Sweet Subterfuge novel by Trina Duo -
Chapter 437
Seeing that her face was still one of displeasure, Aster carefully took two steps forward and held her hand. "Mommy, I'm sorry. I was wrong. Please don't be angry anymore, please?" He wiped his tears with the back of his hand, not daring to even let out a sniffle.
Coming back to herself, Larissa saw his timid look and pulled him into her arms with some amount of heartache.
"Okay," she promised him. "But you cannot lie to me again-no matter who tells you to do it. Do you understand?"
"Yes!" Aster nodded several times.
That night, Larissa dismissed Mrs. Potts, who asked nervously, "Was there something I did that you weren't satisfied with?"
Larissa smiled and said, "No. It's that Aster is fully recovered, and you no longer need to take care of him anymore. I was happy to have you on board. The remainder of your salary will be transferred to your account tomorrow. If I still need you in the future, I will surely contact you again."
She knew very well that Mrs. Potts was working under Dylan's instructions. She also knew that Dylan had no ill intentions toward Aster, but because she was unsure of his true intentions, she would always feel uneasy.
So, she had to eliminate all factors that were unsafe, and carefully keep Aster protected under her wing.
On the other hand, Mrs. Potts called Dylan the moment she was dismissed by Larissa.
"What should we do now, Mr. Shields?"
Dylan was a bit annoyed at the fact that this all got exposed so quickly. But since this was not Mrs. Potts' fault, he could not blame her for it.
"Just go with the flow, I guess," he said, "You can just come over and make dinner as usual."
After hanging up, he turned to Kevan, who was sitting nearby, helplessly. "Well, you heard that. What do you plan to do next?"
Kevan was still calm. His expression did not change because of this new development.
"Let's focus on dealing with Cody first then," he said.
Larissa and Aster ... He should give them some time.
"Speaking of Cody..." Dylan pushed his glasses up with a grin, his eyes glinting with a cold light. "He seems to be demanding a divorce from Lana."
"Six years. Well, that's long enough." Kevan smiled a little. "Cody's patience this time has exceeded my expectations."
Cody only married Lana so that he could use her, but she lost all value the moment Larissa left the country. Kevan thought that Cody would dump her the moment he had the chance, but he did not think that he would hold on for six years. Although it was as if Cody was never married at all during this time as he kept dancing between different women, repeatedly cheating on Lana.
It was not easy for Lana to have held on for so long before she started causing trouble too.
"What are the Seymours saying?" Kevan asked.
"They don't agree, of course." Dylan's smile was full of glee. "Yvette went over to your Uncle Bernard's and caused trouble several times. The last time she did that, she was chased out by the household staff. Xavier had also gone to have a chat with Bernard, but I don't know the outcome of that. However, Cody thinks that Lana is the one responsible for leaking those pictures of him and Yvonne, so he's dead set on divorcing her. No one can persuade him to change his mind."
"That's for the best." Kevan's eyes narrowed. Cody's pictures with Yvonne were taken by someone he had sent, with instructions to have said pictures sent to various media outlets along with a written
statement.
No one was stupid enough to hold back on delivering such big news.
Because the pictures and statements were exactly the same everywhere else, anyone could figure out that someone was trying to stir things up behind the scenes. And Cody naturally thought that Lana was the one responsible—after all, she had just tried to catch him cheating a few days ago.
Kevan's goal was to destroy the Seymour family via Cody's hand. He was not going to spare any of the people who had hurt Larissa.
