Chapter 337

Larissa smiled without much care. "Isn't this the purpose of our marriage?"

Kevan pressed his lips tightly together as he looked down, concealing the raging emotions in his eyes.

They had not yet finished their dinner when Ruby called.

"Kevan, have you seen the news ... We have ..." she stammered, her voice trembling as if she had been crying, or was going to cry.

"Yeah," Kevan said, looking up to see Larissa focusing on her food. He said, "I already got someone to take down the news."

"But Cody must have seen it ..." Ruby was terrified. "I'm worried that he will come and find me...'

"He won't figure out your new residence so quickly." Kevan had already arranged for someone to help her move. "Besides, you have a bodyguard with you right now. He can't hurt you."

"But I'm still scared... Kevan ..." Ruby sobbed. "I miss you... I want to see you... Can you come over and accompany me?"

"I'm afraid not," Kevan said.

Larissa's movements in toying with her pasta paused. His answer actually surprised her.

"My mom saw that news too." Kevan's gaze swept past Larissa's expressionless face before looking away. "She came over to find me today. So... I probably won't be able to see you for some time." His voice was gentle with a hint of regret.

Ruby asked in shock and surprise, "Then what about me? Kevan, if I can't see you, I won't be able to sleep from fear!"

"My apologies." Kevan was not moved. "I can't ignore my mom."

Larissa only found out now that Kevan was such a filial son. She once thought that he was unafraid of everything, including his own parents and other elders.

Ruby was silent for two minutes before she compromised. "Alright. Then ..." She raised a solution to her conundrum. "Can I video call you every night?" Kevan agreed to it easily. "Sure."

Seeing that Larissa was watching him, he coldly looked over and added, "As long as Larissa doesn't tattle to my mom."

Larissa frantically shook her head to show her loyalty to him.

Kevan snorted coldly at her bootlicking behavior with scorn.

After dinner, Kevan video-called Ruby in the living room. Larissa did as she always had and played with Muffin nearby. He did not even bother to think of avoiding her, and blatantly "cheated" on her. Somehow, it was the "cuckolded" Larissa who felt somewhat awkward.

Ruby continued to cry to Kevan about her difficulties as well as expressing her yearning for him while Kevan continued to soothe her in gentle tones, saying some cheesy expressions of love.

Their conversation was so shallow that Larissa could not bear to hear more. If it was not for the fact that Kevan had restricted Muffin's activity space to the living room to prevent her from going elsewhere, she would have brought her back to her bedroom long ago.

Maybe Muffin got used to her new environment for she got more and more lively as well as more courageous. She used to just lie down wherever she was or curl up into a tiny ball. Now, she was bounding about the place, and even bit at Kevan's slippers and the hem of his trousers-though of course, Kevan would chase her away irritably.

This time remained the same.

She played well with Larissa until she got bored of being entertained, turning to pounce at Kevan's slippers instead. She bit and meowed happily at the same time. Hearing its cries, Ruby finally stopped crying and asked, "Kevan, you have a cat?"
