Rejected, Then Reborn -
Chapter 59
“So let me get this straight, Ace still hates my guts?” The human girl asked in surprise.
“Eh, I wouldn’t exactly say he hates your guts…”
Lacy shot Reed a pointed look,
“…alright fine, he still does,” He amended softly, “But Lacy, I think we can still slowly work past that.”
“How, Reed?” She asked exasperatedly, “I will practically be living in a little fear of you, and you will also never be completely at ease with me, now how is that a relationship?”
There was just a lot of things between them that made it seem like they were just wasting their time with each other to be very honest.
“Lacy,” The Alpha King reached for her hands, adjusting himself in his seat so he was facing her.
Their glasses of fruit juice were long empty now, sitting atop the long table that was before them, the only witnesses to the weird conversation man and mate were having. “Do you really think that the Moon Goddess would have put us together if she didn’t think that we were compatible enough?
The human girl shook her head in the negative. No, she didn’t think so, “But then again, I don’t really know how all of this works, and I could just be mistaken. Because this intense hatred your wolf feels for me is just crazy. It really doesn’t seem normal.”
“Reed has a wolf?” Ramona walked in on them suddenly, startling the Alpha King and his mate, “Uh, yeah… a very adorable half breed named Ace.” Lacy lied between her teeth as the woman came for their glasses, a very panicked look on both her’s and Reed’s face.
She recovered soon enough but it took Reed quite a while. He seemed not to have taken quite well to the woman barging in on them like that.
“Oh really, what’s that like?” The nanny asked him when he didn’t seem to make any effort to join in on the conversation, but Lacy quickly took charge to cancel any awkwardness when he still couldn’t bring himself to respond.
“You know, Ace is really endearing and sweet to everyone—everyone but me, that is… I really have no idea what I did to the beast, but anyway, when are mother and father coming back from their trip?” She quickly changed the subject.
“They’ll be here tomorrow, Lacy. They haven’t spoken to you?”
They actually had.
In the morning before she left with Reed to go sightseeing, but her nanny did not need to know that?
“Not exactly, I called them this morning, but they were too busy to talk much, so I didn’t get to ask.” She lied.
“Oh okay, I see.”
“You know what?” Lacy stood up, faking a yawn so perfect that one would literally have no idea that she was pretending. “It’s been a very hectic day, and I’m pretty tired.”
“I’m pretty knackered myself,” Reed quickly piped in, standing up as well, “I guess we’re both ready to call it a night then.”
“Have a goodnight, Ramona,” He nodded at her, “Lacy.” He turned to leave, but Lacy called his name, “Wait. We can walk up the stairs together.” She followed after him, saying a loud goodnight to her old caretaker, not even bothering to wait for a response.
The two crossed the long hallway in silence and then began to climb the grand staircase, and that was actually when Lacy finally spoke. “Are you sure you’re alright, Reed?” She asked in concern, having sensed a little change in his demeanor.
“Yeah, yeah… I’m alright,” He brushed her worries off, continuing with his ascent, but then he realised that his mate had stopped trailing after him.
He turned to see her standing in her tracks, a pointed look on her face, arms crossed, and he sighed deeply, “Alright fine, I’m not.” He admitted.
Lacy caught up with him, her worry apparent in her light green eyes. “What’s wrong, you’re having second thoughts?”
“Look Lace, things may not be looking perfect for us right now, but I promise you that I’m going nowhere. I’m really in this with you.” He swore solemnly.
“So, what is the matter then?”
He sighed softly, “No one has ever been able to creep up on me like the way Ramona had just done without me noticing, and to be very honest… it just—it really freaked me out. You know, Ace has always been on the lookout for me as long as I can remember… it seems very weird not having him around to do that.”
Lacy didn’t say a word, she just stepped closer to him and wrapped her arms around him, offering her silent solidarity. She was never going to know exactly how he was feeling, but her mate was taking such huge steps, literally putting himself at an inconvenience to be with her, and she could just imagine what he was going through right now. “We’re going to get through this, mate,” She whispered softly to him, kissing him tenderly on the cheek right before she stepped back… only, his arm at the small of her backstopped her from moving farther away, actually pulling her back into his warmth, right before his lips captured hers. “I like the new nickname you have for me.” He murmured against her lips before he continued their k**s.
This one was a long, sweet, chaste k**s, and when Reed pulled back, he smiled warmly at her, “I feel so much better now.”
She could only stare back at him, unable to formulate a thought process, and Reed chuckled at the stupefied look on her face.
“Now, whenever you’re giving me a tough time, I know a surefire way to get you to shut up,” He chuckled in amusement, pulling her to him and wrapping an arm around her shoulders as they continued to climb the stairs, and it was a good thing he had too, for her legs felt so much like jelly that she was even surprised they were working.
Reed seriously wanted nothing more than to follow his mate to her room or pull her to his for at least an hour or two of constant ravishing, but he really didn’t trust himself to stop if he did, and he’d be damned, but he sure as hell wasn’t going to take Lacy in her parents’ house with an annoying as f**k nanny lurking in the shadows.
And so, he kissed her one final time, (certainly longer than the first) and then bid her a throaty goodnight, stepping right into his room and bolting the door shut before he did anything stupid.

Lacy’s brain was muddled for a few minutes before her b***d jump started its circulation, prompting her to step into her room.
The human girl collapsed right onto her bed as soon as she stepped in and shut the door behind her.
You know, she had actually wanted to wear one of her silky nighties for their meeting, but she had realised early on that it was not such a good idea. And even now, with the way she was feeling, she wasn’t even sure the baggy shirt and sweat shorts she had gone for was safe. As a matter of fact, nothing was safe under her mate’s heated gaze. She was even willing to go as far as to say that a ball gown with loads of tulle wouldn’t even be a safe option with him.
Okay, she seriously needed to stop thinking about him.
She was only making herself all hot and bothered, and there was no way in hell she was going to touch herself to thoughts of him, especially when he was just two doors away from her, and Ramona was busy sniffing her nose in her every business.
You know, no one actually knew that she had her memory back.
No one except for Reed, that is.
And to be very honest, Lacy was seriously contemplating whether to tell her family or not, and why wouldn’t she?
She really wasn’t at liberty to tell them about anything that had happened, and in the imaginary case that she were, the human girl was pretty sure that they were certainly going to lock her up in a mental institution when they heard some of the things she had to say.
But what if instead of trying to think of how they would take it, she tried to see their reaction for herself in her many visions instead?
That seemed like a good idea, right?
And so, with that thought in mind, the human girl closed her eyes, trying to envision her family in one room as she tried to tell them that her memories had returned.
Her temples started to throb softly, and Lacy launched into it, closing her eyes tighter, expecting the searing pain… but still, there was nothing.
Perhaps her body was starting to get used to them?
She opened her eyes anyway, expecting to see the now familiar hole appear on her wall, but there was nothing like that, and the faint throbbing in her head slowed down with each breath she took and then finally stopped altogether.
The poor human girl’s breath caught in her throat as the implications of everything that had happened dawned on her.
Her visions had apparently come to an end, it seemed.
