Episode 36

I exit the dining room and hear my phone ping. I look at it and it is Ashley texting me. I tell her something came up and I can’t meet up with her tonight, and that we will try again tomorrow night. I head up to the Beta and Gammas floor to see about getting a beer with Mason and Braxton and maybe being able to relax.

I go to Mason’s room, and he is laid out on his recliner drinking a beer and watching a football game on his big screen. I text Braxton to come on down to Mason’s room and have a few beers with us.

Braxton shows up a few minutes later, of course in his usual outfit of no shirt. We enjoy watching the game for the next hour before it ends, and we shut the TV off.

“Well, how are things going around here?” I ask them.

“Things had been same ole, same ole, until 2 weeks ago”. Mason says.

“What happened 2 weeks ago?” I ask them.

“We got the new Beta, your Uncle Bryan, and his family. Your Uncle Bryan and Aunt Audrey brought two more girls with them when they got here with Nicole. One is a full human- “, Mason was saying.

“Wait why is a human part of our pack?” I ask him.

“She isn’t part of our pack; I was talking, and you interrupted me. She is living in the pack, she was aware of us wolves beforehand and had dated one a few years ago, she came to finish off her Senior year with Jade and Nicole. If you had come to the Gamma Ceremony you would have been told what was happening. You don’t show up that often and you should really know more of the inner workings of the pack. Instead of the inner workings of all those girls, you are sleeping with while you are in the city”. Mason said.

“Great, back to Jade again,” I say.

“What do you mean back to Jade again?” Mason asks.

“Well, apparently Dixon has a little crush on her, although he said he doesn’t, that she is just his best friend. He went on and on about her and how nice she is, and how good she is, and how Ashley is such a slut and a liar. He got me in trouble with mom and dad pitching a fit about an incident at school and Brittany giving her a hard time. He went off on me and then took off.” I said to Mason.

“Sounds like you deserved it from the sounds of it. How are you going to take Ashley’s side in anything, she is a malicious slut, that will do anything to try to climb the social ladder man. She is terrible, how do you not see that?” Mason replies. “Why would you even let Ashley think she has a chance at being the Luna? She will destroy this pack. If you think you need it to get her into bed, you don’t need it, she is ready, willing, and able to sleep with anyone who can get her to be a Beta or higher. She is a gold-digger and available to whoever wants her. Asked and denied by me. I do not want her disease-ridden self anywhere near me. I turned her down. If Jade wasn’t going through so much, I would let her know I would like to date her. I would be all over her in a heartbeat if I could. But since she got rejected and didn’t accept, she is stuck with that i***t Beta Heir from the Howling Wolf pack until she accepts the rejection. I fully intend on going with her just in case I am her second chance mate and to protect her from those morons over there. I already told her I would go with her to protect her, and I will. I am only 23, that is only a 5-year difference, I hope I am her second chance mate”. Mason tells me.

“So, you have a crush on her as well? What is she, like some kind of beauty queen, she would have to be for all of you to just keep falling over at her feet right now? You guys need to man up, you don’t need a mate. Why stop at just one, when you can have a new one a week for the rest of your lives? That is the reason Ashley is a good choice, she won’t get mad if I stray, she already told me that. I don’t need a true mate. I don’t need the pull to make me love someone. I want to pick my own mate, I really don’t need a true mate.” I said to them. “I don’t know why everyone loves Jade. Where is she, maybe I should take her out on a date myself, and see what all the excitement is all about”. I finish talking and notice it is dead silent, and then I hear my best friends growl at me. What in the hell, they really do love her too, Bree wasn’t just blowing smoke at me, how can my whole pack be in love with one person?”

“You are disgusting, thank the Goddess Jade is not here as I would hate to have to fight you over her” Mason tells me.

“I agree with Mason, you have changed this last year, and not for the better man, you were never like this before you went to Alpha Training. What all are you guys doing up there because you are no longer the man I once knew. I am glad Jade is not here, she went to the Dark Moon pack to visit for the weekend. She had a hard week and needed the visit. I am with Mason, I would have hated it, but I would have stepped in to kick your a*s as well. As it is, I now need to protect her from your slutty friend Ashley, to make sure she doesn’t hurt her during our training sessions. Ashley holds a grudge and I know she is not done messing with her. Jade is a pure, and loving, soul. Anyone in her presence sees it and responds to it. She got rejected because she was overweight, she has endured more than most people would be able to take, and she keeps moving forward and pushing herself. She has only been here for 2 weeks and has already lost 23 lbs. She had already lost 5 before she got here.” Braxton tells me with pride in his voice.

“So, she is fat, that is why she got rejected, that makes sense. Werewolves are usually not overweight, why is she?” I say to them.

“Don’t make me punch you man, and that is her story to tell. I believe your parents will be letting you into the small circle that knows what she went through” Braxton says. He pauses for a moment and then continues, “Stop being an a*****e Asher, she excels at everything she does, she is stronger every week. She is a machine and Mason, and I, are going to get her where she needs to be. She is following the diet that my friend set up for her to follow and she never complains. She just does what is asked of her and tries to do it better every time she does it. She IS going to be my number one female Elite Warrior, and probably be there in less than a month. She has focus, and drive, she has empathy and truly cares for others, holy s**t, Jade is probably supposed to be the Luna. It would make sense as we all feel protective of her that the Goddess would send her to us”.

“Well for her sake I hope she isn’t because I REALLY don’t want a fat Luna,” I say. Mason and Braxton both growl and stand up and Mason points to the door. “I got it, I got it, you are picking her over me too. I am leaving.” I mumble and leave Mason’s Apartment.

I stop in the hallway and wonder why I am being such an a*****e. Bree accused me of being one, but I didn’t think I was, her comments made me mad, she has always looked up to me. Always put me on a pedestal. I was her big brother and her personal hero. Now she hates me and so does Dixon. My own siblings hate me now and all because of this stupid, fat girl, Jade. I didn’t cause this problem, it was just a misunderstanding, and Ashley should have kept her mouth shut. Why does everyone love her, even my best friends Mason and Brax. They picked her over me too. My world is coming down, and I just want to scream in frustration. I head towards the elevator at the Gamma end of the hall, in case Mason or Braxton come out I didn’t want to be close enough to then to start arguing with them again. I will clear it up tomorrow before I leave.

I smell the most amazing scent floating in the air, in the hallway. A sweet musk and patchouli scent, a musky-earthy smell, like the woods after it rains. I smell my mate up here and follow the sweet, spicy, and musky scent to a room. I enter it and it is empty. Since it is now 2 am I know due to it being empty who’s the room belongs to. Holy s**t Braxton was right, Jade is supposed to be the Luna of the Stone Moon pack.
