Chapter 109

Tanner’s POV

B***d Rose pack

Luna Meghan will be here in an hour, and I want to get this over with and done. There was also potential for them to get here early. I have had Gerald call me twice today. The first time was to confirm our being able to accept them coming to our pack at 2 pm for him to turn Luna Meghan over. On the second call, he was more stressed out and I could tell that he was upset. He had asked me when the Council would be here, and I informed him that they were already here, along with King Sebastian. He seemed to calm down at that point, and I asked him if he would rather me send a team to get her with King Sebastian. He told me, “No, but I appreciate the offer. I actually need to speak with them on a different matter. I have new information, which will add additional charges to Meghan. I wanted to be the one to tell them what they were and show them the proof. I found it the other day after I had spoken to Rob, but it wasn’t confirmed until this morning when the test results came back. I am fine we will be there by 2 pm, probably a little earlier.”

I didn’t know what he had found out but I needed to go ahead and check the video to make sure that it recorded correctly and that there was no problem with the video. We needed to know that, so I could still let her, or her father, know that they would need to go to the Council to make another statement if this video was messed up. We all watched it in silence and I thought back to when we went out to the Hospital to speak to Carrie.

Flashback

I entered Carrie’s hospital room with Gabi, King Sebastian, Council Leader Anthony Miller, Council Member Teresa Phillips, and Andrew. Andrew had stored the two tests taken on the substances in Sloan’s drink in my safe in my office for them to be secure, but he had videoed the results already. Andrew came with his video recorder, and he set it up quickly as he knew we wanted this to be over as soon as possible.

Carrie looked scared, and both of her parents looked scared as well, with the same warrior standing guard over her. Carrie’s father stepped forward and barred his neck to King Sebastian and me, and then spoke, “Alpha, I am so sorry that this happened. Carrie has made a terrible mistake, but I am glad that she came to her senses. She is sorry that it happened, she didn’t want anything to happen to the Heir to B***d Rose, so she told Sloan not to drink it. I never thought that she could be in this type of situation. I should have kept her from hanging out with Anna and Jennifer, that are not good she-wolves, but she wanted to be friends with them. I should have just done what my first instinct was and kept them away from her. I am so sorry Alpha.”

“Hindsight is indeed clearer. I am sorry it happened as well. These girls made a deliberate choice, they broke the pack rules and left the pack after we were just attacked. The worst part was the reason for it. They all had a “candidate identified” of who they wanted their chosen mate to be. They decided to not just take the life of the incoming Luna but to try to force the wolves that they had “chosen” to be theirs to accept them. That was not fair to the men or their prospective mates. But I was glad that Carrie decided to let that go to warn Sloan. That is the only reason that she is not going to be involved in the trial with Anna and Jennifer. I just need to get Carrie’s statement now to be shown at the trial” I told them.

“They are going to be tried. For poisoning Sloan?” I heard the fear in Carrie’s voice.

“Yes, they will be put up for getting a death sentence, for attempting to kill the incoming Luna, as well as her and Dawson’s twins,” Gabi told her.

“Oh no, Anna told us both that because Sloan hadn’t had the Luna Ceremony that she wasn’t the Luna, and we couldn’t be tried for it,” Carrie told us gnawing on her bottom l*p.

“Anna said a lot of things that were not true. Do you remember the town hall? You remember when Anna kept disrespecting Sloan?” Gabi asked Carrie.

“Yes, I wanted Anna to stop, but she refused. It was really embarrassing” Carrie said.

“Well, Dawson introduced Sloan to the pack as his mate. She bares his mark, and they were fully mated. That announcement was to let the whole pack know that she was his. She is the incoming Luna, it doesn’t matter if it happened to me, Aria, or Sloan, the sentence is the same. Being Luna is tough, and it doesn’t matter if you were the former, current, or soon-to-be, making plans to kill any one of us, comes with the death sentence. Especially for such a heinous crime as this” Gabi told Carrie. Carrie strikes me as a nice girl but was too gullible. She fell for what Anna said, and unfortunately for her, she was a part of it and will have to be punished for it.

