Sweet Mischief’s Rollercoaster Romance -
Chapter 520
Molly was kneeling on the bed, the sash of her nightgown tied carelessly. When she impulsively lunged forward, the already slightly open front of her gown gave way, revealing much more than she intended.
Chad was standing right across from her, and as he glanced down at Molly rushing toward him, he saw far more than he should have.
For a moment, Chad was too stunned to react.
Molly, realizing the impromptu peep show she had put on, quickly clutched her gown around her, her cheeks burning crimson. "Bro, close your eyes!" she exclaimed.
Embarrassed, Chad immediately turned away.
Molly felt as if she could never show her face again. Her mind was a blur, and in her panic, she forgot to properly secure her nightgown, focusing only on escaping the scene. She spun around on the bed, intending to dive under the covers for refuge.
But the bed was too soft, and the gown too long. She stumbled, stepping on the hem of the gown much like one might trip on the edge of a dress while running. Her balance faltered uncontrollably.
"Whoa, whoa, I'm falling, bro!" she cried out.
Chad, hearing her distress, swiftly moved to Molly's side, aware that a tumble could send them both crashing into the frosted glass of the bathroom door. In his haste, he wrapped his arms around Molly, still bearing the accidental exposure of her nightgown, and toppled her onto the bed.
The bed was so soft that she might have bounced back up, but with her brother's weight on her, Molly felt like she was sinking into the mattress.
Her back didn't hurt much, thanks to Chad's quick thinking to prevent her from smashing into the glass, but the pressure of his body on hers was uncomfortable.
And because Chad had been standing at the edge of the bed when he pushed her down, the height difference resulted in his face being buried in the softest part of Molly.
To make matters worse, her nightgown had come undone entirely!
If Chad had caught only a glimpse of Molly's secrets before, now he was confronted with all of them.
Chad looked up to see a scene that would make any artist blush, including the birthmark on Molly's chest... His forehead throbbed with a prominent vein, and once again, he was at a loss.
Molly could feel the awkwardness pressing against her, and with a mix of shame and anger turning her face and body beet red, she looked like she might burst a blood vessel at any second.
The cold metal of Chad's belt buckle pressed against her thigh, chilling her sensitive skin. She couldn't tell if the sensation was pain or just the cold.
Chad clenched his teeth and called out, "Molly!"
"Oh, this is mortifying, I can't even," Molly wailed, covering her face with her hands and starting to cry. She felt she could no longer face the world.
Chad took a deep breath and said, "Put your nightgown on."
"Whimper, just go downstairs first."
With eyes shut, Chad rose to his feet, pointing at Molly on the bed, "Shut up, no crying, get dressed properly!"
Molly sniffled and sat up, crying as she put on her nightgown properly this time, tying it into a knot so tight it seemed impossible to untie. Then she crawled under the covers, pulled them over her head, and curled up into a ball. Hearing the muffled sobs from beneath the blanket, Chad finally opened his eyes.
Officer Chad Byrne, usually unflappable in the face of chaos, had not only lost his cool that night but also his composure.
He never imagined that such an incident with Molly would happen, that having seen all of her wasn't enough, he even had kissed her.
For the first time, Chad didn't know how to console the startled girl hiding under the covers.
Fortunately, a phone call saved him from further embarrassment.
"Hello, Mom."
The sobbing from under the blanket ceased abruptly when Chad called out "Mom."
In the darkness under the covers, Molly blinked, eavesdropping on Chad's conversation.
"Alright, I'm coming home."
As the intermittent sobs resumed under the blanket, Chad glanced at the lump on the bed and lied, "Molly's asleep. I'll head back alone."
At the mention of her name, the crying ceased once again, replaced by attentive silence.
With a slight smirk listening to her reactions, Chad said, "Got it."
After hanging up, the sobs began anew.
Chad announced, "I've got to pop over home for a bit, Dad and Mom are calling me over."
"Mhm," was the choked reply, followed by more crying sounds.
Soon after, the hotel room door closed, and Molly peeked out from under the covers, watching the door through which the man had left. She then lay back down, feeling feverish all over. Meanwhile, at the Byrne household...
Chad entered the living room to find his parents and grandparents waiting for him, with cousin Vivian also present.
He sat down and asked, "Mom, what's so urgent that you had me come over?"
Coleen handed him Vivian's phone, saying, "Look at this and then tell me what you think."
The mood was tense, and Chad braced himself for something serious. He scrolled through the photos on Vivian's phone.
The first photo was one Molly had taken of their silhouettes the night before. The playful message underneath made him smile. Molly was clearly trying to rile up Vivian.
He scrolled further.
The second photo showed the bed that morning, deliberately disheveled to look like two people had slept there, with his pajamas carelessly thrown aside. If memory served, he had neatly folded them before leaving that morning. That Molly... Chad zoomed in on the photo to see a short strand of hair on the pillow beside her. His? But he hadn't slept there the previous night.
The third image was from when he had returned for a midday nap, dozing off for twenty minutes before waking to find Molly beside him. He had been puzzled but hadn't thought much of it. Now, the photo made it clear.
It wasn't just that he had stolen a midnight kiss from her; she had also taken advantage of him during the day.
Chad regretted missing the opportunity to catch her planting a delicate kiss on his lips, one so gentle yet undeniable. Her message was coy: Bro was sleeping so soundly, I couldn't bear to wake him.
The fourth photo was from that evening, Molly in a bathrobe after her shower, capturing half her face and, bizarrely, the shoulder of his trench coat?
Checking the time, Chad was certain he had been at the station. Who had been wearing his coat?
She sent another message to Vivian: We've had our baths, sweet dreams.
Molly was clearly using an innocent tone to disgust Vivian while simultaneously making her furious.
Chad couldn't believe it - Molly had the knack to spin three stories a day, one for each meal, all from just three random photos.
No wonder she had texted him earlier, claiming to be scared and urging him to come home before his shift ended at the precinct. At the time, he hadn't thought much of it, but now it dawned on him - if Molly had truly been frightened, she would've bolted straight to the station. She just wanted him back home to help her with her photography project.
Vivian, ever the instigator, sidled up to the Byrne family elders at the gathering and said in a conspiratorial tone, "You know, Molly cornered me the other day and she was like, 'I'm totally going to marry Chad, and you guys can't object because I'm the Cedillo heiress. Cross me, and my family will simply buy out Byrne Enterprises.""
The Byrne elders exchanged uneasy glances, clearly rattled by the thought of their homegrown empire falling into the hands of the influential Cedillo family, should they dare to upset Molly.
