Chapter 11

Brella P.O.V

“Brella wait.” His voice pleaded his grip still on my arm. “If you just listen to me, I can explain everything. Please.” His voice cracked at the end. I remain still not turning to face him, my wolf was yelling at me to just listen to him. Hear him out and see what he has to say but something was telling me leave before he hurt me again. “Look at me Brella, please.”

I shake my head furiously, staring at my car. I felt him coming around to stand in front of me and I quickly close my eyes. I felt his hand rubbed across my cheeks, my senses tingling as I struggle to keep my eyes close. “Brella could you please open your eyes and look at me. I know what I did, I hurt you but if you just let me explain.”

I shake my head again and heard him sight. His hot breath fanning my face as removes his hand away. I decided to take a peek at him. Big mistake both my eyes open and he was staring intensely at me. My breath hatched and my heart beat accelerate. I immediately become lost in his intense stare. I felt a pang of guilt at his water pool eyes I now register begged me to just listen to him. My mouth went dry as I take on the full sight of him. There were bags hanging underneath his eyes and he looked as if he hasn’t cared to shave in like months.

I pursed my lips. Maybe I should give him a chance, right. That’s fair everyone deserve a second chance. My wolf willed me to just give it to him. She has this feeling that whatever he has to say is important. *Oh please, please just listen to him, I’m sure it’s important.* I mentally sighed giving into her plead.

“Ok Kiefer you have this one chance to explain everything to me. After that I don’t know what will happen.”

A smile broke across his face and I felt my insides melting at the sight of it. He looked more handsome when he smiles.

“Ok now explain yourself.” I said taking a seat and crossing my arm. We agree to return back inside. Lily give us a questioning look but didn’t pry, she excuse herself as we went into the kitchen. I checked my time. “If you keep prolonging I’ll have to leave.”

“I was engage once” He said and my eyes widen. He looked straight at me. “We were high school sweet hearts. I was so in love with her. She was sweet kind fun to be around.”

Jealously stirs inside of me as I listen as he talks about another girl. I calm down on my mouth because I know if I talk, it would accuse him before he finish. Plus why should I be jealous? A part from the mate bond we don’t know each other that well. The bond is what got me feeling this way and nothing else.

“Within a month of our engagement, I she found her mate.”

“”Ha I knew it! She left you so now you want me back.” I pointed my figure at him. “Isn’t that your “explanation” I air quoted.

His eyes harden slightly. “No that’s not it, Now would you just listen.” He grunted out.

I scowled at him, geese grumpy much.

He sighed. “Look I’m sorry, just please listen to what I have to say before you make any accusation.” I nod my head at him.

“Ok.”

I fiddle with the hem of my dress as my mind’s constant at work here. Kiefer had just finished explaining everything to me and I was revealing around everything. I know I believe him without a doubt after seeing the sincerity in his eyes as he told me everything but—

*NO, no buts. I told you it was something important*my wolf remark rubbing it in my face.

*Yeah I get you but I figure when you say important, life threaten didn’t come to my mind* I mentally sighed at my wolf.

I looked at Kiefer my anger towards him diminishes. “So what now? Am I to live in fear that this guy would come and kill me? What about our babies.” I ask looking at him serious. I needed to know for the sake of protecting my babies. Now that I know the truth, I don’t know what’s worst being rejected because I’m not good enough or just to protect me.

“No you don’t need to live in fear because the guy that threatens your life is now dead. My men found where he was hiding they chased him into a warehouse. The building caught on fire and was burn alive. When I return home I had just return from inspecting his body to see if was really him.”

“And?” I lean forward wanting him to continue.

“And it was him part of his face was completely burn and his scent also tells it’s him.”

I relax back in my chair heaving a sigh of relief as I rub my hand unconsciously. Thank god that’s a relief for sure. The man sound like a psycho, I mean yeah Kiefer accidentally kills his mate but it was completely his fault challenging a soon to be Alpha like that. Kiefer was willing to walk away but he wanted a fight. Not to mention the girl she was an a*s for not confessing that she’d found her mate in the first place. If she had done that she would have been alive and I would have been with my mate.

“You don’t need to worry about anything and we could be together, like we’re meant to be.” He said, his voice breaking through my thoughts. He cupped my free hand on the table. I could feel the slight tingle from our hand close together.

I look down at our hands and slowly pull away mine. “Hold on.” I said focusing my gaze on him. “You expect me to forgive you just like that, after some explanation? Sure I believe you but that didn’t help the fact that I was hurt when I woke up that morning and found a lousy letter saying you don’t want me. It was a sicken pain I had to live with ever since that day. The only thing keeps me going are our unborn kids” I held up my hand as he tries to speak. “Yeah I get you were trying to protect me but have you ever thought of telling me? We could have worked something out.”

“I’m sorry Brella I wasn’t thinking, I just-.”

“You weren’t thinking at all Kiefer.” I exclaim. “You know what I need some time and space to think. I wanted to forgive you and let us be together but I honestly know nothing about you and I’m not sure if I could trust you.” I get up looking at my time. “I should go now, it’s getting late.”

His head hung a little and I wanted to say I forgive him and take back what I said but I couldn’t knowing it’s the truth. I sighed and carelessly ran a hand through my hair. My whole body feeling rigged. Who know having a mate could be so problematic.
