Chapter 108

Special Chapter: Zephyr’s POV

Astonishment.

That was the only thing I could feel when I laid eyes on her for the first time in four years. The woman I had been looking for for so long, she was right in front of me and my brain froze, I couldn’t even think of anything.

For the first time ever, I felt intimidated, she was beautiful, drop dead gorgeous in fact. She wasn’t the battered and skinny girl I had banished, she was more. She looked no less than a queen and it was breathtaking.

My heart skipped a few beats as I stared at her from head to toe, unable to control my expression. Words couldn’t even form no matter how hard I tried, I just wanted to revel in this moment and I never could have guessed what happened next.

She spoke.

“Good day Alpha. As you know, I’m an envoy from the Kizmet pack. I’m only here for one task and we are both aware of what it is. An unfortunate incident happened recently, your group was attacked while on a hunting trip and as a result, you lost some of your best warriors and I understand how devastating the situation must be. So I’m here as a representative of my Pack to find out how we can be of assistance to you in this difficult time.” Upon hearing those words from her, I was left aghast and couldn’t control my expression no matter how hard I tried.

Is this a dream or did a miracle happen? As far as I know, Evelyn has been mute from birth, she was the same girl who couldn’t even utter a whimper whenever I beat her up, she wasn’t even able to cry out. She was always so pitiful and the demon in me turned me to a beast who sadistically enjoyed preying on her helplessness. But now she’s standing in front of me, not only looking beautiful and confident but she can speak fluently as well.

I don’t know how it happened but I’m just grateful and glad that she’s finally able to speak just like the rest of us. It was because of her disability that she was accused of the worst crime and punished thoroughly for it despite being innocent.

The woman in front of me has never done anything but she’s suffered a lot because of me. She’s flawless and she’s perfect and my heart yearns for her and so does my wolf. I take a short deep breath and try to act natural.

She maintained a formal stance, looking undeterred. Her expression says it all, she hates me and she has every reason to.

I instantly become nervous and I don’t even realize when I begin to stutter like a fool.

“I….. I…. Yes.” I stammered and cleared my throat, trying my best to get a grip on myself. I was fascinated by her but at the same time, I was a nervous wreck. For years, I had been hell-bent on finding this woman.

Five minutes ago, I would have been ready to sacrifice anything just to get the chance to meet her again, I didn’t want to believe that she was dead because of me but now that she is miraculously in front of me, I don’t even know what to do, my mind isn’t thinking properly, I’m feeling all fidgety and the fierce look in her eyes is making me swarm with guilt. I instantly recall all the terrible things I did to her and I begin to hate myself all over again.

I know that I’ve committed grave sins that can’t be forgiven just by apologizing but still I hope I can be able to earn her forgiveness, I want her back so badly.

I take a deep breath before speaking up, I mustn’t forget that I’m in an official meeting so I can’t let my emotions get in the way of my duties as Alpha.

“I really appreciate the kind gesture from the Alpha of the Kizmet pack, not many people would do that which he’s doing now and it’s very commendable. I…I would also like to thank you for taking the time to come here.” I appreciated the aid and she seemed stunned for a moment. She probably still thinks I’m the old Zephyr who was a sadistic bastard and I don’t really blame her. Once a white cloth is stained with black ink, it’s always difficult or sometimes impossible to get rid of the blemishes. I’ve changed and I’ll just have to prove it to her.

“Yes, it is my duty and I’m only carrying it out.” She remarked with a smile that didn’t quite reach her eyes. I can tell she feels suffocated with me and would do anything to be away from me and though the fact hurts me, I have to accept it. The only problem is, as much as I want to respect her decision, I just can’t let her go, she’s my mate after all. I’ve lived too long without her by my side and I’m going to remedy that no matter what. If I can’t have her, then death would be a better punishment than having to live the rest of my life in self pity and deep regret.

I have to keep her in this pack for as long as I can or maybe until I’m able to earn her forgiveness.

“Of course and it’s very kind of you. As regards to the type of assistance we need, I’m sure that will be discussed in due time but for now, I suggest you and your escorts have a good rest. I know it has been a long journey, you must be tired and need to rest. Besides, you’re my guests here so you must be treated properly. It is a habit of the wolves of Crescent Moon to treat our guests like family.” I said warmly and she frowned.

She really does hate me a lot, I can see it in her eyes and feel it from her body’s reaction. The sight of me disgusts her and the thought of it, hurts me deeply. So this is what it feels like to be rejected? It’s a terrible feeling that hits you straight into the heart, tugging at your weakest spot. It’s unbearable and my wolf is raging and whimpering within me, I just want to break down and punch something. I’m willing to do anything, anything to get rid of this lingering pain that is torturing my soul.

I feel tears gather at the edge of my eyes when I realize something, this is the same pain that I had put her through four years ago. So this is what I had made her feel. This despicable feeling of being unwanted and worthless. I had caused her physical injuries and even sexually assaulted her despite the fact that she was my mate. As if that wasn’t enough I was foolish enough to make her go through the pain of rejection. I don’t even know what punishment will be good enough for me, I’m willing to take whatever punishment comes my way as long as I can get her back. She is the only thing I desire.

A strong short laugh caught my attention once more and I instantly looked up to see her speak again. “I love that policy, it’s quite welcoming but I really don’t think that would be necessary. You see, I’m on a tight schedule and I really just want to finish my task here so I can begin on my other duties as soon as possible. As for the journey, it wasn’t really that long and I’m not tired, I think it would be best if we had the discussion today.” She pushed with another fake smile. My hands gripped my throne until it hurt, enduring the hatred of the one you love is immensely difficult but still, I have to keep it together. I can’t afford to make any more mistakes or I might actually lose her forever this time.

“I would agree with you but what’s the rush? Your pack is doing so much for us and the least I can do is treat you like a queen during your stay here.” I tried to coax and her reaction told me she wasn’t buying it.

I was just about to lose hope when goddess Selene showered her mercy on me and Evelyn finally gave in, albeit reluctantly.

“Alright, if you insist. We’ll rest early today but I would really appreciate it, your Highness, if tomorrow we could talk about the task at hand.” She said with another artificial smile. Now that I think about it, I’ve never seen her smile happily. I guess it’s because I’ve never given her a reason to smile, I only caused her pain every time she came in contact with me but that ends today. I’ll make her smile a happy and genuine smile no matter what it takes and this will be my first task.

“Of course but it’s good to have a proper rest now. The maids will show you to where you’ll be staying during your time here, I sincerely hope that the arrangements are up to your taste. Do let me know if you need anything.” I said and she took a slight bow.

“Thank you, your Highness, you’re too kind. I look forward to a productive meeting with you tomorrow. Have a nice rest Alpha.” She replied and turned back towards the door, ready to leave and I wanted to stop her so badly, to go over to her and hug tightly, to never let go of her. Kieran nudged me to do it and her name was at the tip of my tongue but on second thought, I suddenly stopped myself.
