet and good on this side. We had no problems with the hostages today. Over,” The first voice says.
“Good, keep us up to date. Everywhere it is quiet. Did you capture new wolves?” The first voice asks. One can hear them talk every day.
“Nope, not today. The wolves are getting less here,” The first voice says, and it fits into the werewolves’ plans.
“Okay, enjoy nature and keep safe,” The second voice says. They will have to listen to the humans talk for a few days to ensure they can talk in the same manner, so the humans at the main base do not get suspicious. They decide to watch the base while waiting a few days to see what the humans do and how they operate. They also want to see how they get their hands on wolves and who is betraying them, because someone must betray them to get werewolves from the towns and within the Kingdom as their captives. The werewolves are on high alert and know they can not trust anyone. So only a few they can trust are aware of the operation they are launching. Is it one of the old kings or queens betraying their own kind for money? It is not impossible. Or is it one of them that is there, and will they try to warn the humans about what is going on? Jeffrey, Elena, Paris, Walker, and Val walk away from the rest. They need to talk alone as they know there is a traitor somewhere. Who is the traitor, and will they be able to catch them?
“I know we have a traitor selling out the werewolves, but who? Who can we trust? Can we even trust each other?” Val asks, as they are out of range from the others to hear them.
“There is only one way to find out,” Elena says. She trusts her she-wolves and needs to use one of them to show them the traitor, and she calls Mariam to join them. Mariam knows what is going on as she also feels they have a traitor and must be of high rank. She hopes and prays it is not Jonathan, as she is already in love with him, and her wolf will die if it is him.
“Can you do your magic and discover who is betraying us?” Elena asks.
“I can, but I am so afraid to do it. What if it is someone we love?” Mariam says.
“Maybe they have a reason for doing it, or they have a love one in the grip of humans,” Elena says.
“I will have to do it for the good of our kind,” Mariam says. She hopes and prays again that it is not someone they know and love. She places blocks with the alphabet letters on them in a circle. Then she strengthens herself for the answer as she knows some will not like the outcome of the answer. She starts praying to the Moon Goddess for a truthful answer and then starts chanting. They all know it can not be Paris or Walker, as they are too new to the Kingdoms. They know it must be someone who has been living here for a long time. As Mariam is about to do the spell, she hesitates as she already knows who the traitor is. She knows it will shock a lot of the wolves, and she feels she can not do it, but on the other hand, the wolves should know who the traitor is, so they do not trust him as much as they do. Luckily, she can postpone it as one of the generals runs to the group.
“Some human troops are moving out, and they have the devices on. They are moving in the Kingdom’s direction, and we must stop them. Samuel and Jasmine are in control of the devices, but we never know if someone is working with them,” The general says. He even thinks someone is working with the enemy and can not take chances.
“How many troops are moving out?” Walker asks.
“Enough to take out a village! It must be someone that knows we took the rogue out of prison or someone that is here with us and has a way to communicate with the human troops. Or they must think the rogue escaped from prison. There are so many that can betray us,” The general says.
“We have no time to lose. We need to stop them before they get to our villages, but we also need them to use those devices as they will think they got false information,” Paris says.
“I think we will follow them, and if they attack the village, then we know it is someone with us. If they do not attack as they think the villagers are humans, we know it is not someone here with us,” The general says. They can not tell him they are about to do a spell to show who the traitor is. They follow the general’s plan and the human troops at a distance.
“We can not put people at risk, and let us pretend to be hikers and see if they can tell we are wolves,” Paris says. And the rest agree, and they run to get in front of the convoy.
They are walking along the road when the army vehicles pass them. The soldier stops them and asks them to turn around and go back to where they came from, as this is a restricted area.
“What is wrong, officer?” Paris asks.
“We come here to hike every year, and we never had problems before,” Walker says.
“Well, it is difficult to explain. There have been a lot of missing cases in this area lately, and we suspect a serial killer or wild animal responsible for it,” The officer lies. They know he is lying and that the ones with them are not traitors. But who is the traitor, and why is he sending the human troops to a werewolf village? They know the town the troops are heading to, and all the ones living there are werewolves. Shall they take out the humans now or wait to see what they do when they come to the village and see that their devices show all the inhabitants are human? They do not want to kill humans unnecessarily. They are protectors of humans, after all.
