Rejected, Then Reborn -
Chapter 67
“Oh, Reed.” Lacy murmured her mate’s name softly, a small m**n of pain escaping her lips as she struggled to sit upright.
“Shh, shh… you’re alright, my love,” Reed was by her side in a minute, helping her up, peppering her forehead with k****s as he assured her over and over again that she was fine and that Xavier was on his way. When he pulled away to look at her again, gone were her bloody red eyes and back were her normal green eyes.
Instead, the most interesting thing about her now was the fact that her dark, curly waves had a weird streak of blond at her right side, a very weird development that had certainly not been present earlier.
But all that aside, Reed’s heart was swelling up.
Truly, the Alpha King did not have any explanation for it other than the fact that Ace’s acceptance of his mate was finally causing him to feel the full effects of the mate bond,
And what a force it was!
All he wanted to do was to completely mark her as his, to feel her sweet, warm, wet heat as he ruined her for everyone else… as he made her realise that she totally belonged to him, heart, body, mind and soul.
But he was equally filled with a strong desire to ensure that she was okay, and until he had made sure of that, he was going to have to put his erotic thoughts on hold for a while and focus on her safety first.
“Can you stand?” He started to ask, but then he quickly changed his mind, “No wait, just hold on and lie still, we’ll know everything for sure when Xavier gets here.”
Speaking of the bastard, what the f**k was keeping him so long?
Reed didn’t care that his best friend had literally just returned from a trip, he needed him to head on over and come do his f*****g job as Healer Supreme, asap.
In fact, had the Alpha King had his way, he’d go over and drag his best friend over himself, but just when he was contemplating those thoughts, the door to Lacy’s room flew open and there the huge hunk stood, a distressed look on his face.
“Oh Lacy, you’re awake,” He made to go and hug his human friend with relief, but both Reed and Ace let out a growl so deadly that he automatically became stuck in his tracks.
“You will observe our mate only in the medical sense, Xavier, try anything funny, and I won’t hesitate to rip your heart out of your chest and step on it with my bare feet, our relationship be damned.”
“Well, well, well, I can clearly see that a lot has happened in my absence that I wasn’t filled in on,” The good doctor quipped with an amused chuckle, but even he could tell that his best friend’s attention had long shifted from him.
Reed couldn’t stop looking at his mate.
At first, the Alpha King thought that there was a chance that his mate would be highly disgusted with his behavior, but when he turned to look at her, rather than fear or disgust, all he saw was pure, undiluted l**t.
Well, damn.
His own eyes quickly darkened as he watched her gaze trail down to his naked pecs, his stormy blues widening slightly when she let out a mischievous smirk and slowly bit her lips.
The bloody vixen!
She knew exactly the effect she was having on him.
The Alpha King shook his head to clear his thoughts, Synn Gloom’s last words ringing loud and clear in his head, dousing the flames of his desire a little bit, a feeling of sadness engulfing him at the remembrance of her sacrifice.
He was going to make sure that her death was not in vain.
Even if it killed him.
And so, with that resolution, he stood up, gave his best friend a powerful hug and grabbed the fresh change of clothes he had brought him, “Welcome back, man.” He muttered with a grateful nod, dashing into Lacy’s bathroom without another look in her direction, even with all of Ace’s love-struck protests.
“Let’s fill her with seed, make her bear our pups.” He heard the words once the bathroom door closed shut.
“Gods, not you too. You heard what Synn said though, right?” Reed rolled his eyes at his horny lyken wolf’s antics.
“What does she know? f**k that old hag.”
“She died to save our mate… the very person you have been so adamant on killing all along, best put some respect on her name, Ace.” Reed warned as he placed both of his legs in the pair of jeans his friend had brought him, but Ace was totally unbothered by the jab.
“In my defense, Lacy wasn’t her complete self, and something about her weird scent made me terribly irritated. It’s a wonder I held on for so long without killing her, and I’m not going to apologize for that, Reed. All I can do is make it up to her, and it goes somewhere along the lines of filling her with enough pleasure to bear the pain of my mark, and then turning her so I can get my own lyken half. You will then handle her human form, while I take care of my lyken mate.”
“We’re not going to force her to turn if she doesn’t want to, Ace.”
“Say you’re not, Reed. I, on the other hand can totally see myself doing that.” The proud beast barked in amusement, very happy with his wondrous idea.
