Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo -
Chapter 387
"If you get a third chance at marriage, you should try to get pregnant as soon as possible," Lana advised.
"At your age, it becomes increasingly difficult to conceive the longer you delay, and the risks are also higher." Every word she spoke carried an air of sincerity, although she was subtly adding salt to Larissa's wound. However, Larissa didn't mind it at all and played along. She nodded and gave a faint response.
As they approached the escalator, Larissa prepared to step onto it when she suddenly felt a strong jolt on her arm. Lana, seemingly lost in her thoughts, had missed a step. With that, she fell forward and pulled Larissa along with her. Larissa managed to grab onto the handrail to steady herself, while Lana ended up falling onto the escalator.
"Ah!" Lana cried out in pain, prompting her bodyguard to swiftly stop the escalator. They immediately helped her up from the ground. Tears streamed down Lana's face as she glared at Larissa in disbelief. Amidst her tears, she accused, "Larissa, why did you push me?"
Larissa's mind went blank for two seconds, and upon regaining her senses, she realized everything had been a trap set by Lana. Nevertheless, she remained composed and calmly stated, "I didn't push you." Lana's tears continued to flow unabated. "Larissa, I don't think I have ever done anything to offend you. I'm not the one who caused your current misery, so why did you treat me—"
The bodyguards swiftly intervened, shielding Lana from any further confrontation. "Madam, you should go to the hospital and let us deal with this."
"It's fine." Lana waved her hand dismissively, then turned her aggrieved gaze toward Larissa. Addressing the bodyguard, she added, "My sister didn't do it on purpose. I'll go to the hospital now. Don't tell my husband about this."
The bodyguard looked perplexed. "What if he asks—"
"Just say that I fell on my own." Lana "generously" shifted the blame onto herself.
Larissa watched as Lana departed, accompanied by her entourage of vigilant bodyguards. She suddenly lost all her appetite even though she was hungry just now. In the end, Larissa didn't eat or watch a movie. Instead, she got a taxi home.
When Larissa arrived home, she received a call from Yvette. "You ungrateful brat! Lana was kind to you and even gifted you a six-million-dollar bracelet. How could you push her onto the escalator? Larissa, what is your heart made up of, huh? I really regret giving birth to someone like you!"
Larissa ended the call and blocked her number. Yvette's call was a sign that her peaceful life was about to end. It didn't take long before Violet called her. "Lari, did you push Lana?"
Violet knew that Larissa and Lana weren't on good terms. However, she never inquired much about it. While Violet had faith in Larissa's character, she couldn't entirely rule out the possibility that Larissa had been angered by Lana, causing her to take action.
"I'm not suspecting you!" Violet was worried that Larissa would misunderstand and hurriedly took her side.
Then, she continued, "It's just that Lana's pregnancy appeared to be unstable, so Bernard and his family came to us, demanding an explanation."
