Rejected By My Mate, Chosen By Fate -
Chapter 40
Special Chapter: Kayden’s POV
Richard and I arrived at the entrance of the room, where the others were still waiting in apparent trepidation.
Richard went straight to Elsie and took her in a warm hug, much of which she relaxed into. I feel sorry for her, she’s been having health issues lately and when it seems like she’s finally recovered, this just had to happen, putting a new type of strain on her.
“Is it over? Has Evelyn given birth?” I questioned, already knowing the answer but still daring to ask.
“No. The doctor says she hasn’t even gone into labor just yet and it’s already been a few hours but she’s been in pain all this while, probably due to the poison and though we can’t hear her screams of pain, we all know just how much pain she must be in right now. I just wish I could take some of it away, she really doesn’t deserve this.” Elsie said and broke into a fresh round of tears.
I had never seen her so sad and petrified before. Richard tried his best to comfort her. “It’s alright Elsie, everything is going to be fine. I’ll make sure of it.” He promised while Elsie sniffed. Ana just sat quietly in a somewhat shell shocked state. I could only imagine what she was going through right now. Despite the severity of the situation, the fact that Evelyn’s foster family cares for her so much more than her biological family ever could, really warms my heart. It’s the only thing that stops me from going against Richard’s orders and attacking Alpha Turner.
A sudden wave of pain hit my head like a storm in the form of a blinding headache. My hand instantly came to my temple and massaged it softly. It was so sudden that I instantly realized that it couldn’t be normal.
I had felt it as clear as day when I had first thought Evelyn went into labor, the pain she felt had bred so much anger in me that it took a lot to master restraint.
So could this sudden headache mean something? Was it her way of calling for help through our invisible bond? Was she in a terrible state or had her condition worsened? My worries doubled instantly and as they did, my headache also did the same. I instantly knew I couldn’t just sit back and fold my hands, waiting for some miracle to happen.
If goddess Selene truly wanted to help then she would have somehow stopped Evelyn from drinking the poison which catapulted her into this state. I don’t care what the doctor has to say but I’ll have to do whatever I can to support the one I love and make sure that she stays alive and safe as well.
I made for the door but just then, the doctor came out, a petrified look on her face.
“Doctor, is she OK? Is everything fine now?” I questioned quickly. “No, not really. It’s actually far from it. After the induction, she seems to be experiencing uterine atony and she’s bleeding quite a lot. If this continues, she might not have enough strength to deliver the child and since the baby is premature and still very much delicate, he or she might not survive such a strain.” The doctor said, further killing our hope.
“Can anything be done to improve her condition? Doctor, you have to save her no matter what.” I said, my heart feeling like it would leap out of my chest any second.
“Is her mate present, perhaps?” The doctor asked suddenly, taking all of us by surprise.
“No, why is her mate needed?” I questioned, an unplaceable feeling growing within me.
“In her condition, she really needs her mate’s b***d. If she could get some b***d from her mate, it’ll greatly help her condition. She needs b***d and some intravenous therapy so she can deliver the baby safely and it would also help to have her mate by her side, for moral support. Having her mate by her side during a difficult time like this can be a shewolf’s greatest source of strength so with that said, the only thing she needs right now is her mate.” The doctor said and a wave of anger washed over me.
The bastard who was supposed to be Evelyn’s mate had raped her, rejected and thrown her out of the pack and by rejecting her, he’d broken any bond which they were supposed to share so he had no right to be called her mate anymore.
And even if he hadn’t rejected her, I would never let him come anywhere near her as long as I can help it.
Ana was just about to speak up when I intercepted her. “I’m her mate.” I spoke up quickly and immediately I said that, I could feel everyone’s eyes instantly on me as if I had said something wrong. I already consider her mate, mate pull or no mate pull. The special bond we share is undeniable.
“What are you saying Kayden? Doctor please pay no attention to him, her mate isn’t here. And he can’t help her right now.” Richard said, directing his eyes to the floor as he said the last part of the sentence.
“OK, is someone from her family here? I mean her biological family, like her father, mother or a sibling?” The doctor questioned and I tightened my fists. It’s really funny how the situation is bringing something else to light, I can’t imagine how lonely Evelyn must have felt all this while.
Everyone she had known as family had abandoned her and I just can’t imagine how the feeling of loneliness must be. I’ve experienced it for only about an hour and I feel like I’ll go mad if this continues. It’s little wonder why she’s always so insecure and thinks she’s not good enough when the people who were previously in her life were actually the ones who didn’t deserve her. This strengthens my resolve. After this whole episode, I’ll do everything in my power to always keep her happy.
“Then I’m sorry but there’s not much I can do for her. She needs the b***d and if she doesn’t get it soon, either from a member of her family or her mate, I’m afraid she won’t make it. But I’ll keep trying my best and by the goddess’s grace, a miracle might happen.” The doctor said and went back into the room.
