Rejected, Broken And Forgotten -
Chapter 56
Walker’s POV
I am proud as I see how the pack cheers on Paris and me. She looks so graceful on the back of the white horse and looks like a Queen of old. My mate is beautiful, and her hair looks like the stars in the night sky. It was the first time I noticed that her hair had changed. It had become lighter and was now almost shining white. It looks nearly the same color as that of Daylight, the horse she is riding. I look at my reflection in the window of the packhouse and am surprised to see that my hair is also darker, almost the same color as Midnight’s, my horse. I wonder why our hair has changed, and I know she will no longer look like her twin. She is stronger, and I think it has something to do with the Moon Goddess blessing us to become King and Queen of the werewolves.
“The Queen is beautiful,” I hear one of the younger wolves say, making me even more proud of her. She is a beautiful creature, and I can not even think I have lived so long without her. She is laughing and enjoying the ride. She and Daylight stop, and Daylight kneels so Paris can get off gracefully. I jump off Midnight and walk over to my Queen. Two young wolves take the horses to cool them down. We rode them bareback, but they ran so fast and were so excited that they were a little hot. We know that horses need to cool down after a good run. I enjoyed it, and I can see Paris enjoyed it even more than I did. I take her hand and walk into the packhouse, where the elders are waiting for us.
“King, Queen, welcome home. We know this is your second home and that the Kingdom is now your first home, but we know we are part of you and will support you all the way. What can we do to help you on your mission to save the wolves?” Melody, one of the elders, asks.
“First, we need to know everything you know,” I say. Melody and the other elders keep staring at us as if we are something out of this world.
“You are indeed two special wolves. I have never seen a more beautiful couple in my days,” Bianca, another elder, says. Paris blushes and looks at me with all the love she has in her heart for me.
“Thank you, I think your Alpha is the best thing that ever happened to me,” Paris says. I smile at her and k**s her hand.
“You are a blessing to me,” I say.
“Ah, young sweet love,” I hear a bitchy voice coming from the back and look into the face of Vera, a young she-wolf says. She has no mate, and we were friends when we were young. We always joked that we would become mates one day if none of us could find a mate. Cecelia was her best friend, and I think she is not happy that I found another mate. Maybe she was the reason Cecelia rejected me, but who knows? I do not care. Vera is a b***h when it comes to other she-wolves, and she is very jealous. Vera is not bad looking, but she has nothing on Paris.
“Vera, go do your chores, and do not talk to the King and Queen like that,” Bianca says. She is like the mother of the pack, and she is the highest ranked among the elders. Vera glares at us as she walks out, and Paris looks at her and smiles.
“I think Vera is a little jealous, but maybe she will find a mate soon and be happy like us,” Paris says.
“Yeah, she always wanted to be Walker’s mate, but it could never work as she is not good enough to be his mate. Walker needed a strong mate, and Cecelia and Vera were both not strong enough for him,” Bianca says.
“Well, that is in the past, as Walker is my mate now, and we are happy,” Paris says. Bianca smiles happily as she can hear that Paris will not let anyone come between us or try to break our mate bond.
“Well, I think Ace told you everything we know. We have gone into the parks and tried to help some dogmen, but they are very aggressive, and we can not get close enough to them to help them,” Bianca says.
“We have one of the dogmen we helped, and he found a mate with us. He is just a normal wolf now. Humans let a normal werewolf scratch or bite the human soldier to turn them. Then they plant a device into the human brain that is now a werewolf. When they activate that chip in the brain, the human part of the wolf is switched off, and he becomes like a rogue,” I explain to them what Peter has told me.
“So we need something to get those chips out of their brains or deactivate them?” Bianca asks.
“Yes, we removed the chip from Peter’s brain, and he is now a werewolf,” Paris explains.
“Hmm, I think I know someone that can help us with that, but he is a grumpy human, but he knows a lot about human technology, and he will know about chips they plant into the human brain and how to deactivate them,” Bianca says.
“Will you take us to him to talk to him?” Paris asks.
“Yes, but do you have the chip they took out of Peter’s brain?” Bianca asks.
“I have it. We did not plant it into a rogue as we wanted to. We created another one and planted that into the rogue. Samuel used the code that was on the original chip that I had. I took this one because I knew we might get help with it here in America,” Peter says from the back. He holds up a little bottle with a chip in it.
“Good, I am glad we brought you with us, Peter,” I say.
