Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo -
Chapter 411
It was no wonder that the other parents in the class were so afraid of Bethany's family.
It also dawned on her why she found the voice on the phone last night so familiar.
A chubby girl with twin ponytails ran toward them and threw herself into Violet's arms.
"Grandma!" she greeted Violet sweetly.
When she smiled, her eyes twinkled like stars in the sky. At first glance, Bethany seemed to be a lively and adorable girl, without any trace of having a nasty personality that the homeroom teacher and Aster had described.
Violet smiled widely in response, making faint smile lines appear around her eyes.
She fixed an affectionate gaze on her granddaughter and patted her lovingly on the head before grabbing her hand.
The homeroom teacher called Aster over and handed her to Larissa.
Violet glanced at Aster and murmured with a hint of regret, "He looks so much like you. What a beautiful son you have."
Larissa smiled politely and spoke to Aster, "You should say thank you to Mrs. Rogers."
Aster repeated obediently, "Thank you, Mrs. Rogers!"
"You're welcome." The fine lines on Violet's face deepened as she stared at Aster with a perplexed look.
Noticing that her grandmother's attention was being diverted to someone else, the smile on Bethany's face disappeared, and a vengeful expression appeared instead.
It wasn't an expression that belonged to a five-year-old.
That resentful gaze sent shivers down Larissa's spine.
"Grandma!" She tugged on Violet's hand and pouted in a cute voice, as if the look of malice on her face just now was just a figment of Larissa's imagination.
Violet looked down at Bethany and inquired gently, "What's wrong, Bethany?"
Bethany tugged on Violet's hand, eager to leave. "I'm hungry. Let's go home quickly!"
"Wait a minute!" Larissa called out to them.
Violet turned around and asked with anticipation, "Yes?"
Larissa brought Aster to her and said, "Ma'am, there's something I need to tell you."
She raised Aster's arm and exposed the bite mark that was still visible to everyone.
"Yesterday, Bethany bit Aster on the arm. He told me it happened because he wouldn't let Bethany kiss him, so Bethany became angry and bit him."
The homeroom teacher chimed in, "That's exactly what happened. We have surveillance cameras in our classroom, and we can pull up the footage anytime to show you." Hearing this, Violet was surprised.
In her experience, Bethany had always been well-behaved, considerate, and kind-hearted.
It was impossible for her to go crazy and bite someone like a rabid dog.
However, the homeroom teacher was so certain. In addition, Larissa wouldn't intentionally deceive her.
Violet's expression became solemn as she questioned her granddaughter, "Bethany, tell me the truth. Did you bite him?"
With that, Bethany burst into tears.
The remaining students and their parents in the classroom all turned their gaze toward the scene, looking on in confusion.
"Bethany!" Violet tried to stop her from kicking up a fuss, but she cried even louder.
She sat on the ground and refused to get up, throwing a tantrum.
Larissa felt a bit embarrassed by the whole situation. She just wanted an apology from Bethany, not to hurt her, let alone make Violet lose face in front of everyone. "Bethany, stop crying," Violet crouched down and coaxed her for a long time, but she showed no signs of calming down.
Eventually, Violet lost her patience. She said sternly, "Bethany, if you keep on crying, I'm going to leave without you!"
Upon hearing this, Bethany immediately stopped crying and wiped away the tears on her face.
"I won't cry anymore," she said in a muffled voice.
Once she calmed down, Violet repeated her question, "Did you bite him?"
Bethany bit her lower lip and nodded timidly.
"I'm sorry!"
Before Larissa could speak, she apologized to Aster voluntarily, "I shouldn't have bitten you. I'm sorry!" Bethany took a step forward and grabbed Aster's hand, sniffling woefully, "Aster, we're still friends, right?"
