Soulmate Of A True Alpha -
Scene 52
The waitress puts our food on the table and leaves after we thank her.
Dad: So? I heard you’re going to Stanford?
I smile. I don’t even have time to think about Stanford.
Me: Yes! I can’t believe it myself! It’s all thanks to Lydia! I really…
The image of Lydia flashes before my eyes. Lying on the ground, a huge wound on her side, her face full of sweat. I hope I can see her soon.
Dad: Are you all right?
Me: Yes, I’m fine… Lydia is… She’s in hospital.
Dad: Oh no! I’m so sorry, darling! What happened?
Me: It’s a… Long story.
He nods. I take a butcher of my dish and our conversation becomes more cheerful. I slip away to go to the toilet. I stand in front of the mirror but I feel a horrible pain in my shoulder. I g***n in pain and concentrate on the pain. Stiles. Stiles is in danger! I send a quick message to Dad and teleport myself to where he is. At school. Where the hell is he?! His car is there with the bumper open and smoking ! I concentrate on him, he’s the library ! I teleport over there. Stiles is climbing the scaffolding to get away from… Donovan?! He… He’s a chimera?! Donovan climbs the scaffolding and grabs Stiles’ leg. I’m running towards them as I transform. I can’t do anything without risking hurting Stiles! I look around but before I can do anything, the scaffolding collapses and the two boys fall. I manage to cushion Stiles’ fall with my powers and his eyes quickly land on me before looking around the room. He stops and looks behind us. I turn round. No. Donovan. A pipe passes through him. I have tears in my eyes. There’s nothing I can do. His eyes close and I look at Stiles in panic.
Me: We have to get out of here and fast, Stiles!
Stiles: But… What about Donovan?
I look around the library and stop at the phone.
Me: Go to your car. I’ll meet you in two minutes.
It takes him a few seconds to react and run towards the exit. I call the police to warn them and then teleport next to Stiles. He looks down at his hands covered in Donovan’s b***d. He panics. I gently take his hands and he looks at me, his eyes full of sadness.
I’ve… I killed…
Me: No, Stiles, stop. You defended yourself, you couldn’t have done anything else, I saw the whole thing and it was self-defence.
He continues to mutter words that I don’t understand and I hold him against me. As soon as he sobs, the silence breaks. We stayed like that until the police arrived, but they left after just a few minutes, without Donovan’s body. What are they doing? Why are they leaving him here?
Me: We’ve got to go Stiles, I’ll drive.
He nods and we switch places. Stiles finally falls asleep against the window and I stroke his hand with my thumb.
Everything will be different now, that’s for sure.
