“I was starting to worry, Your Eminence,” Synn greeted him as soon as their feet touched the ground of her cozy cottage. “You were gone a very long time.” She said,

“How long was I gone?” It seemed that the air in this realm seemed to have done something to her mate, for gone was his laid back attitude… gone was his relaxed smile and his teasing smirk.

The Alpha King was back, his invisible crown already sitting on his dark, curly head!

One would think that Lacy would have been crestfallen at the new development, but even she understood the situation.

Something wasn’t right.

“You were gone for three months, Your Eminence.” The Mother of Thorns informed him, but Lacy in her confusion poked her nose in their conversation. “Three months? Something must clearly be wrong, because he was only gone three days.”

“Welcome back, my queen,” The Hex greeted her with a small bow of her head, leaving Lacy dumbfounded. “He really has been gone for three months. Time moves differently in each realm.” She explained to the human girl, but it was obvious that she barely heard a word her mind focused on nothing but the word she had been addressed as.

My Queen?

Why would Synn call her that?

“You are my mate, and you will soon be my wife and the co ruler of my kingdom, Lacy… so best start getting used to your new title, which would be formalized once we get married,” The Alpha King smiled softly at her, answering her silent question. But when he turned back to the Hex… the smile was gone, replaced with his signature bone chilling scowl.

The observation made the Mother of Thorns smile inwardly.

Who knew that her ruthless King could be this loving and doting towards a woman?

The Hex couldn’t believe that he had almost allowed himself to be deprived of the wonderful feeling that was true love.

But she had grave news for the two lovebirds.

“There was an invasion while you were away, Your Eminence.” Synn Gloom told him, for the first time quite sad that just like her name, she was bringing despairing news.

“Who was it?” Reed’s eyes turned red as he went straight to the point, the process a bit slower than normal due to the injectables he had used to subdue his beastly half… but Ace was slowly waking up, and he had caught just enough of the Hex and his human half’s conversation to be pissed off already about it.

“Lucius Smith, Your Emin—”

“What did he want?” Reed growled, while Lacy looked on helplessly. It was the first time she was hearing of her ex-mate and husband after his last rejection and her rebirth, and she wasn’t exactly sure how to react.

“Your sister.”

At first Reed chuckled.

If that was Synn’s way of practicing her human or Lyken social interactions like she usually did, then she was taking things a bit too far, and he was going to tell her that, but then he realised that she wasn’t laughing along with him.

You see, this wasn’t the first time the Hex had tried her hand on a social experiment as such.

She was unclassifiable, meaning she didn’t fall into any of the five realms that surrounded the dark forest. She was neither Lyken, nor a Werecreature, nor Fae, nor Human, nor a Vampire, and everywhere she had gone to seek shelter had rejected her… everyone but Reed that is, who had someway somehow found that he was oddly drawn to the old thing.

Hex had been the name the Clan had picked for her, and because of her ability to soothsay and perform spells which usually had a dark element to it, they had all started to call her Synn Gloom, and the name had eventually stuck.

Where was I going with all this?

The old Hex may have been with them for quite a long time, but she was still trying to adjust, and as such, she did things quite weirdly sometimes, like say the most outrageous of things and then try to call it a joke.

But this time, nothing of that sort happened.

“What was done about it? No wait, you know what, don’t answer that. I’ll get them myself.” He stormed out of her cottage, his fury so blinding that he forgot all about the woman he had brought with him.

“Did he take her?” Lacy asked, finding that she was already too invested in the story to stop thinking about it just because Reed said so.

“He did, My Queen.” Came the answer, and Lacy’s b***d froze in horror.

“EVEN IF SHE SAID SHE’D GO WITH HIM, WHY WOULD YOU TWO LET HER?!” Reed roared in the faces of his Gamma and Beta Generals.”

“Calm down, Reed.”

“You want me to calm down?” He asked incredulously as he eyed Rieka in annoyance, his voice going higher in pitch, “You want me to calm down?! How about you f*****g get my sister back for me then?”

“Reed… Anaya was the one who asked Lucius to come for her.” Lobo informed him, his incredibly deep voice filled with a little bit of emotion in his understanding of his friend’s feelings.

“What?!” The Alpha King just couldn’t believe his ears.

