Substitute for The Alpha King -
Chapter 31: Secrets
She gasped, this was not something that she had expected to see especially because the two of them stood so close and Shawn was the one who was talking to him, it seemed as if he was listening to him as he spoke. He didn't expect Shawn and G to have such a good relationship that they would have to meet up in the middle of the night. She wondered if he was also the same person that Shawn goes out to meet with every other night, fear engulfed her. What are they yours to? What is between them? What are they talking about?
So many things ran through her mind as she wondered what it was that they had been talking about, but she couldn't strain her ear any further so it did not start hurting get, but one thing was pretty clear to her, those two didn't just meet each other recently, they have known each other for awhile, and share something in common for Shawn to be meeting up with him like this.
She wondered a lot of things as she returned home that day, though she was glad that he was not stealing or doing anything bad, she still did not know what they were talking about.
"What are they talking about?" She raked her hand through her hair.
When she heard the sound of the door opening, she rushed into her bedroom, she did not want to ask him about it since he would find out that she had followed him and that wasn't what she wanted. The only thing that she wanted was to find out what they were talking about. However, now was not a good time for them to ask him about it.
She peeped at him through the open doorway as he made his way into his bedroom and shut the door. As she watched him walk past her, one thing echoed in her head; secrets, they had their secrets, she always had that secret that she was trying to protect but she had no clue that he had his secrets as well that he kept away from her.
Who am I married to? She thought as her time with Shawn flashed through her mind, she didn't want to walk down through that memory jump so she pushed the thought out of her head choosing to focus on nothing as she turned around and went to bed. The sun filtered through the window as the aroma of food wafted across the room, Shawn got up from his bed feeling woozy, anyone would have assumed that he had a little too much to drink, but that wasn't the case since he didn't have anything to drink with G. It was just business and nothing more, he was his friend and someone that he could count on at any time to help him out. G was a nice man, last night with him was rather too short but they ended up talking about so many things that were happening in his absence. Was it time for him to return? He raked his hand through his hair as he got out of bed and made his way towards the door. Hannah was setting the Breakfast table, she had become a routine for her before she left the house, she left it with a little note for him to eat his breakfast. However, today it was a bit different, she was right there setting the table, she leaves the house very early on other days and would not really wait for him to wake up if he doesn't wake up early, which he doesn't.
Shawn was not a morning person all the time, he was just up when you needed him and when you didn't, he would rather stay in bed than bother to be up.
"You are still around"
"Cancelled the meeting this morning, said I should have breakfast here at home, relaxed without having to worry about anything at all" "And your boss? Won't they have a problem with you coming in late?"
"I have stayed in the company for more than one month now, I am pretty sure that they will have eyes for the new recruits and not me"
Hannah got comfortable on the seat since Mike and Ashley were still not back in the office so she had life easy at the company. She was starting to know some of her colleagues, not that they were friends, they weren't friends at all, but she would hear them talking about themselves and sometimes about their families, that was how she was getting to know them. Some of them have tried talking to her several times and she responded favorably to them. Her boss still recognized her good contribution to the company and her utmost devotion to getting her job done at the right time.
"You are right, are they have on the new recruits?"
"Sometimes, only when you don't get your job done on time but other than that, there is no such problem"
She thought that he would bring up the last night but he didn't, he didn't talk about it or try to ask her if she heard any sound like the sound of the door closing. Hannah was worried once again as she took a pancake and poured some maple syrup over it. "Pancakes?" He smiled as he rubbed his palms together.
"You don't like them?"
"No, of course, I like them, this is what everyone eats for breakfast nowadays not to mention, waffles, I love the two together. I mean not like having together but having them for breakfast,"
"I get what you mean"
Her response was different, he thought as he looked at her. There was a sudden sadness that lingered in her eyes, which got him worried and he wondered if he was the reason for it or did something happened at her workplace. It didn't seem like the latter since she seemed to be happy getting to work and getting off work. Though he wasn't home most of the days that she got back from work he would still get to see her face because she was waiting for him.
Though most times that she waited for him, he would come home only to find out that she had fallen asleep, that was something that would make him smile before carrying her off to bed. He knew that keeping things from her was not always good especially when she came to find out about it, but that seemed like the best option at the moment, she had a lot weighing on her shoulders even though he didn't know what they really are but he wouldn't want to burden her even more with it.
"Are you alright?"
She smiled. "Of course I am, why won't I be alright?" Hannah was still thinking about last night and what she had seen but she would not want him to suspect anything at all. What happened was something she was fighting so hard not to bring up on the Breakfast table. "Alright, let's dig in, I can really have more of these" he had a warm smile glues to his face
