She was informed that someone had drugged her and tried to r**e her. Fortunately, a kind stranger intervened and saved her, then brought her to the hospital.

Although no one raped her, Riya was groped, and they definitely did other things to her as even her bra was missing.

When she thought about what might have happened, Riya felt scared and angry.

In the next moment, she started blaming Adam.

He knew that there was something in her drink, yet he let her drain the whole glass. If only he had insisted longer, she would not have had to go through that horrible experience.

The more Riya thought about it, the angrier she became. She stared daggers at Adam and demanded, "Why did you leave me alone last night? How could you let me drain that drink when you knew that someone had mixed drugs in it?

"Did you know what I went through? I'm your wife's cousin, so how could you just stand there and watch while I was in danger? Do you even have a heart?"

Katie turned to look at Adam.

The reporters smelled a potential scoop, so they swarmed over, filled with excitement.

A girl and her cousin's husband drinking together at night... The reporters immediately came up with a slew of stories. They aimed the camera at Adam and started taking pictures of him.

Adam frowned and said, "I did remind you back then."

Riya snarled, "What was the point of reminding me if you were to leave right after? Why didn't you stay there and take me away? Even if I refused to leave back then, you should have stayed by my side to protect me! Are you even a man?!" Her eyes were bloodshot due to the tears.

In the next moment, the crowd chimed in.

"You just stood there and watched while your wife's cousin was getting taken advantage of. Do you even have a conscience?"

"Their whole family is cold-blooded. The wife looks down on the poor and doesn't want to have anything to do with her poor relatives, while the husband sees people in danger and does nothing to help."

Emotions started running high, and the mob started cursing at Adam and Katie.

Katie and Adam had become the villains in the crowd's eyes, villains who deserved to be disgraced and humiliated.

It was Katie's first time witnessing something of the sort. She was angry and wanted to explain that this was not the truth. Yet, her voice was tiny. It was immediately drowned by the cacophony. She knew that they were just trying to slander Adam and her. Yet, no one was willing to believe them.

Adam's expression turned cold, and murderous intent flashed in his eyes.

Suddenly, all the onlookers felt a chill.

"Shut up!" roared Adam. His voice was like thunder, and it drowned all the other voices. He then swept every member of the mob with his icy eyes.

"Why are you talking nonsense when you know nothing of what really happened? Are you trying to ruin the lives of people who might be innocent?

"And reporters, where is your integrity? You did no research whatsoever and are here making false accusations over some rumors. Are you even reporters or just paparazzi after juicy gossip?

"Don't you know how much harm your articles of questionable integrity can bring to others?"

His voice echoed throughout the whole area.

Adam looked at Amanda and Riya and said coldly, "You're lying and instigating the crowd to put pressure on Katie so that she would give in to your unreasonable demands, right?

"Let me spell it for you then, as long as I'm Katie's husband, you can forget about getting a job at her company.

"I don't care if you instigate this crowd or turn the whole city of Lisle upside down, I won't let you force her into doing something she doesn't want.

"As long as I'm here, no one in this world will be able to force her to go against her wishes. So what if I have to fight the world alone? I'll gladly do it for her!"

They all looked at Adam in shock, not sure how to retort. It was a powerful declaration. Not many men would dare to shout such words in front of a large crowd that included reporters with cameras. After all, who would dislike a husband that was willing to do so much for his wife?

Riya was no different.

Riya's heart was filled with jealousy, hatred, and grievance. Tears streamed down her face.

"Adam!" cried out Katie. She then stood on her tiptoes and clung to Adam's neck, kissing him passionately.

Katie closed her eyes, and tears trickled down her face. She no longer cared about the crowd's slanders, nor did she care about what was proper and what was not. All the resentment that had accumulated in the past six years disappeared. At this moment, the only thing she wanted to do was to kiss Adam.

No words could compare to this single kiss. This man was willing to fight the world for her, so it was only natural for her to kiss him in front of the whole world.

This man was her husband. No matter if others called him madman, live-in son-in-law, or trash, he was the husband that Katie had chosen.

The crowd finally returned to its senses. They had been so astonished by Adam's bold words and his love for Katie that they forgot who he was.
