Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 460
Chad had been keeping tabs on the Cedillo Group's recent activities. He speculated, "Andre, are you planning to turn Ashford Inc. into the next Calder Corporation?"
"Hmm." Andre gestured to his wife towards his study. Even though Mia was reluctant, she obediently took her water bottle and went into the study.
Chad warned, "With more subsidiaries, your risk isn't necessarily smaller."
Andre chuckled. He was accustomed to planning for everything. Without absolute certainty, he would not take risks. "Apart from you, who knows that Ashford Inc. will be the next Calder Corporation?"
Calder Corporation was now a formidable force, a billion-dollar enterprise that had recently swallowed up the Marshal Group. Everyone knew about their close ties with the Cedillo Group, but no one knew that they were under Andre's command. Despite Calder Corporation's strength, Mr. Calder was still willing to listen to Andre and showed no intention of breaking free from the Cedillo Group's control to develop independently.
"So who are you planning to hand this over to?" Chad wondered if he was going to let Leo take a shot.
However, Andre's decision surprised Chad. "Alice will take over."
Chad was taken aback. "Aren't you afraid she'll betray you?"
Andre answered with a laugh, "She won't, and she doesn't dare."
Even though it was a laugh, Chad could hear his dominance. Indeed, no one dared to betray Andre.
Chad arrived at the station and ended the call with Andre.
"Captain, we've received another call from Finley's university. Holly's parents are causing a scene again, and the university administration wants us to intervene," a junior officer reported.
After the police started searching for Holly, they visited her hometown. Her family learned of her scandalous actions. Outraged, they began causing a commotion at the university, demanding answers. The university had no choice but to call the police for assistance. Later on, the students were gossiping, speculating wildly.
"I heard Holly wanted to continue her study, and Finley had a quota. You don't think she slept with him because of that, do you?"
"Nah, I think she's after Finley's money. Think about it. If she gets together with Finley and they have a kid or two, once Finley is gone, all his wealth would be hers."
"You guys don't know, do you? Finley broke the law. He's being investigated by the authorities."
"For real? Where did you hear that?"
"It's all over the grapevine. Have you noticed? Finley's name used to be on our university's list of distinguished teachers. Now you can't even find a trace of him on our website."
Their open discussion was overheard by a man in a baseball cap eating in the cafeteria, who was listening intently. Tom lowered his cap, leaving his half-eaten meal, and, wearing a mask, he left the place.
He had been missing for a long time, and the police had issued a citywide bulletin for him. Even Holly, whom he had taken with him, had not been spared. All assets under Finley's name had been frozen by Chad.
As the situation took a turn for the worse, Holly had been crying all day. She wanted to leave; she was scared. Being with Finley had brought her nothing but trouble and now she was on the run.
But Tom couldn't let Holly go. If she returned to the city, her unborn child would be in danger if the all-powerful Cedillo family got a hold of them.
Despite Holly's tears, Tom's only demand was, "Keep the baby."
Before, he could take her to a back-alley clinic for check-ups. Now, with surveillance everywhere, he could not take the risk. So, he locked Holly in the house when he went out, monitoring the movements in Havenbrook on his own. To his surprise, Jack had managed to offend both Andre and Chad.
When he arrived at the hospital, Tom went straight to Jack's room. He entered and looked at the man bandaged up in bed. "Who are you?"
Tom removed his cap and mask. "Jack, do you remember me?"
Seeing the familiar yet unfamiliar face, Jack suddenly remembered, "It's you." Tom had previously met him privately to discuss issues regarding Finley and Mr. Marlow.
Tom looked Jack over. "Who did this to you? They were ruthless."
Jack glared at Tom. "Aren't you a wanted man? What are you doing here?"
Tom sat down. "I heard that Jack has recently been targeted by Andre and Chad. You and I have a common enemy, so naturally, I came to visit."
Mentioning Andre and Chad brought a look of intense hatred to Jack's face.
"I also came to propose a deal that could benefit you greatly," Tom said, smiling like a sly hyena.
"What deal?" Jack asked.
Tom's eyes were filled with cunning. "A deal that could land Andre in jail and drag Chad down with him."
Jack was interested. He was currently at a loss as to how to retaliate, so naturally, he wanted to hear Tom out.
"There's a man in the intensive care unit on the third floor who's been beaten half to death by Andre. I'll put him out of his misery, and you... call the police."
Jack was confused, "What do you mean?"
Tom looked at the clueless Jack with disdain, but he needed him to draw attention at the moment. Therefore, he swallowed his contempt. "I'll do the killing, and you just remember to call the cops. The bigger the commotion, the better. Everyone will know that Ellory in the ICU on the third floor was brutally killed by business titan Andre! Spread the word! In the eyes of capitalists, human lives are as insignificant as ants. They can kill whoever they want, which should stir up public outrage.
"Then the police will have no choice but to step in, possibly even arresting Andre. Once the police are involved, Chad will inevitably offend the Cedillo family, so the relationship between the two families will freeze over. Tell me, what good end can a small police captain expect after offending the Cedillo Corporation?
"If Chad decides to sit on his hands and do nothing, his career at the precinct would be over. Even if no one catches him, Andre has committed a murder. This is a big deal. How could the higher-ups let him slide?
"Why would this have no negative consequences for me?"
Tom's disdain for the man in front of him, who was as clueless as a rat in a maze, intensified. If it had not been for lack of suitable candidates, he wouldn't even have considered dealing with Jack.
He decided to deceive Jack, only highlighting the benefits for him. "I'm the one who did the killing, so you're not involved. At most, you just reported it. When those two finally face their comeuppance, it will be just as we hoped."
Jack believed Tom's words. He asked, "When should I make the call?"
"We can't give Andre any time to discover what's happened. Make the report in half an hour." After saying that, Tom stood up, donned his cap and mask, and left the hospital room.
Jack lay on the bed, contemplating Tom's words. Regardless of the circumstances, he had to give it a shot. He had to bring down Andre and Chad for the company's losses and his own personal injuries! After all, this situation held no downside for him.
