Beatrice had an obsessive hold over the Burke family and James, even dictating who her son's father could marry. And Ruby was Beatrice's cousin's daughter.

"How could Beatrice, a lady with absolute control over the Burke family, possibly let the family fall into your hands? My sources say she sent someone to inform the Reeves family to find someone to replace James as the head of Burke International," Gordon added. Sophie was taken aback. "But... I heard there isn't a suitable male in the current generation of the Reeves family."

"Who says a woman can't run Burke International?" Gordon responded lightly. "Elodie, this girl, is quite remarkable."

"First, to Burke Estate. I want to see Gordon."

Her voice was as melodious as the sound of pearls dropping onto a jade plate. "But..."

"No need for you to follow; I'll go on my own."

Elodie put her luggage in the trunk and drove off to Burke Estate, leaving several bodyguards standing disheveled in the airport breeze. Later that day, at Burke Estate-

"Mr. Adler, your hotel bill was sent to Colby. As you know, he's broke, so he asked me to find out what this bill is all about."

Adler swallowed nervously. "This... that..."

Thinking quickly, Jenna said, "The other night he got drunk and started a fight with a dog on the street, so I took him to the hotel, but I didn't have my wallet!"
