Chapter 573
Because of this, the official Facebook pages of the Bartham City Police Bureau and Bartham City Court were constantly tagged in the comments.
Everyone was demanding an explanation and insisting that they shouldn't let Lana go so easily just because she was mentally ill.
Under pressure from public opinion, the Bartham City Court released a statement expressing their intent to handle the case according to the law and asked everyone to remain calm.
"Mr. Cunningham called and told me that the judge is considering sending Lana to the Bartham Mental Asylum," Lewis said.
The Bartham Mental Asylum was the biggest psychiatric hospital in Bartham and one of the more strictly managed institutions. Many patients with severe mental illnesses were forcibly sent there for treatment and isolated from the outside world. Of course, opinions from the patients' family members would be taken into consideration as well.
"The current situation right now is that the court has to take urgent measures against Lana as pressure from the public is mounting. However, Lana's lawyer is difficult to deal with. If we send Lana to the mental asylum by force, the other party would just keep submitting appeals to bring her out again. This case would never be resolved. And there's also one more thing... Yvette contacted Mr. Cunningham. She is trying to use her identity as Larissa's biological mother to represent her and settle the suit with Lana," Lewis explained with a troubled expression on his face.
Gary felt his chest tighten with anger. He cursed, "Yvette, that wicked woman!"
Although he already knew that Larissa suffered inhumane treatment from the Seymour family, witnessing Yvette's cruelty toward her made his heart ache terribly, as if he was stabbed repeatedly by a knife. "Tell Mr. Cunningham that we will never settle! If Lana isn't going to prison, she must be locked up in the mental asylum!" Gary declared firmly, his voice as cold as ice.
"Alright." Lewis nodded with understanding.
"How is Cosmic Entertainment doing recently?" Gary continued.
He used to pay more attention to Xavier and the company, but when Cosmic Entertainment was on the verge of bankruptcy with no hope of recovery, Gary didn't want to waste time and energy in dealing with Xavier.
Now that both Yvette and Lana had caused so much trouble for Larissa, Gary lost patience with the miserable Seymour family and decided to put a stop to their desperate struggles by wiping them out at once. "The company's not doing well. Banks are refusing to loan any money to Xavier, so he is looking for investments everywhere, but..." Lewis replied honestly and pursed his lips, the silence implying the words that were not said.
"Go and have a chat with him. We will invest fifty million dollars in Cosmic Entertainment," Gary instructed.
"What?" Lewis thought that he must have misheard Gary.
Gary didn't explain further, "Just do as I said."
In the end, Lewis didn't find Xavier personally. Since Yvette had seen him before and knew of his relationship with Gary, Lewis was worried that their plan would be exposed.
He made a call overseas and had a friend fly over from Aldovia to put on an act for him. His friend's name was Frank Moore, a senior executive of a large film production company in Tinseltown. Frank and Lewis were roommates in college and were fast friends ever since.
Therefore, when Lewis approached him to carry out the plan, Frank agreed to his request without hesitation.
To make the performance more realistic, Frank even found an intermediary who had business dealings with his company and Cosmic Entertainment to set up a meeting with Xavier.
Xavier's financial state was in dire straits. Upon hearing that someone was interested in investing in his company, he didn't even bother with a background check and immediately agreed to meet in person.