“We just want your statement, on record, as you will no longer be a part of the B***d Rose pack for your actions. Your parents can decide whether to go with you or stay here, but I will not allow anything further to happen to Sloan if your parents decide to stay here. Please just tell us what happened on the day of the attack using your own words on record. Then you can go pack Carrie, and I will give you $1000 for you to use to help you get where you want to go. I know you have some savings built up and you can go get them too before you leave as well, but you are no longer welcome to live here at B***d Rose anymore” I told her, and she burst out crying. She didn’t see that coming, and I almost felt bad for her, but then I remember that she could have come to us, Gavin, or my parents to tell them what had happened for over 48 hours, and she didn’t. Listening to her friends and getting the wolf of her dreams, was what she wanted, and nothing else mattered to her after that.

“We will go with her Alpha, she won’t be able to make it out in the world by herself. She is naïve and gullible and won’t be able to survive on her own” Her father told me, and I nodded in agreement. I can understand wanting to protect your family.

“I understand, and I will give your family a total of $5000 for you to find a safe place to live. I hope you find a good pack willing to take you in. I am quite sure that this won’t happen again, that she has learned her lesson, but I can’t have her here anymore. It would probably upset Sloan, but I know it would upset myself, Gabi, and Dawson. This is the heir to the pack that was in jeopardy, and until she found out that Sloan was pregnant, she was willing to let her die” I told them.

“Thank you, Alpha. I appreciate you helping our family out like that, especially after this happened. We will go get packed, while she goes on record with what she knows. We will be back in less than an hour to pick her up and leave” Her father said, and they both left the room to go to their house and get packed up. I would have let them stay until the morning, but I think it will be for the best for them to go ahead and do it today. I mindlinked Gavin and told him to get the funds from my safe and to take them to her parent’s house, with two warriors. I still wanted him to be safe, they could get upset while packing, knowing that they are out of the pack. I didn’t think it would happen, but you never know. I also didn’t think a bunch of young women would try to kill my son’s mate either.

“When are we starting Alpha?” Carrie asks me.

“We were already recording Carrie as soon as Andrew set up the camera in your room. Just tell the truth, about what happened. That is all you have to do. If you could let us know where you end up living, just in case they need you to come and give your statement in person at the trial. I think that the video will be enough for the trial. If you don’t want to tell us where you land, then you can just reach out to the werewolf Council to advise them in case they do need you for additional questions” I told her, and she nodded in agreement.

“Ok, the day of the attack, scared us all. We were glad that no one got hurt, and I was eating a late breakfast in the dining room. I had overslept for training and was late to get to eat that day. Anna and Jennifer came to me and told me what had happened at the gate. I thought I had heard some gunshots, but with how Gabi and the Elite team train, I just assumed that it was them. We didn’t get any notification of it being anything else. Anna told me that Brandi had called her on her cell phone and told her that she wanted Anna to give some potion to Sloan. I didn’t like it, but Anna told me that she wouldn’t suffer and that Luna Meghan made a good point that Sloan was a hybrid. That she didn’t deserve to have a good mate because she since she was a dirty witch. That if she had children with Dawson, it would weaken the pack” Carrie takes a minute to think about what to say next.

“I know that I shouldn’t have fallen for it, looking back I was an i***t, but Anna seemed sure that she would be Dawson’s second chance mate, or get him to make her his chosen mate. Brandi told her that she believed it as well when we met her to get the poison. Brandi also said that if Anna decided to do this, to poison Sloan, she was on her own, and that she wasn’t going to help Anna if she got caught. She also told her to delete all the messages between them. She said that she didn’t have anything to do with this happening, even though she brought the poison to us, from her mother. But she did, we would never have gotten the poison, if she hadn’t reached out to Anna. Brandi had told her that she knew that they wouldn’t be able to get it in here, at B***d Rose, any other way. Anna was then going to Luna command both Greyson and Harrison to accept us as their mates. I have had so much guilt over this. I did go with them, but I didn’t know why we were heading to meet Brandi until we were over halfway there. If I balked, Anna would have killed me. At first, I was Ok with it, I didn’t really know Sloan, and I have had a big crush on Harrison for years. Sloan is a hybrid, and I don’t know very much about hybrids, but hearing Brandi, Anna, and Jennifer going on and on about how Sloan is a witch and shouldn’t be our Luna made sense. We are wolves, she is a witch, I don’t understand how she was blessed with Dawson. It just didn’t seem right to me, but once he said that Sloan was pregnant, and how much he loved her. I could see the love showing in his eyes. I could feel how much he loved her, I just couldn’t allow her to be killed by drinking that drink. Plus, Anna put extra in it. Brandi said that her mother said to use a dropper of each, but Anna filled the droppers to the max and put two droppers from each vial into the drink. I am sorry Alpha Tanner, Luna Gabi, I truly am. I allowed my own wants and desires to cloud my judgment. I never thought about what Harrison’s true mate might feel at him being taken from her, or how much it would hurt him too” Carrie said as she stared into the camera.