The Alpha King ignored his beastly half and finished wearing his clothes, dashing right back into the room as quickly as his legs would allow him, which was pretty fast in case you were wondering. Gods knew he had left his mate with his annoying best friend for far too long.
If Reed thought he had gotten his emotions under control like he had been leading himself to believe all along, then he was sorely mistaken, because it all came rushing back the second he stepped out and his gaze met his beautiful mate’s green ones.
She was up and about now, her thick bundles of fur coats long discarded, leaving her in a thin strapped black nightie that could have passed off as decent if it hadn’t been so figure hugging, and to make matters worse, she was sitting on the arm of Xavier’s chair, her body facing him even as she shot Reed a look of amusement, “Took you long enough, babe.”
“What the f**k are you wearing?”
He almost growled out the words, but from what he could see, his anger was having no effect on his mate at all.
“Well, darling Xavier here needed to run some checks to make sure I was alright, plus I realised that I wasn’t feeling so cold anymore. I’m doing wondrously well, apparently… now, isn’t that something?” Her voice was overly cheerful, and she seemed to have suddenly gained this confidence that was mesmerizing just as much as it was sensual, it had Reed even more hooked.
“Xavier was keeping me company since you were gone for so long.”
Her lips were moving, but the Alpha King barely caught the words.
Yep.
He was definitely hooked.
So hooked that he didn’t want to share the feeling with anyone.
And apparently, Ace equally shared in the sentiment.
“Get out.” They both said the word as one to the intruder, their patience wearing thin, and Xavier, who had thankfully treated enough mated werewolves in his early days as doctor to know how it all went sighed resignedly, “Well, you better come and see me when you’re done here. You and I have a lot of catching up to do.”
No sooner had the door shut behind them than Lacy practically flew into his arms, throwing herself at him in a hug. “Oh Reed, you have no idea how much I missed you!”
His hands instinctively latched onto her waist to hold on to her lest she fall, and she took active advantage of that to wrap her legs around his waist, pressing her lips against his even before he could protest.
For a while Reed allowed himself to relish in the satisfaction of their lips finally touching.
It felt surreal, like a warrior finally returning home to his family after many years of battle…
It was exactly what he had longed to do from the moment she had taken in her first breath in three days.
Her eager lips mashed against his, her tongue actively fighting his for dominance, and b***d instinctively pooled in his groin in anticipation of what was to come…
Only, nothing was forthcoming.
Synn Gloom’s last warning cooled off every erotic, heated thought… dousing him into self-awareness like cold water would a sleepy man, and causing him to pull his lips away from hers albeit unwillingly.
“What’s wrong, Reed? Haven’t you missed me?”
The anxiety and confusion in her voice tore at his heart strings, but he pressed on, gently placing her back on her feet. “We need to talk, Lacy.” He started. “Synn Gloom, is dead.”
To be honest, he expected some dramatic reaction out of her, but she only blinked calmly at him and said, “I know, I felt her inside me.” Then her head c****d to the side, “Is—Is that why you don’t want to k**s me? Because the old hag is in me now?”
She inched closer and placed her hands inside his shirt, feeling his toned abs and muscles. Honest to God, he almost sighed in contentment, but he only pulled away as though he had been burnt.
“It’s not that, Lace… here,” He reached for one of her fur coats and hung it around her shoulders, “Let’s sit.” He led her to a chair, sitting down right beside her. “Lacy, you know now that you’re the Dark Witch, right?”
She scoffed at his question, “Here we go again with those crazy stories…”
“You literally said you could feel the Hex in you, Lacy… how are they crazy stories?”
She ignored his confused question, choosing instead to climb his lap, shrugging the coat he had painstakingly wrapped around her off, “Who cares about that right now, hm? All I know is, I want you…” She whispered the words seductively, her eyes shining with a darkness that instantly had the Alpha King hard. “I want you to take me, Reed. I want to feel you inside me, to feel my walls clenching around you as you thrust into me with need…”
A sharp, almost painful breath escaped his lips when she began to grind against him, rubbing her panty clad s*x against his jeans covered e******n, her hands shooting out to play with her n*****s through her thin, satin nightie, “Just give in to this moment, Reed. Take me, I’m willing.”
As if that wasn’t enough, her head fell back in ecstasy, revealing her creamy neck and drawing Ace to the surface as he stared through his human half’s eyes.
This was it.
He was going to fail.
