Revenge is Best Served After Reborn (James) -
Chapter 1560
In the past hour, Kena had blown up her phone with calls. But Sophie wasn't fazed. Instead, she just dialed Kena's number with a cool confidence.
Kena picked up almost immediately, her voice tinged with apology. "Ms. Sophie, today Kiran showed up at my place and killed all the servants. I managed to keep Ms. Sandy's whereabouts a secret, but I had no choice but to send her back home. I'm truly sorry." "You don't owe me an apology. Kiran is a force to be reckoned with. The fact that you kept yourself and me under wraps is impressive," Sophie replied, not intending to lay blame at Kena's feet.
Kena let out a breath she didn't realize she was holding. "I'm sorry. This was the first time you seriously asked me to look out for Ms. Sandy, and I blew it."
"Why did Kiran spare you when he took out everyone else?" Sophie asked, her question sharp and probing.
Kena seemed prepared for this, answering, "Maybe... it's because I'm the Gibbs family's heiress. He might not dare to touch me just yet, at least that's what I think."
Sophie wasn't entirely buying it and added with a hint of suspicion, "Funny how Sandy was nowhere to be found, yet Kiran managed to track you down."
That comment made Kena's eyes flicker with unease.
"I've got some matters to handle back in Devonport. Sorry for the trouble, Ms. Leticia," Sophie said, ending the call.
Kena stared at her phone for a moment. Had Sophie figured everything out?
The thought hovered briefly before Kena realized the truth. Sophie knew. The whole call, Sophie had been waiting for her to make a move. It wasn't about what was said or the excuses made; it was about who Kiran thought of first when things went down with Sandy.
Once she understood that it was all a setup by Sophie, Kena couldn't help but smile. She should've realized Sophie was no pushover. But in a way, this made the game all the more intriguing. Back in Devonport:
"Kena? Are you talking about Kena?" Odie asked, his brows knitted in confusion.
By then, Sophie had already flown back to the Aldridge Estate in Devonport.
Picking up on Odie's agitation, Sophie frowned. "Why so tense? Don't look like you're ready to commit murder. You tried to play the game and ended up getting played. There's always someone sharper."
"I should've taken her out from the start! Gotten rid of that threat," Odie said, his eyes dark with intent.
Sophie cut through his bluster with cold clarity. "Let's be real. Even if you could go back, you'd still end up keeping Kena as a pawn, thinking you could use her later. This was a trap set just for you, and your walked right into it."
Odie, stung by Sophie's words, asked with a scowl, "How did you figure out she was up to something?"
"It's simple. Just look at who stood to gain the most in Summerfield after your mess," Sophie replied. "Wouldn't it be the Spellman family?" Odie suggested.
