Veronique was taken aback for a moment, baffled by his sudden reaction.

“Didn't you always want to marry Scarlett? I just asked you to marry her sooner for the sake of saving Zephyr!”

“You...”

Justin was furious. After staring at her delicate face for a long moment, he lowered his head and started laughing.

“Veronique, how could you be so cruel? How could you sacrifice me for the sake of saving our son?”

Veronique was even more confused. She stared at him in bewilderment and asked blankly, “If it was not for Zephyr, would you have entertained the thought of breaking up your engagement with Scarlett?”

Justin froze on the spot.

Veronique chuckled bitterly, pushed him away slowly, and said in a sad tone, “Justin, I don't know why you're being so difficult now. I just hope that you can take Zephyr's life seriously. Scarlett is the only person who can save him now! Don't you think that, as a father, you should agree to all of the requests that Scarlett makes? Everything is worth it as long she's willing to donate her bone marrow to Zephyr.”

Justin scoffed and sneered, “Veronique, you are quite the saint, aren't you?”

Veronique bit her lip and said nothing.

Landing a punch on the wall beside Veronique, Justin said through gritted teeth, “All right. As you wish, I'll marry Scarlett and persuade her to donate her bone marrow.”

With that, he threw away the cane in his hand and limped toward the end of the corridor.

Veronique's legs buckled, and she slumped onto the ground. She looked at his leaving figure, and tears rolled from the corners of her eyes.

This was the best solution she could think of to minimize the damage.

I'm sorry, Justin. In order to save Zephyr, I have no choice but to sacrifice you.

In the study in Shelbert Condominium, Bailey looked at the pair of children in front of her and sighed. “I know the two of you like Hallsbay very much, but we really have to leave this city this time. You guys go pack your things, as we might leave the country anytime.”

Zayron and Susan exchanged looks, seeing the doubt in each other's eyes.

“Mommy, you're doing so well in Hallsbay. Why do you want to leave all of a sudden?”

Bailey did not explain. She caressed Susan's head and said with a smile, “The same old rule—just do as I say. You don't have to ask so much because even if I explain it, you may not understand.”

Susan wanted to speak, but she was stopped by Zayron grabbing her hand. He gestured for her to stop asking questions. She pouted and stepped back gloomily.

Zayron gave his mother a smile and said, “Bailey, we'll follow you wherever you go.”

Despite saying that, Zayron was planning something else in his heart.

Bailey wants to escape from Hallsbay? No way! I will not let that happen! I finally found my rich and powerful dad, and I haven't gained any benefits from him yet. I'm not going to let go easily. As for my mom... I guess selling her to any man is the same. Isn't it better to sell her to Artemis since they've at least slept together before? He managed to make three babies in one night! I think he's pretty strong. He should be able to handle my ferocious mother.

After Bailey left, Zayron chased Susan out too, leaving himself alone in the study. He then sent Artemis a text message: Ratemis, my mom is about to run away. Please make sure that she's not able to get out of Hallsbay. If she leaves, it will be very difficult for you to get her back in the future.

Artemis was drinking with a few clients at Golden Age Hotel when he received the text message from Zayron. He curled his lips into a sly smile.

This kid is kind of smart. At least he doesn't mess around when it comes to his mother.

Artemis replied: Okay, I got it. Please watch over her closely. Don't forget that if you want to inherit my huge underground forces, you have to help me get your mother.

Zayron was overjoyed when he received the reply from his father.

His main concern was not whether Artemis was his biological father. He was only interested in those underground forces in Artemis' hands. For the sake of that, he did not mind selling his mother off.

At a café by the corner of the street, two middle-aged men were sitting opposite each other in a private room on the second floor. They were discussing the new drug produced by Dyke Pharmaceutical.

“Mr. White, I have a feeling that Bailey seems to have discovered something. Recently, she has been visiting the pharmaceutical factory quite frequently. This drug was invented by her. Do you think she will not notice that we tampered with the drug?” said the person in charge of Dyke Pharmaceutical, Kayden.

His face was wrought with anxiety and nervousness.

While making the coffee, Cadence said slowly, “Of course she will notice it. In fact, she has already discovered that someone tampered with the drug.”

Cadence looked at him calmly and answered, “Why are you so worried? Have you forgotten that we have a scapegoat? If we can make Zoey responsible for this, then we can walk away from this safely.”

Kayden swallowed and said with difficulty, “But your target is Bailey. If we make Zoey the scapegoat, it would deviate from what you've planned.”

Cadence shook his head helplessly and sighed. “I didn't expect Bailey to be so cautious. She even

supervised the whole production process of the drug. Perhaps I acted too flamboyantly previously, and it attracted her attention. Hence, she has been keeping an eye on the production process. In the living room at the Shurmer residence, Waverly was chatting with Zoey when the butler suddenly rushed in. “Mrs. Shurmer, the people from the Department of Justice are here! They said they want to meet with Ms. Zoey for official business.”

“What?” Zoey sprang to her feet when she heard that.

Her face turned pale instantly.
