Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 492
**"What's got you smiling like that?" Chad asked.
Molly set aside the lunch box and waved the surrounding officers over to eat. She then nudged Chad towards his office. "Big Bro, Mom's cancer check-up came back clear. The doctor says she's healthy and can be discharged." Chad's face lit up with a smile, "That's definitely something to celebrate."
Molly, eager to share the good news, had stopped on her way to the police station to pick up a big, steaming dish of roast chicken.
Outside, the officers were already digging into their meals, calling out for Chad to join them.
"You know, our captain's fondness for Molly is beyond just 'fond"," one officer commented. "He wouldn't even glance at the meals Vivian brings, but when Molly shows up, he personally greets her at the door." "Molly's different," another officer added. "To Officer Chad, even a meal cooked by Vivian can't compete with a takeout Molly buys."
Just then, a curious voice chimed in, "Who's Vivian?"
Molly joined the conversation, her gaze shifting between the two officers. "What's she doing with my brother?"
Chad, following closely behind, overheard the chatter. Fearing Molly's temper might flare, he quickly grasped her arm, "Let's eat in my office. I'll explain."
"Let go of me. I don't want your explanation, I want theirs," Molly said, trying to shake off Chad's grip.
Sensing the tension, one of the officers quickly redirected the explanation to Chad, "Molly, we don't know her. But the captain does. Let him explain."
Molly turned to Chad, demanding, "Who is she? What does she do? Why is she bringing you meals? How many times has this happened?"
Molly's barrage of questions made the officers feel like they were witnessing a jealous wife interrogating her husband.
Chad, noticing the fire in Molly's eyes, tried to calm her, "That's Vivian. It's her first time here. She wanted to visit Mom at the hospital..."
Before Chad could finish, Molly cut him off, visibly angered, "Doesn't she have her own mother to visit? Why visit mine? And why is she bringing food to my brother instead of hers?" Molly huffed, asking again, "Did you eat the food she brought?"
Chad's stern face softened at Molly's jealousy, a hint of a smile appearing, "Would I?"
At that moment, an officer chimed in, "Not only did he not eat it, he even scolded her and had her sent away."
Only then did Molly's temper subside. With a stern face, she asked Chad, "Really, bro?"
Chad nodded with a smile, "I only eat the food you bring."
Molly's mood shifted instantly. Her anger melted away, replaced with happiness, "That's more like it, Big Bro. Don't let yourself be seduced by some random women." Officer Chad: "..."
Cody, midway through his meal, choked at Molly's possessive remark. Especially because Chad agreed to it with a simple, "Alright."
Molly, looking at her doting brother, felt a wave of sweetness, "Bro, I love you."
Chad, staring into Molly's eyes, replied with a smile, "I'll give you all the chances to love me."
After her brief visit to the police station, Molly left feeling quite satisfied.
When Chad returned to his meal, Cody humorously asked him, "Captain, with Molly's domineering nature, she might have a hard time finding a partner in the future." Chad casually replied, "If she can't find one, then so be it. I'll take over."
The officers, in the middle of their meals, stared at the nonchalant Officer Chad in disbelief.
...
Although Molly wasn't jealous anymore, she still wasn't pleased that Vivian had visited Chad. It felt as if Chad was tainted just by being around Vivian.
Her possessiveness was just like Andre's; she wouldn't even allow her rivals to appear before him.
Back at the hospital, Molly tossed and turned on the couch, only managing to fall asleep late at night.
When Chad arrived the next morning to bring breakfast, she was still asleep.
She almost rolled off the couch, but Chad quickly caught her.
"Bro-" Molly mumbled sleepily. Chad's heart softened at her soft, coquettish call.
"Hmm, want to sleep on my lap?"
Molly, eyes closed, nodded in Chad's arms.
Coleen, observing them, suggested from the bed, "Why not let her sleep on the bed instead? When I went to the bathroom at one in the morning, she was tossing and turning on the couch like a worm." Molly, who was affectionately described as a worm by her mother, clung onto Chad's neck, "No, I want to sleep on my brother's lap."
Coleen teased, "Why don't you have your brother hold you while you sleep?"
Molly, with a shameless grin, decided not to lie on the couch anymore. She nestled in Chad's arms, "Bro, hold me to sleep." Chad chuckled tenderly.
Molly was feeling drowsy, but after bantering with her mom, she was wide awake.
After lounging in Chad's arms for a while, she got up to freshen up.
Shortly, the doctor arrived for his rounds, and Chad went to complete the discharge procedures for their mother.
Back at the company, everything was in order for Coleen's return. They planned to hold a meeting the day after her discharge.
On the way home, Molly stretched in the car, "Mom's discharged! I can finally be a couch potato."
Chad chuckled at her words. The couple in the backseat joined in the laughter.
Coleen reminded her daughter, "The doctor said I shouldn't overwork. You've been managing the company pretty well recently. Why not continue to assist me?"
"No way! I want to be a couch potato. Nobody can stop me." Molly had always been ambitious about this.
The morning was warm and sunny. Molly was in high spirits, taking selfies with her family in the car.
Kendrick played along with his daughter's antics. Coleen leaned on her husband's shoulder. Chad was driving, and Molly was in charge of taking photos.
Upon arriving home, Coleen felt as if it had been a long time since she returned. A wave of emotions washed over her.
It took a severe illness for her to truly see people for who they are.
Her in-laws never say it out loud, but she knows they truly care about her.
Although she and her husband sometimes have disagreements, this time, when she was struggling with nausea and vomiting in the middle of the night, he stayed by her side, sleepless. He was there every moment she needed him, never leaving her side.
Her daughter, Molly, who she's always been most worried about, usually acts like a child, always clinging to her brother like when they were little. But during her illness, Molly was almost always by her side. She realized that her daughter was a responsible adult who could shoulder responsibilities. She just sometimes liked to play the happy child under the protective wings of her parents and older brother.**