She never turned her head until she apologized to Gabi and me, she was sincere in her statement, and I could tell that she was telling the truth. She did feel bad about it now, but I really wish she had reported it to anyone, including Harrison, so I didn’t have to punish this family. I have had no problems with Carrie before. She was an OK warrior, and her only flaw was Anna and Jennifer. Her father was a strong warrior, as was her mother. It would hurt to lose them, I am sure Carrie will get stronger, but I think she holds herself back because of confidence issues, and not wanting attention on herself. So, she just kind of goes through the motions in training. Hopefully, she will do better with both of her parents now focused on her.

“I appreciate your apology Carrie, but it isn’t me that you should apologize to. It is Sloan and Dawson. I will pass it along. I want you to think about who you are friends with from now on. Make sure it is not just one-sided, where you never get to pick what you do, where you go, or if they just have you around when they need you. Because that is not a friendship. I know that you cared for them both, but they were going to kill you to keep you from talking. Your friendship was uneven, and you need to focus on making better choices with your friends” Gabi told her. I nod in agreement, she needs to remember this and not let it happen again.

“I will Luna. I just was so happy that they liked me, or so I thought, that I just went along with everything that they said or wanted to do. I learned a big lesson from this. I also realized that being in a loveless relationship would not make me happy. I did have a crush, but when I dream about my mate, I want all the bells and whistles. I want the tingles, and the love, and him looking at me like I hung the moon. I will pray that is what I get when I find him. I feel terrible at the thought of what I was willing to do, without putting thought into what I was actually wanting to do. I romanticized it, to stop my guilt from crushing me, thinking that Harrison might one day actually fall in love with me, but that was not what was going to happen. It was a childish dream, that only would have been beneficial to me, and not to him. I will let the Council know where we end up living just in case they need me to come and testify in person. The guard told me what happened after Anna knocked me out. Thank you, Alpha, for saving me, even if I didn’t deserve it” Carrie said to us, and I nodded at her. It is my job to protect my members, and I knew what they were planning on doing.

“It was my pleasure to protect you, Carrie. We wish you no ill will. If you had just notified anyone of the plans, this wouldn’t have happened. You would have been allowed to stay in the pack. I think you will find your mate, and I hope that it is exactly as you hoped when you do find them. I know I wouldn’t give my mate up for anything” I told Carrie, as I smiled down at Gabi.

“Thank you for helping us Alpha, I will head to meet my parents, that are outside now, and we appreciate the financial help you gave us when you really didn’t have to,” Carrie told us, as she got down from her bed, and walked out of the room.

END OF FLASHBACK

We finished watching the video of Carrie in my office, with no one speaking, until Peyton pipes up, “I feel sorry for her. She got taken advantage of by fake friends. That Anna girl is not a good person.”

“Baby, you have too soft a heart. She made her choice, dad was right, she could have told anyone in the two days that Dawson and Sloan had to be holed up in their room. She just wanted to have her crush, in exchange for someone else’s life. That is not a fair exchange. She was naïve, but hopefully, she takes what mom said to heart and doesn’t get fooled again” Percy said to her, then softened the blow by hugging her as she sat in his lap and then gave her a k**s.

“I think that this was a good interview, and it should stand at the trial. I hope she does let us know where she is going, just in case, but even if she does it is good to have this video” Council Leader Miller said to the group.

“I agree, plus we were there as witnesses to it, so it should stand. I did believe her, and I believed her when she said that she now felt bad about being a part of it. She seems easily led, a follower, not a leader. She was weak and just went along with it, she was indeed wrong for it, so I agree with the banishment of her family. I do not think she deserved to be killed for her part in it.” King Sebastian

“We need to start heading down to the front of the packhouse now, it is ten minutes to 2 pm, and Gerald said that they may be here earlier than the 2 pm appointed time. I want to be there when they arrive” I told the group, and we headed down. I see Vincent and his family in the lobby when we get there, and they walked out with us. I just want this over with. This has been a draining day with traveling, dealing with the girls, and now having to deal with Luna Megan. I will be glad when this is all over with, I have a bad feeling that Gerald is about to drop a bomb on us, and I don’t know if it will be for Luna Meghan, or against her.
