Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo -
Chapter 390
The middle-aged man sat on the shuttle bus with Larissa, and after his passionate introduction, Larissa found out his name-Gary Logan. He worked at Blue Star Shipping, an internationally renowned company. Due to work commitments, he had to travel back and forth between Caldor and Aldovia.
"Usually, my assistant would be with me; however, he had some family problems, so he couldn't come on this trip. Who would have thought such an incident would happen? Fortunately, you were there," Gary said, still visibly shaken.
Then, he asked Larissa for her business card. "I have to deal with some company affairs today. I will treat you to a meal some other day to thank you for saving my life."
Larissa smiled apologetically, "I'm here to study. I just arrived."
Gary's response was barely audible as he furrowed his brows, saying, "Isn't university registration at the end of August? Why are you here so early?"
Larissa lowered her head in embarrassment and explained, "I came over to brush up on my language skills first. I'm not good at speaking it, so I'm worried I might not keep up if I started studying immediately." Gary nodded. "Have you taken care of everything?"
Perhaps it was because she had saved his life earlier that he expressed concern about her situation. "Have you found a school and a place to stay? Is there family coming to pick you up? Do you need me to arrange a driver for you?"
Larissa politely declined his kind offer. "I have a friend here who has already helped me arrange everything."
"Okay." Gary looked disappointed. Then he retrieved a pen from his pocket and gently held Larissa's hand, writing a line of numbers on her palm.
"This is my phone number. Once you have a local phone number, remember to contact me."
Larissa closed her palm and smiled politely before nodding. "Okay."
After Gary exited the airport, two foreign men in suits welcomed him and took his suitcase. Gary then gestured to one of the men. "Help her with her luggage," he instructed, indicating Larissa. Larissa promptly declined. "No! It's fine! I can do it myself!"
As soon as the plane landed, Wendy had already shared her location with Larissa and instructed her to find her after arriving.
"I'm going to find my friend now," Larissa said, waving goodbye to Gary. Then, she opened her GPS and walked away, feeling the weight of Gary and his bodyguards' intense gazes.
Fortunately, the GPS guided Larissa smoothly, and it didn't take her long to locate Wendy's car. Wendy was leaning against the vehicle, playing with her phone. Over the past few years, Wendy had matured, exuding a more refined and ladylike demeanor.
Larissa recalled how Wendy used to sport short hair, but now her locks cascaded in long curls. In the past, Wendy would often be seen in casual T-shirts, jeans, and sneakers. But now she was wearing a dress that showed off her curves, and she had even paired it with elegant heels. Wendy, who used to have a bare face, now wore makeup. That was why Larissa didn't recognize her at first glance. Larissa called out tentatively, "Wendy?"
Immediately, Wendy looked up. When Wendy caught sight of Larissa, her face lit up with the same unchanged, radiant smile she always wore.
"Lari!" Wendy exclaimed, not minding the three-inch heels she was wearing, as she rushed over to give Larissa a big hug.
"I've missed you so much!"
Larissa almost cried but managed to hold them back, mindful of their public surroundings. Then, she said, "I've missed you so much too!"
They hugged each other for a while until they noticed the curious glances from passersby. Only then did they let each other go, albeit unwillingly. Wendy helped Larissa place her suitcase in the trunk before getting into the car.
Wendy asked, "Are you tired?"
"Yes," Larissa replied and yawned. "I didn't sleep a wink on the plane."
"Then let's go to my place and rest first. I had planned to take you to the supermarket to get some essentials." Wendy made a decision.
"It's fine. We can go and shop first. I can manage." Larissa tried her best to stay awake, although her eyelids were drooping.
