Chapter 526
Having played with Aster for the whole day, Kevan only took out his personal phone that he'd kept muted after he got home. There were several missed calls displayed on the screen, all from his parents.
A sudden sense of irritation washed over him, and he took a deep breath and recomposed himself before calling back.
Violet answered quickly and asked, "Kevan, what were you doing today? Why didn't you answer any of our calls, and why weren't you at the company or at home?"
Kevan lied smoothly. "I went to see a client."
Violet released an "Oh," in response.
Kevan asked her, "Was there something you needed from me?"
The distant tone in his voice caused Violet's heart to ache. "They arranged to meet a lawyer, Mr. Evans, today to discuss the distribution of your grandpa's assets ..." She paused, sighing softly. "Your grandpa never made a will when he was alive, so they're fighting pretty bad over it... It doesn't look good."
Kevan was not in the least bit surprised. As a matter of fact, he could even imagine the chaos that had occurred then.
"Anyway, they never came to a conclusion." Violet sounded a tad helpless. "Kevan, dear-" She suddenly changed tack, making Kevan pay attention to her.
"Your dad and I are old now, so we don't have the energy to fight with them over this. Besides, the annual dividends from the company are more than enough for us to continue living our luxurious life. So, we want to give up on inheriting anything to get some peace and quiet. However, we need your consent for this. After all, you have a share of the inheritance too."
"It's fine if you don't want it." Kevan was very detached.
The entirety of Soaring Corporation was nothing to him, let alone one-third of it.
"I just have a request." He tightened his grip on his phone. "The mansion Grandpa lived in, I want it."
Although Roland's mansion was worth tens of millions of dollars, it was not quite so attractive when compared to the shares of Soaring Corporation. That mansion was a place Roland had lived in his whole life, and it was the only place that had all the wonderful memories of him. Kevan was not willing to let his relatives ruin it.
"We'll still have to have a meeting to discuss things tomorrow. I'll let them know by then," Violet said. "Speaking of which, why do you want the mansion?" She could not figure out what he was thinking. "Didn't you say that I grew up there? Maybe after living there for some time, I'll be able to recall some things from my childhood." Kevan made this up on the spot.
Violet suspected nothing, however. "I'll definitely help you to fight for it." She seemed to have made a huge commitment to see this through.
After hanging up, Kevan remained seated on the sofa, unwilling to get up even after a long while. The house was too spacious. The silence was a little frightening without Larissa and Aster. Although it was not the first time he had felt lonely, the difference in his current situation in comparison to the last two nights made him feel at a loss for the first time when confronted with this emptiness. Sadness began to well in him.
He looked at the picture he took with Aster, touching the radiantly smiling face on the screen, and the emptiness in his heart seemed to have expanded.
He... was close to not being able to hold on anymore.
He did not want to live alone anymore.
Kevan's finger swiped hard across the screen, a dark look in his eyes. He had to... hasten his progress.
The next day, Kevan received a call from Violet before noon.
