"Do you want to have someone prepare the money?" Dylan asked.

"Of course." Kevan did not hesitate on this issue.

Dylan immediately got up to make a call on the balcony.

"Are you feeling better now?" Kevan asked Larissa.

He just asked this without any preamble, and Larissa took some time to gather herself before retorting, "Feeling better about what?"

"I will not ignore Bethany." Kevan had a faint smile on his lips. When he spoke, he kept his fathomless gaze on Larissa the whole time, the warmth and scorch from it causing her to be ill at ease once more. Pressing a hand against her pounding heart, Larissa looked down slowly. "I've always been okay." Her voice was lighter than the night's breeze.

"So..." Kevan's gaze moved away from her face and down to her plate. "Can you eat properly now?"

Larissa was stunned. He seemed to have some sort of obsession-or was it some sort of compulsive disorder? Regardless, if he did not force her to finish her food, he would not be happy. At this point, she did not want to create more trouble for him, and could only force herself to take in a few more spoonfuls of food.

The furrow in Kevan's brow finally began to loosen up slowly.

Larissa still had work to do, so she did not stay in Dylan's room for long. After she left, Kevan's face visibly darkened. He called Jack in person and said, "No need to track that number. The person who kidnapped Bethany is Ron Jules."

He had long looked into everything related to Ron and lan, and he had listened to the recorded audio of their meeting several times too. The moment the kidnapper spoke, he could immediately tell that it was Ron's voice.

But he could not let Larissa know that. Because Xavier was the person behind Ron, he was worried that she would feel guilty.

Dylan's eyes narrowed. "The guy who pretended to be Larissa's friend to pick Aster up? That Ron Jules?"

Kevan nodded lightly.

"So... Xavier sent someone to kidnap Aster to extort money from you, and not Larissa?" Dylan came to this conclusion pretty fast once he had linked both incidents together-which could explain all of the unjustified things from before.

Kevan had figured that one out too, but what he could not understand was, "How did he know that he could extort me by kidnapping Aster?"

The only ones who knew that Aster was his son were himself, Dylan, and his researcher friend who helped him with the DNA test. None of them would have leaked this information to anyone else.

Dylan rolled his eyes at him. "Well, it's your fault that you were too high profile previously. Sending Aster to school, and even attending some Fun Family Sports Day. So many people saw you with him, did you think this wouldn't get out?"

Before today, Kevan had not been worried at all.

Even though many people had heard Aster calling him daddy, anyone who cared enough to check would not think that Aster was related to him at all. For no other reason than the fact that Aster's name was Alastair Simmons, and Wendy's name was written in all certifying materials as his biological mother.

And this was something that had led him astray once.

However, it was clear that Xavier did not look as deeply into things as he did. He probably only heard from someone that he and Larissa had a son, and did not bother to verify if this was the truth, frantically trying to threaten him with this-coincidentally hitting the jackpot while doing so.

Now that Kevan actually thought about it, he was actually a little scared. If the one who got kidnapped was Aster, he would never be as calm as he was now. In fact, someone may have died.
