Chapter 48

Special Chapter: Kayden’s POV

The more I listened to her speak, the more confused and angry I got. How could all of this have happened without my knowledge?

“You bastard, I blindly trusted you and did everything I could to maintain the friendship between our packs so how could you have done such a terrible thing to my daughter behind my back? I promise, you’ll pay for this.” Alpha Turner raged but we all ignored him. I couldn’t bring myself to believe a single word Margallo had said. She has to be lying, she definitely has to, Richard would never do something like that. I trust him completely.

I waited patiently for her to finish what she was saying so I could contradict her and tell her to her face that she was lying but Elsie beat me to it.

“Richard, is all of what she has just said true?” Elsie questioned, her voice full of hurt. The lone tear that fell down her cheek was unmistakable.

Richard desisted from saying anything which made me so angry and upset. He knows that we would all believe anything he says, he knows that we would believe him over Margallo if he just denied everything so why is he not saying anything? Why is he allowing her to accuse him of such vile things? Why isn’t he denying any of her accusations? Why? These questions flooded my mind.

“He won’t answer you Elsie, he’s too ashamed to speak. He cannot deny any of what I just said because it was all the truth. He betrayed me so I had every right to take revenge on him, I had every right and every reason to end his life.” Margallo said and Elsie screamed at her.

“Shut up! Just shut up! I allowed you to speak. I gave you a chance to tell us how Richard had wronged you, now just please keep quiet. I don’t want to hear a word from you. I only want to hear from Richard. He has to tell me if any of this is true.” Elsie said and all our attention was directed at Richard once more.

“Come on, speak up. Is she telling the truth?” Elsie asked Richard harshly, this is the first time I’ve ever seen her angry or raise her voice to anyone. She always seemed so meek and seeing her so angry increased my already existing anger.

I trust Richard with my life but if he’d really done everything that Margallo said he did, then I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to forgive him. How could he have hidden the fact that he was previously involved with my mate from me for so long? For Selene’s sake, they were even going to have a child together and Richard didn’t see it fit to tell me such vital information.

“Are you really doubting your brother? Do you really think he did everything Margallo said he did?” Neko questioned and I ran a hand through my hair tiredly. I’m so damn tired of all of this. It’s really been such a long day and it seems like we’re only moving from one issue to another. When and how did happiness suddenly depart from this place?

“To be honest, Neko, I really don’t know what to believe anymore. Knowing Richard, if it wasn’t true, he would have already denied everything and he wouldn’t let Margallo ridicule him like this. Though I’m desperately wishing it’s not true, I’m starting to believe that it is and if it really is, everything is really going to change. I’m not upset that he had a relationship with my mate, what I’m upset about is the fact that he never told me or even Elsie for that matter. Why did he hide it and tried to cover up if he wasn’t in the wrong?” I asked and Neko sighed.

“I’m afraid things really are going to take a drastic turn. But the good news is, you won’t have to deal with Margallo anymore.” Neko said, obviously trying to cheer me up.

“Yes but it’s at the expense of my relationship with Richard. I still can’t believe he’s capable of such a thing.” I said and my eyes darted to Richard when I finally heard him speak.

“Yes.” He began before speaking up again. “Everything Margallo has just said is true but I promise you that I regret everything I did. I was young and I was foolish, I didn’t think before doing things and I didn’t mean to hurt her. After realizing the effects of my actions on her, I apologized and tried to make it right by making sure that she would have a mate who would treat her well. I did everything in my power to earn her forgiveness and up until now, I’m still trying to repent for my actions.” Richard said and no one would have expected what came next.

A sharp sound rang in the dungeon as Elsie slapped Richard hard across the face for the first time. “Richard, how could you? How could you have done such a thing to a woman? Even if you asked for forgiveness a hundred times, it wouldn’t take away the pain she’s had to endure. Why didn’t you tell me? Why did you hide it from me? We could have found a way to make it right.” Elsie said and paused as she choked on her tears.

“A way to make it right? What way? How exactly do you plan to make it right? Would you have left me or rejected me so she could take your place? Would you have done that? Listen to me Elsie, I admit that I made a mistake and I really regret what I did, I would take back my mistakes if I could but I can’t.

Elsie, you’re the one that I love and not her, you’re my soulmate and you mean everything to me so please don’t say that.” Richard pleaded and I could see the tears in his eyes, this was surely one heck of a situation. How exactly do we go about this?