“I thought we could get help with it here in the states, which is why I brought it with me. Samuel agreed that our chances of getting help with the chip are better here than there,” Peter smiles happily that he can also do something. I can tell by the look on his face.
“So let us not waste time more and go to grumpy old Henry. He used to work as a scientist for the human army,” Bianca says. I can see she is not sure this Henry guy will help us, but we can try.
We go to the SUV, and Ace is driving us. We go deep into the woods and come to an old cabin. Around the cabin, everything looks like an old scrap yard. He is staying on our land, and I do not mind as he obviously does not like humans and is causing us no harm. As we stop, an older man comes out of the cabin with a shotgun. He looks at us and frowns.
“I bought this property. Get off my property!” He shouts.
“He did buy this little piece of land from us, and we allowed it as he is not bothering us,” Bianca says.
“I do not mind, but he is pointing a shotgun at us,” I say.
“He will not use it. He only points it at us because he wants to scare us,” Bianca laughs.
“I can hear you talking about me, Bianca! I am not that deaf yet,” Herman shouts.
“We need your help, sir. Please, we know you are a scientist and that you used to work for the army. They are placing all humans in grave danger, and we need your help,” Paris says.
“What about you, wolves? Are you in danger as well?” He asks. So he knows about us.
“Yes, we are in danger as well, and it is all the human army’s fault,” Paris says.
“What are they doing now?” Henry asks as he lowers his shotgun. Although he looks grumpy, he invites us in and does not want visitors. We walk into his cabin, and I am surprised to see how neat his house is inside.
“So tell me all about what the bloody army did this time,” Henry says, still looking grumpy.
“They are creating dogmen, as they call them. Then they plant chips in their brains to take away the human side to a werewolf creating wolves more violent than rogues,” I explain to Herman.
“Typical. Do you have one of these chips so I can see how they are made?” Herman asks.
“Yes, I have one the wolves help to take out of my brain,” Peter says. He then tells Herman what the humans did to him and gives him the chip.
Herman looks at the chip and then leads us down a staircase that he hides behind a cabinet. We walk to what looks like a lab, and he puts the chip under a microscope to look at it.
“Hmm, I will need a few days to figure this out,” Herman says.
“But you will be able to help us, right?” Paris asks.
Yes, Queen of werewolves, I will be able to help you, but I need time and quiet around me, so you can leave while I figure out how to deactivate these chips,” Herman says in his grumpy way.
“How do you know so much about our werewolves?” Paris asks. I can see she is as surprised as I am about him calling her the Queen of werewolves.
“I have studied you for years and know everything about your legends and what they say. Now leave and let me help you as you have helped humankind for many decades,” Herman says.
“Okay, we will leave. Thank you for helping us,” I say, as I do not want to piss Herman off any further.
“King of werewolves, I can only try to fix what my kind has broken,” Herman says as we walk out.
We leave Herman so he can do his job. As we walk outside, we can feel that we are being watched. I sniff the air and smell the humans watching us. Luckily, we have the devices we brought from the Kingdom. We know they are scanning us to see if we are wolves. We already gave the pack one each, so we pretended to be humans.
“Damn, why is the old man so grumpy? We only asked for donations as he is staying on Native American land, and it is only to help the Natives,” I say. The rest catch on quickly, and we act like we are from a welfare organization. I can hear humans as they whisper among each other.
“They are not wolves, sir, and they are just human, and they wanted a donation from old Herman,” A soldier says.
“Well, damn, it is a wonder he even invited them in. He has gone crazy since he left us,” The general laughs. We get in the SUV and drive away.
“I wonder why they are watching Herman?” Paris asks.
“Maybe because he was one of their scientists, and they think it is better to keep an eye on him,” I say.
“Yeah, maybe they are watching to see if someone comes to him for help, like werewolves. Maybe he has worked with werewolves before, and that is how he knows so much about us,” Paris says.
“Well, at least he is willing to help us,” I say.
“Yeah, even if he is a little grumpy, I like him,” Paris says.
“You will like anybody, Queen. You have a good heart,” Bianca says and laughs.
“I am not always good-hearted, and I can be a b***h sometimes,” Paris says. Bianca and Ace laugh. I can see they love Paris and the way she is. She will say a thing as it is, and I wonder about Bianca and Herman. Is there something between our oldest elder and the grumpy older human man?
