Chapter 3: Rejection

Chloe POV

It was now 2:00am, time for us to get going. We just need to get by border patrol and we would finally be free. I wish I had a chance to speak with my best friend Tessa before leaving, but there’s just no time. I know she would understand, she knows how poorly I’m treated by the Alpha and she has always encouraged me to runaway.

I left my room and made my way downstairs, where my mother was waiting for me.

“Happy 19th birthday, Chloe.” My mother said, with a sad smile. Is it really a happy birthday? Maybe if we make it out of here, it could be.

“Thanks mom, you ready to go?” I asked, as I swung my backpack over my shoulders.

“Yes.” She replied, nervously.

“Let’s go then, we have a long night ahead of us.” I said and headed for the front door.

I opened it cautiously and looked around outside before leaving. I wanted to make sure no one was watching my house, after the encounter I had with Alpha Cameron, I wouldn’t be surprised if he sent warriors to keep an eye on me.

I didn’t see anyone, so we both stepped outside and I shut the door, before we quickly made our way to the tree line.

We started moving through the forest, my wolf was on high alert. Hopefully we can avoid border patrol, If not, my wolf will definitely need to come forward.

We were almost at the border, I could see it. That’s when the most intoxicating smell, hit me like a freight train. It was a mix of musk and something slightly smokey and woodsy, it was addictive.

I heard a twig snap in front of us and I watched, as Alpha Cameron step out of a bush, blocking our way to the border. He had a sinister look on his face.

My wolf was going crazy in my head. She was having mixed feelings about everything going on and I finally under stood why, when she spoke.

‘Mate’ she growled.

Alpha Cameron, is our fated mate.

A wolf’s, main purpose in life, is to find the other half of their soul, their mate. But my wolf Tatiana, hates Alpha Cameron for how he’s treated us and wants nothing to do with him or his wolf. It’s very rare for wolves to reject their mate, it’s like giving up half of your soul and you would live the rest of your life feeling incomplete. Tatiana and I, both agree that feeling incomplete, would be better than being mated to Alpha Cameron.

I pushed my mother behind my back, trying to shield her from him.

All of a sudden, more of his men came out from behind the trees, including his Beta, Mike and Gamma, Joe. We were now completely surrounded.

“Happy Birthday, Mate.” Alpha Cameron said, popping the M in the word, mate. I could see the dangerous look on his face, that caused a chill to run down my spine. How could this be happening to me?

“I’ve waited a whole year, for you to sense me as your mate. Do you know how hard that was?” He said, while standing dangerously close to me. I didn’t replied, Tatiana was growling in my head and wanted to take control. We wouldn’t make it far though, there’s to many of them and my mothers wolf isn’t very strong. I would be putting her at risk if I fought.

“I knew, as soon as I let you leave my office today, that you would try and run. Do you think I’m that stupid, that I wouldn’t have my men watch you?” He spat out and now I could hear the venom in his words. I didn’t answer, what the hell would I say?

“Answer me!” He shouted and I flinched at the anger in his tone.

“I’m sor…” I started to apologize, but he cut me off.

“You’re sorry? That’s all you have to say?” He laughed out dryly.

“How could the moon goddess bless me with such a pathetic she-wolf? You can’t even access your wolf, you’re weak and useless.” He said angrily.

“I would never accept a mate like you.” He said, while glaring at me with disgust in my eyes.

“Fine, reject me, so we can both move on.” I said in a confident voice.

“You think it’s that simple? I plan on rejecting you, but If you thought that meant I’m going to let you leave, you’re wrong. I’m going to keep you as a toy, something to play with when I’m bored. I’ll keep you around, until I completely break your pathetic weak soul. When I’m done with you, I’ll let my men over here, have whatever scraps are left of you.” He said, with a disgusting smirk on his face, while motioned to his men. I glanced over at them and they all had l**t filled eyes, while looking back at me. I will never let any of that happen, not unless I’m dead first.

I could feel my mother’s body trembling against my back, she hadn’t said a word yet.

“Take Trisha into custody.” Alpha Cameron ordered and two of his men stepped forward, before grabbing ahold of my mother arms and pulling her away from me.

“No.” I yelled, as I started to fight his men.

“Don’t Chloe, just do as he says.” My mother said in a concerned voice, while silently warning me with her eyes not to shift.

“Now, how about we get to that rejection, so I can finally find my second chance mate, someone worthy of being with me.” He said, looking amused with the situation.

I didn’t reply. Tatiana and I just wanted the rejection over with. He’s a disgusting person and neither one of us, will be mourn the mate bond after the rejection is done.

“I, Alpha Cameron, of the Desert Hill Pack, reject you, Chloe, as my mate and Luna.” He said, with a satisfied smirk on his face.

