Revenge On My First Love -
Chapter 424 Asking For A Second Child
Chapter 424 Asking for a Second Child
Bard approached, "Is it really reasonable, Mom? Sophia already has a daughter."
"So what? She can still have a son."
'Have a son?'
It scared Drake a lot.
"Mom, my family doesn't strongly require me to have a son. Baby girls and boys are equally treated."
"Equally treated?" Laura glared at him.
Drake got nervous, "Mom, I'm not lying. You don't have to consider my grandpa. When we visited Bonnie the day before, he gave her the heirloom as a sign of recognition." "Oh, is that true?"
Drake looked at Sophia, "You didn't tell Mom?"
"No. I thought I can tell her when we are here."
Laura patted Drake's arm, "You brat! I mean, in the Lawson family, a baby girl has a higher status than a boy does. But your family treats them the same. It's not okay!"
'So that is what it is.'
He had thought he did something wrong.
"Don't worry, Mom. I believe such a great tradition will germinate in the Riley family. From now on, a girl has a higher status than a boy does in the Riley family."
Laura smiled, "That's more like it."
Actually, Sophia could feel that a girl was cherished in the Riley family. Aria was a good example.
Drake finally got it, "So, what you meant is, if the amount of the dumplings left was odd, then it means we should have a boy, and if it was even, then we'll have a baby girl."
Bard gave him a thumbs-up.
Well, Drake had no idea of that.
"We..." He looked at Sophia, who simply ignored him. Drake turned to Laura and Abbott immediately, "Mom, Dad, it was excruciating to give birth. It's enough that Sophia has brought Bonnie to this world. We don't need to have another child."
"What? Of course it's painful. But you must know, it won't be that excruciating to have a second child."
"Plus, I must warn you, if Sophia is pregnant, she mustn't have an abortion. If I ever knew she did it, I would not spare you. If you don't want to raise another one, just send the kid over here." Sophia turned to Laura, "Mom, that was your true intention, wasn't it?"
Seeing that Bonnie was about to leave them, she had no excuse to ask her to stay, so she came up with another idea. Classic.
Laura put on a poker face, "It's a warning. Who knows what you guys will do in order to enjoy your private moments?"
As there was more and more tension between Laura and Sophia, Drake came to Sophia and put his hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry, Mom. If Sophia's really pregnant, she will never have an abortion. And when the kid is born, I'll send it to you."
A smile appeared on Laura's face immediately, "Thank god I have a great son-in-law."
Sophia turned her head and glared at him, "What are you talking about?"
"Don't worry, Sophia. I won't let Mom down. I'll work harder."
"It seems my son-in-law is more trustworthy than my daughter. You have all my support, Drake."
Laura said that with a smile the whole time. She was increasingly satisfied with her son-in-law.
When Laura was off to do some work, Sophia asked with anger, "We agreed not to have another child, didn't we?"
"It's our call whether to have another child. It won't hurt you to say something nice to your mother."
It seemed what he truly meant was she shouldn't go against her mom.
"I'm trying to discourage her from wanting another grandchild. What if I no longer want to have a baby and she gets so anxious that she starts pushing me?" The corner of his mouth curved upward, "You are afraid of that?"
"Aren't you afraid of that?"
Though her mother had never pushed her in terms of having a baby. It was scary enough to watch those scenes on TV.
"There's nothing to be afraid of. If they really want it so much, we can have a baby."
"Seriously? It's not like playing clay."
He couldn't help cracking a smile, "You seem pretty averse to this stuff."
"It hurts."
It had merely been a year since she gave birth to Bonnie. She remembered it quite well.
"Alright. We are not having a baby right now. We'll do it whenever you are ready."
"I will never be ready."
"Then we are not having a baby."
He agreed to whatever she said.
Maybe it was because of that, she felt much better.
Since they were in Pinkerton, they didn't leave immediately. Instead, they decided to spend a night here.
It was a long night, so Bard proposed to play some games. In fact, even Sophia could see that her four brothers were going to play tricks on Drake.
Before Sophia could utter a word, Drake agreed without hesitation, "Sure, what do you want to play?"
Bard looked at his brothers, "What about 'Blackjack'?"
"Okay."
Then he looked at Drake, who answered, "Fine by me."
Sophia added, "Count me in."
"Are you kidding me? It's men's game."
As he was saying, Bard started shuffling cards.
Sophia was dissatisfied, "What? It's sex discrimination."
"You are not playing with us. Forget about it."
Of course Sophia knew what was going on in their mind, which was exactly why she wanted to join the game. But Drake pressed her hand, patted her, and told her not to worry. Bard began to deal cards. After dealing two cards, he asked, "Do you want another one?"
Sophia could see the cards in Drake's hand, they added up to twelve. "Yes."
Bard gave him another one and kept staring at him.
"No."
It was Bard's turn to be the banker. He said, "Drake, your turn to show your cards."
It was twenty-two.
"You lost."
Sophia looked at Drake, "You are really not good at this. How come you can exceed with a twelve?"
Drake didn't seem to mind it, "It's alright. Just a game."
So Drake had been losing the whole time. Her four brothers were more than happy, as if they had won some lottery.
Sophia was not happy, "Hey, slow down. If I figure out you are bullying my husband, you are going to be kicked hard."
Edwin replied in a dissatisfied manner, "What's that supposed to mean, Sophia? We've been taking care of you when you were this little. And now, the minute you get married, you take his side."
"Well. Shouldn't I take my husband's side? His money is mine now, while yours is still yours. It's not the same," she said confidently.