“In the three months that you’d been gone, Anaya became severely depressed, and she tuned everyone out, withdrawing into herself.” Rieka explained softly, “She avoided all of us, Xavier especially, despite all the efforts we made to be there for her… and we tried to put ourselves in her shoes and understand, giving her the space she said she wanted, hoping that since crowding over her didn’t work, a little distance would… but it was the worst decision we ever made.” Rieka swallowed deeply, almost as if her throat hurt just at the mere thought of saying the words, “She turned to Crellixer—”

“f**k!” Reed exclaimed, his two hands going up to tug at his curls in lamentation.

Crellixer was a deadly drug that got Lykens addicted, and now his sister was using it. “Where did she even f*****g get it?”

“We managed to get her off it, Reed. Calm down.” Lobo tried to go close to him, but his eyes turned red once more, and the Beta general wisely kept his distance.

“What has all of this you’re telling me got to do with my sister and that fucker Lucius?” He growled once more, his patience reaching its limit.

“She apparently found out that he had certain Winchester treasures, and she felt that she could get rid of the guilt she was feeling and re-channel her depression by getting them back.”

Oh f**k.

Reed was pretty sure that she went snooping in his room while he was away.

“And you guys allowed her to go for that?” He hissed angrily. “GARDENING, GETTING NEW BOOKS TO READ, HECK, SPARRING… SHE COULD HAVE LITERALLY DONE ANYTHING ELSE, AND THAT WAS WHAT YOU PEOPLE ALLOWED HER TO GO FOR?”

Why was he even angry with them?

It was Anaya that needed to be at the receiving end of his wrath and furry… not them?

“Was there a clash? And how many people were injured?” He sighed deeply, trying to calm Ace down so he didn’t take advantage of his sister, Due’s disappearance to do anything rash.

“She had willingly wanted to go with him, Reed…” Lobo said, “And he had wisely brought some members of the Supernatural Council with him.” Rieka interjected.

“We would have heavily been sanctioned if we tried anything, especially when it was so obvious that you were not around.”

Reed understood it all perfectly.

They were not at fault.

At this point he was still the one to blame in all of this, because of he hadn’t let Lacy go, he wouldn’t have had needed to go and bring her back. None of this would have happened if he was here.

“Ready the warriors,” He told them, his blue eyes shining in “I’m going to get back my sister.”

Reed had left with his troops, too worried about his baby sister to even bid his goodbyes to his mate, and while it was eating him up, he hoped that she would understand, and to ease his raging guilt, he promised himself that he was going to make it up to her when all of the dust had settled.

A hundred Lykens ran after their Alpha King, fully shifted even as Reed ran in his humanoid form. Ace was almost himself now, but Reed wanted him to be at his one hundredth best before he completely handed him control.

The journey was a mere three hours, which was surprising, given the wide expanse of the dark forest.

And from the way a multitude of werewolves littered the entrance of Lucius’s packhouse, it was pretty obvious that they had been expecting him.

“ANAYA!!!!” Reed called out loudly, his voice so powerful that he was sure the entire Blue Valley Pack heard him, he looked up at the balcony when he heard a round of applause, and then Lucious was looking down at him, dressed in the ancient clothes of a royal. “I knew your baby sister would get you to come and visit me, Winchester.”

“WHERE. IS. MY. SISTER. YOU. BASTARD?” Both Man and Lyken growled at the same time, each asking for their baby sister, Reed for Anaya, Ace for Due.

“Here comes the big brother to the rescue,” The Alpha of the Blue Valley Pack chuckled in amusement, a few other werewolves joining in. His new wife stood behind him, a buxom woman whose beauty paled in comparison to Lacy’s in leaps and bounds. In that moment, Reed couldn’t help but wonder what the i***t saw in her to discard Lacy for her, but what did he care anyway?

Lucius’s loss was his gain.

“I have a proposition for you, Winchester, and then you can have your sister back.” The Werewolf grinned, a sadistic one that had Reed wanting to fly up there to punch him in the face.

“Where is she, Lucius?” He full on snarled, realizing that he didn’t have patience for this kind of nonsense right now.

“Come now, hear me out first, buddy.” Lucius raised his hands in placation. “How’s Lacy doing by the way?” He asked curiously.

Reed couldn’t help but notice how his wife’s face changed at the mention of her rival’s name, but he was too overcome by his anger to be satisfied by it, “She’s not your business, Smith…”

“Well, she can be again, Winchester.” He interjected ominously, “I will give you back your baby sister only if you’re willing to hand Lacy over to me.”

“Not in this lifetime or any other, Smith.” Reed swore vehemently, his claws drawing out.

Like hell if that was going to happen.