I felt a stabbing sensation in my heart, but I welcomed it. It was painful confirmation, that the bond was being severed. I stood tall and didn’t even flinch. I could see the surprise in his face. He probably expected me to be so weak, that i would curl up in fetal position from the pain.

“I, Chloe, an Omega of the Desert Hill Pack, accept your rejection. I also sever all ties to the Desert Hill Pack and accept my new status, as a Rogue.” I spat out in a confident voice, the words were laced with anger. He had a shocked look on his face, as he covered his heart with his hands and fell to his knees. I could see, he was fighting to mask the pain.

The pain I was feeling, was only fuelling my desire for freedom and the need to leave this territory once and for all.

He got back on his feet and his shock had now turned to rage.

“You think you can leave me, think again. I’ll keep you chained up in my room, for as long as I want and there’s nothing you can do about it.” He spat out angrily and stalked towards me, before punching me in the face. I instantly fell to the ground and darkness invaded my vision, I was fighting to remain conscious.

He kicked me repeatedly in the stomach and face. I was barely hanging on, when he finally stopped.

“Now, how about we deal with your punishment.” I heard him say and opened my eyes, to see him walking towards my mother.

“No! Punish me, not her. This was my idea, I’ll do anything you want, just let her go.” I begged, while dragging my battered body towards him.

He now stood directly in front of her.

Before I could react. I watched, as he partially shifted his hand into his wolf form, extending his long sharp claws and in one swift motion, he sliced them across my mothers throat. I saw b***d gush out of her now open throat, her eyes flew wide open in shock.

“No!!!!“ I screamed out.

The two guys that were holding onto my mothers arms, let go of her and she dropped to the ground holding onto her throat. I could hear gurgling, as she tried to breath, but couldn’t.

I dragged myself over to her and started to sob uncontrollably. I realize how deep the wounds were and she wasn’t going to make it.

I watched my mother take her last breath, while I held her in my arms. So many emotions were running through me, grief, sadness, disbelief and the now most prominent one, rage.

“Now, I think I’ve made it clear what will happen to you, the next time you try and runaway away from me.” Alpha Cameron said, as he reached down to grab my arm.

At that moment, something deep inside my soul broke and I let Tatiana take over.

I retreated to a dark place at the back on my mind, where I could grieve the loss of my mother in silence.

Tatiana POV

I didn’t waste time when I got control and I shifted into my wolf form. I’m a large wolf, with fur the same red tone as my hair.

Rage was bubbling inside me, I wanted b***d. Alpha Cameron, took the most important person from me and I plan on ending his life for it.

I saw the shocked look on his face, when he realized that not only did I have a wolf, but that I was larger than an Omega. My size is comparable to that of an Alpha.

“Capture her, alive! He barked at his men. I watched as they all shifted into their wolves. There were five of them, including Alpha Cameron.

One immediately attacked me but I was quicker, I jumped out of the way and as he slid by me, I extended my claws and tore through the length of his torso. I heard him yelp in pain, as he fell to the ground.

Two more attacked simultaneously and I got knocked to the ground. I jumped up and latched my teeth around the neck of one of them and ripped it out, killing him instantly. The taste of b***d in my mouth, made me crave more.

The second one tried to jump on my back, but I spun my head around and bit down on his hind leg. He yelped in pain, at the action.

I turned around just in time to see Alpha Cameron approaching me with a syringe. He extending his hand, like he was going to jab me with it.

I quickly bit down on his hand, causing him to drop the syringe. I had bitten him so hard, that I ripped off his pinky finger in the process.

‘Awww…You b***h!” He shouted out in pain.

As much as I wanted to end him, right here and now. I could hear more warriors approaching. Pretty soon, I would be severely outnumbered if I stuck around.

I turned away from Alpha Cameron and ran as fast as I could towards the border.

I could see a few wolves, paralleling me on both sides. Luckily for me, I’m also faster than the average wolf. The further I ran, I noticed the wolves starting to fall behind. I didn’t slowdown. I wouldn’t, not until I was sure that I was far enough away.

I had been running for hours, the adrenaline kept me going. I rolled my body through a puddle of mud to mask my scent. I couldn’t sense any wolves nearby, hopefully I lost them. I kept pushing forward, wanting to be absolutely sure that I wasn’t being followed.

I came across a creek, i decided to get in and follow it along. That way, no one would be able to track me. I followed it for another few hours.

It was starting to get dark and I was feeling confident that I wasn’t being followed anymore. I decided to find a place to rest for the night.

I found a cave and couldn’t smell any other animals in it. I walked in and was happy to see it empty. I collapsed onto the ground, feeling completely exhausted.

I was finally able to grieve, not only the loss of my mother, but my human half. Goddess, I already miss hearing her voice inside my head.

I hope when she heals, she will come back to me, I don’t know if I can do this alone.
